Hi Hippy I see that you have just beaten me to be the first in xmas day to wish sobriety, peace and goodwill to all. I am in Portugal and I am just in from my daughter's inlaws after a typical Portuguese Xmas eve dinner. It was good to be able to take part in a different culture. I used to think that any body who didn't drink was from a different planet, if not, should have been. My new grandson was there experiencing his first Xmas. On his Portuguese side there were 4 generations. At one point I could not help but think that if I had carried on drinking he would not be here, neither would my daughter or my other 3 children. Some people call these things fringe benefits, but to me this is what living is about. I hope I still have a lot of life left because I love being here. Thanks to all on here who have helped me keep my sanity for another year

Wishing everyone happy sobriety, my thoughts are with you today, it has to be a difficult day.

Alcoholism has been put in sharp focus at our house today, my father-in-law phoned to wish us Happy Christmas, he got the answer phone, thank goodness. He has been drinking for many years, and although not violent, we see the effect on his children; my husband and brother and sister in law.

As far as I know he is still drinking. He didn't have our number, I assume my mother-in-law gave it to him. We have lived here for over a year and he didn't know. I don't know what to do really. I don't know what he wants. If he is trying to get sober, though, I will do every single thing in my power to help him.

Anyway, thats my issue, but I wanted to know that I am wishing you well, and hoping that you all continue to fight the fight today.

    All the best,

    Gale

Hi shaz, my parents are in hong kong along with my sister today, it's one of the things they have been able to do since i recovered. they dont have to worry about me anymore and my mum feels safe that i have a support network around me. yeah i would liked to have spent xmas with them however ive spoken to them on the phone and they are fine. i'm just glad that they are able to live their life to the full now without worrying about me all the time. i'll see dad in jan and im not sure when ill see mum but i will make it this year. i will have earnt enought this week to be able to do that :)

all in all i have a lot of gratatudie today, i listened to the queen for the first time i remember and didnt mock her i thought what she said was lovely. im gratfull that i have not been controlled by the obsession to drink or use today and that the fatefull malady has been lifted. im also gratefull to be able to be of use to others on this day and not be self obsessed. all of which i never thought possible. but it is. i'm prove of that :)

Hi friends, good to see so many encouraging posts today, which shows this place is truly a refuge for all of us who are fighting the good fight.

Had a very quiet and peaceful day today, just me, OH and sister-in-law for lunch. S-i-l had a glass of sparkling wine, OH and I had bitter lemon, although now we are back home he is having a cider or two. We got given cider and wine for gifts, and he did say it is a shame that I won't be able to appreciate them, in a sort of "I won't mock you if you do" way, but I assured him he was welcome to have them all himself. As well as that we got chocolate, and I don't eat that either  , so a bit of a lean time here, but I'm not complaining.

I will be glad when things get back to normal, from tomorrow onwards hopefully. Can't stand Christmas and all the pointless rituals. There, I've said it now :o.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Lol, just telly, re-heated leftovers and bed I think! Was up until midnight last night so a bit sleepy now, as we usually go to bed at around 10.00.

When I was drinking it was often nearer 9.00, as I got drowsy soon after tea. So that's another advantage - an extra hour a day to spend doing whatever I like! :D
