Same here I'm not high up just a bog standard member of a few of the committees but the paperwork takes up so much room. As you say other people will have records. I'm tempted to see if I can take mine into school to be shredded there as my shedder seems to need a 40 min rest every 5 mins!SPC~12 ot 124

Good morning people.
Today is the first in three weeks that i expect to have time to continue my work.
The box of petrol issued glasses that has been in the porch for weeks has now been 'found' by DH. I knew he would not want them to go. He said we are using a hotch potch of glasses. Come on! When did we ever use the liquer and sherry glasses? It makes more sense to send them all on their way together in case someone does want them. We have several new sets of wine glasses and tumblers that we can use when needed, and I won't be devastated when the current in use ones get broken.
DS took a trip to the local charity shops last week so I asked him to find the one which would most likely accept the glasses and other cut glass and crystal vases, bowls and glasses, s hopefuly he can help me get them there today.
He got a great bargain while he was there. A pair of Loakes brogues, brand new and retailing at about 150GBP (can't find the sign), for 20GBP.
Well, I must continue if I am to make any progress today.
Best wishes to those giving up difficult habits. I did not realise i was addicted to caffeine until after many years of getting really bad headaches when spending a weekend with MIL and having to spend a day in bed, I found out about caffeine addiction and then realised that drinking only weak tea was not a substitute for 5 cups of coffee a day. I am sure she and my super efficient SIL just thought I was lazy.
After explaining to them that it was the lack of coffee that caused it they kindly bought some for me so I would not have to take my own. Unfortunately the problem still occurred on the next visit. I could not understand it until I made the drinks and discovered the word 'decaffeinated' on the jar!0 -
Pollywollydoodle, you do know minutes of meetings can be called as evidence in court and directors / committee members have a joint duty to ensure these are maintained. i'd check that someone has a master copy before shreddingMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Im sure the Clerk of whatever committee keeps copies of the minutes. Also all school minutes here get sent to the Local council as well. The local library also has copies of Community Council minutes and agendas as well as on being posted on the website. Always worth checking though but I am sure most committe members would not need to keep their own copy.0

I know at our meetings the chair of the committee signs a copy as a true and accurate record and it is put in the school records, the reason I'm thinking of shredding/returning mine is the school have now created an electronic file of them that all committee members can access and we can now use tablets or iPad at meeting to look at them to save having so many 'tree' copies about.
But thank you for pointing it out as there does indeed need to be a master copy kept for a certain number of years.SPC~12 ot 124

Thanks for the above, I know they could be called on as evidence and I know there's a potential liability as a trustee, however I'm struggling to think of a situation where I'd have to produce them. I'm pretty sure our Secretary has copies. What I might do however is scan them before shredding just to be on the safe side. Most of it is very mundane stuff about parking for the event we organise etc.
I'm more annoyed that I have ended up holding a kind of historical archive of some items, don't feel I can throw it out. I need to select the fellow Trustee least likely to have read MK, and persuade them to take it over!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Not a lot of Kondoing due to being shattered after work but I have got some komono and clothes ready to donate tomorrow. Also Kondoed purse as I had a puncture that couldn't be fixed and another tyre getting to the nearly bald stage. Horrible credit card bill now when I had it down to a few pounds. PLUS the RAC sneakily got my annual fee, again through the card. I'm so annoyed at not having cancelled the Direct Debit as I can't get a refund on a year's paid up front. Never mind - the sun's shining and it's the weekend ... ...Looking ahead0

Erm ... ... does it count at kondoing if you genuinely accidentally break something and have to throw it out? We got a lovely new cage and stand for the canaries to replace the old, slightly grubby one they started out in. OH said - let's keep the old one so they can be separated if they fight. Fair enough - they were little scrappers. But they haven't been fighting for ages and the old one was taking up livingroom floor space that was a pain in the behind. So I was cleaning the old one and thought - ooh, it's sunny - I'll put it outside to dry and kill any germs. Then the base fell off and cracked and a piece fell off. Genuine accident. Do I regret it? Will I be nagged to death? Yes. But it's still worth it. One less thing to walk round and one less thing to clean!Looking ahead0

Going great guns, fellow kondo-ites. Well done each and every one of us.
Now, I arrived at the parental homestead late on Thurs evening for a long weekend (well, it'll probably seem a long weekend from their pov). We were up bright and early this morning, went to the supermarket then settled down to sorting out the linens. The new boiler means that the airing cupboard is no longer an airing cupboard, so what lived in there was homeless and in a huge bag (think 2 x bin bag size) on the bedroom floor. The narrow cupboard beside the chimney breast was insufficient to hold more textiles and the 4 big drawers in the divan bedbase we're full of gawknows what.
With Mum perched on a stool and supervising and making the decisions, I went through every item in the big bag, and had all the drawers out. Items were sorted into ragging/ and donation piles. Plus keepers. We had some laughs, inc finding a bedspread from my Grandma's place. She died in 1970 and I've never seen this item in my life! And my plimsoll bag from primary school, a pair of cot sheets (baby is 48 btw) and sundry other things.
A huge amount of stuff is bagged and ready to exit, some of it tomorrow on our way back from a family visit. After mucho procrastination on his part, my Dad spontaneously decided to complete the gift aid form I got for him months ago, and the first lot of gift-aided donations have left.
All the bedlinens for a three-bed household are now in 3 drawers of the divan and the 4th drawer is almost empty. Two bedspreads are being brought into service to replace two v.tatty ones which will be washed then ragged. An under-sheet will also exit when the bed is changed tomorrow.
I have no idea how many kilos of textiles I have woman-handled today (we also did two wash loads) but the pile of tightly-packed bags is waist-high. Feeling incredibly pleased at The Great Leap Forward at the hoarding house. I persuaded Dad to register for gift aid at a cancer charity, Mum being a cancer survivor, and we're all feeling good about it.
Funniest find was a small book of bible stories whose dedication revealed that it was given to my Dad for attending Sunday School back in the 1940s. It's been moved through 6 different addresses and was under the bed about 2 ft away from where he lays his head each night, he'd no ideal it was there.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just to let you know, fellow Konverts, that I have not fallen off the wagon! Rather, I have climbed on, more firmly...
After a couple of false starts this year, at the weekend, I kondoed my 50+ year addiction cigarettes! :j
I have kicked the habit several times in the past, from a few days, to several years. Now, I see cigarettes as a no longer required crutch.
Just one problem... writing/typing apparently demands a steady input of nicotine. So, for the the next few days or so, I shall be reading all the inspirational posts here, but may have to avoiding respondiing!
Well done on giving up the fags :TSmiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
