Like i say, agree to disagree. I accept that the police may want to make an example of him and frankly i dont have an issue with that, he has already broken the law driving the car to the pub in the first place, whether he now drives it back home again or not.
I think you have made a teensy weensy mistake there. At the moment, it is still legal to drive a car both to and from a pub, provided you are sober.

Im sorry that you are going through this it must feel like a bit of a slap in the face after all the support you have given over these months!

When its at the point where you have to leave your home due to his drinking (however infrequent) its time to re-evaluate things honey.
Good luck with this and hope you get a good nights sleep tonight.

Another problem is that he has got the car with him!!!!!!!!!

He was in court yesterday answering a charge for driving without a licence!

The local Travelodge is full so I just ringing around trying to find somewhere that will take the dog!

erm, he doesnt have a license? now can we stop going off on a tangent?

It was illigal to drive it to the pub because of his court appearance the day before

Op's other half has been done for not having a license yesterday . . . . most definitely driving illegally . .

Fair point. Although AIUI, it was just to hear charges. I still have a massive problem with him driving home and a tiny problem with him driving to. And a massive problem with family dobbing him in if he could be prevented.

thats why i hesitated to advise OP to dob him in to police! it sounds to me as if the court case literally drove him to drink! I am NOT defending him by the way- but I do understand why he has turned to alcohol again. another driving charge isnt going to help him - but at the same time - he cannot be allowed to drive illegally! if Op could locate the pub he is in - if he is drinking and they have reason to believe he is driving they should be the ones to phone police! or take his keys away from him!
If he has an accident and kills or injures himself or anyone else - would OP ever forgive herself if she didnt do anything to prevent it??? i know i wouldnt - so would reluctantly if pubs didnt do anything tell police.
also - I dont know about other parts of the country - but the weather is absolutely foul tonight!!! its bad enough to cause accidents to even the most sober driver - someone who has been drinking would be even more at risk!!

He could have got a licence anytime between the alleged offence and today. Also, the case may not be proven. I have to say, I am wondering whether you have had issues with an alcoholic partner, with the vehemence of your comments.

OP is obviously trying to salvage a relationship with someone who is very obviously damaged goods. Whether or not that is wise for her is not for us to judge, although we should be free to express an opinion. What I disagree with you on is that your advice seems to be intent on damaging the OP's OH and making her implicit in spiking him with the police. Obviously, if the OP does spike her OH, it is going to add more hurt and damage to the relationship and the OP is going to hurt herself at least as much as she hurts her OH. The OP needs to think through whether she wants to continue the relationship and come to a conclusion before she spikes her OH. Fairly obviously, tonight is not the night to do that.

Tandraig's post is very helpful here

Far2812, I'm sorry for the situation you are in. I hope everything works out. I second the suggestion of Al-Anon, it is a fantastic group and can offer invaluable help and support. I'm a recovering alcoholic with almost three years sobriety and I hope both you and OH get through this spell, together or alone. Make sure you look after yourself.
