Anything less than "whiter than white" now could be used back against you if this does end up in a court case.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0 -
Thought so.
Also 5 days is alot. Were students, all our money goes on food, and to stock up and have longer lasting food we buy freezer food and tinned food. 90% of which has to be cooked in an oven, and we had no gas to cook with. We ended up having beans on toast, we ran out of bread and had just beans. The girls that live here ate nothing, and no-one bathed apart from us because we spent 2 hours a day filling the kettle. Also caused alot of stress and tension.
Id say thats more then enough for a small settlement for making our hardship even worse. The fact that he knew 5 days before and did nothing about it.
When corgi came out they did the job the next day because it was urgent.0 -
Five days really isn't that long, it can take that long to get a plumber in - check out the boards here & people have lasted months in winter.
Your student union may have a bath/shower - mine did.
Buy a tesco microwave for £25 - fish is pretty good microwaved, all vegetables are fine, chicken turns out ok, stay off red meats though. Got a garden? Have a BBQ a couple of times a week & have cold sausages/burgers the following day.
It was urgent to Corgi because they don't want you using a dodgy boiler, not because you don't have hot water.
Pay your rent (through gritted teeth), when this is all fixed, you can decide
how much it was worth, but don't give the landlord any ammunition to use against you."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -
Fish in microwave? Never tryed it. We have a microwave already, but food out the micro tastes awful :P Apart from tinned food, noodles taste nice in the microwave aswell.
I like the way you put: "Pay the rent in full (with gritted teeth)", i dont think i have any teeth left the amount of times i've done that.0 -

Don't forget once you get this sorted you're going to sting him for three times the deposit for not protecting it - that should cheer up your struggling student compatriots."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.

This is probably the last update i will post becuase the work has now been completed.
The job was done, but the landlord refused to pay. The corgi guy has kept the front door keys and is coming back monday to take the boiler and radiators if the landlord don't pay up. The landlord gave him his card details and the corgi guy had them processed 2 minutes later and the card came back as not recognized, so he'd gave him false details.
Corgi have also condemend the cooker, as its about 10 years old, so he needs to buy a new one of them. And we have just found out today he owes £1500 to the baliffs because he didnt pay the electric or gas bill.
So all in all he has a hefty charge to pay, i dont think he has the funds either, if he did he would have paid the corgi guy up front.
Hes going to come more out of pocket if he dont pay up because we will have no boiler, or gas/electric.0 -
JJ-07 you do have options:
1. Refuse to let the corgi guy back onto the premises to disconnect the boiler and give him the LL name and address. So he can be threatened with legal action by the corgi guy.
2. At the same time go to a law centre* and get them to write your LL stating that your next rent payments will go to the corgi guy so he won't disconnect the boiler. (You may have to go back to sort out the problems with the cooker etc. so basically your landlord won't end up with any rent from you until you can use the house.)
You are not responsible for the gas or electricity bills not in your name, however I would advise you to co-operate with any bailiffs or debt collectors ensuring you give them every possible way of contacting your landlord in person.
*Make sure it is a Law Centre not citizen's advice, shelter or your student union. Law Centres have legal advisors with proper legal qualifications i.e. lawyers who volunteer to help people in their spare time so can write very forceful letters. http://www.lawcentres.org.uk/lawcentres/detail/find/I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Please keep updating us.
I think perhaps it's time you found yourselves a new place to live & new landlord.
Others will, I'm sure, know the legalities, but I would guess that without boiler, rads, gas, electric or a cooker (not to mention the landlord's total stupidity & attempts to kill you all) you could get out of the remainder of your 12 month contract easily.0 -
Yeah, can I echo sooz's request that you keep us up to date with further developments, even though it's not directly about the boiler, it's all informative & allows us MSE tenancy geeks to form a better idea about what advice to give people in the future. You're doing a good job, but I'd start looking for a new place to live soon."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.

Do you have an existing gas safety certificate? I believe one should be fairly prominently displayed - it's no good the LL just saying he's got one. If you are in any doubt contact your local council.0
