I can't believe what a rigmarole moving house is in this country!

I'm sure it's much easier in the US...

It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Well, bottom line is it'll be sorted in a few days if the stories are true.

As for you being in your own house, in all honesty if I were buying a £1million house I'd have booked into a cheap/local B&B for the weekend for a bit of comfort, yet still able to tend to the cats.

Don't worry about who will sue who - it'll all end up in the lap of the people who farqed up.

Just chill, it happens quite a bit.

Oh - and next time, I'd suggest in insisting on a Wednesday completion as that gives you two long/clear business days right after if there's ever a problem again. I did that where I am now and I had 2 weeks left at the place I was renting.... belt and braces.

It'll all be OK by this time tomorrow.
  • I promise I will keep you posted, I hope you are right, thanks for your comments.

Gosh OP this sounds horrific, I'm so sorry for you!

Glad you're feeling better about it today. I totally understand the weeping in the agents office, I would have done the same. The whole process is so stressful at the best of times without something going so seriously wrong.

Can't believe people have this attitude that if you are selling/buying at a certain level you clearly have bundles of cash lying about that can sort something like this out and solve the problem. Having just sold and bought at similar levels to you, we put every single penny into the purchase, virtually shirts off our backs, and there's no way on earth we could have just paid the extra 17k and get on with it.

Best wishes for tomorrow, fingers crossed.
  • We are pretty much all in with the move, you aim to put as much in as you can to keep the mortgage numbers sensible. It's a natural thing to do at whatever level you buy at.

If the messers were intending to get a last minute price reduction, they would have done it before exchange not now. Pulling this stunt now will mean they will incur the costs of the delay of everyone in the chain, so they can't have acted deliberately.

I remember going to empty my change bottle. My last remaining source of any funds as i signed for the mortgage. £700, as you said, all in.
  • This unfortunately goes from bad to worse, the buyer at the bottom has not bothered to contact his solicitor as arranged so there is no update at all. I directly called his firm of Solicitors this morning and explained we had removals outside again. He said "not my problem" and I don't act for you so can't discuss it with you. My Solicitor has been ringing him all morning, and we found out he is an"extremely high profile public figure" for an international aid agency of all things !!!!!!.

After pulling teeth with the firm at the bottom it seems they were waiting on a cheque from a pension fund withdrawal for 17K that has not showed up to use towards the house purchase. The Solicitor at the bottom has only spent his time seeing if the failed mortgage monies need to go back rather than finding out if the guy can get the 17K some other way.

Surely the Solicitor at the bottom should have made sure he had the means to complete on his purchase before exchange of contracts?.

I ran up another £1300 in removal costs today and now our possessions are going into storage. It's like living in some kind of sick dream, it's stressful enough moving without all of this happening to you.. It's not just us but the whole chain other than the freaks at the bottom who are suffering.

Even now if they get the money, the problem is there needs to be an undertaking in place for the costs apparently that he will need to sign so goodness knows where we all go from here!!!!.. It's a right nightmare.

I know everyone says, you all sue each other and it ends up in his lap but now we have all the litigation stress as well. My Doctor has put me on pills as im now so emotional and depressed.
