I received a "fashion" necklace yesterday- big chunky thing with fake gold - oh dear - I said "I won't wear it right now if you don't mind, it's hot today " lol I feel guilty but I will never wear it. It may become my first step to the KM journey!

    Many Happies Goodintentions x
DS1. DH & I helped out yesterday at the club BBQ for new members. They were cooking & I was in the galley with the other ladies helping to prep food & found the cutting knives were in short supply so just kondo'd my knife drawer with all the small knives & carving knives I don't use - result! I wanted to get rid of them but didn't know where/how so I'm pleased that a solution has presented itself. Have a good day Konverts

    Good morning :D
I am still catching up on the thread and have reached the discussion about people buying gifts with certain things on because they know you like them (chickens and cats were specifically mentioned). This is quite timely as today is my birthday! I don't really like my birthday - not because I hate getting older (not keen, but it doesn't bother me IYKWIM). It has dawned on me that I don't like getting presents! I appreciate the gesture, but I am often a little disappointed. That sounds really harsh, but I know you will all understand! I may have a particular item in mind, for example, I asked (we do lists in my family - supposed to make it easier, but find I am asking for 'stuff' because I am being hassled for a list!) for a lilac bush for the garden - you know, good old-fashioned sweet smelling lilac, like we had in my childhood garden. My MIL managed to find different type of lilac! I now have that in my front garden, and it irritates me every time I see it!! I sound really ungrateful here, but in am being honest, as I can't be in RL :(
I have been telling everyone for the last couple of months that I am trying to get rid of 'stuff', etc, so it will be interesting to see what today brings!
In the mean time, I am relaxing in bed and catching up with this thread :) Have a good day everyone!

I am the same.I hate my birthday again not for getting older but the chicken trays chicken mugs chicken t towels.cheap nasty gift sets (sorry but its true) I hate having to sound excited oooo ahhhh its lovely type of thing :( My Birthday is near Christmas and find myself acting out this farce twice in a week :eek:I also find it brings me down as I feel guilty that friends have spent hard earned cash on this junk:(

Every year I say please dont get me anything I dont need it keep your money please.

I think this year maybe different as since I started mk I have upset a few 'friends' by telling it how it is. :rotfl:

Funny just on Friday the lady who buys eggs off me came for some and I said we are looking for raffle prizes for the fete if you have anything. She said great I have 7  bayliss and harding gift sets you can have :) As I hate it and always tell friends I hate it but they still buy it :D Then she said I also have loads of stuff with cats on if you need that :rotfl::rotfl:

So looks like we have the same problem so if we konverts dont do rubbish presents anymore maybe will change the world and rid it of carp gifts :j

An inspiring thread. Reminds me of William Morris 'If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.' we have the builders in at the mo so definitely a good time to start. Hmmm wonder if I can get through the whole house by xmas

Me too mavymoo. My birthday is a couple of weeks before xmas and I get lots of themed stuff too. I am going to start an amazon wishlist of the chicken things I wouldn't mind getting like a spiral holder and I saw some solar wire chicken lights that are tacky but would light up the driveway a bit. Apart from that - no themed tat for me this year hopefully.

We Kondo'd eldest DD into her new Student house over the past 2 days, she'd packed and chucked lots but as she was unpacking in her new room it soon became apparent that she had even more stuff to get rid of and she did!

Her room here now looks very empty (great as it's about to be decorated and turned into DD2s new room).....that won't start just yet though as DD1 decided that even though all her stuff is in the new place, she'll just stay here a few more days ;)

Half a black sack to the textile recycling and 4 bags for life filled for the CS this week - it's all left the house but I'm eyeing up more.

If anyone asks what I would like for a gift (if nothing is not an acceptable answer, that is :() I ask for things that get used up, rather than 'stuff'. I mean things like wine (specific types), foody things, flowers or an indoor plant, or alternatively, something that I need replaced (new slippers for Christmas last year). I am very lucky, I have everything I want, and don't need more.

One of my daughters came up with an idea a couple of Christmases ago, that we do as a family a 'secret santa' whereby all the adults'names are put in a dish and we each draw one out, buying a present for just that person. Children continue to get presents from everyone as before :) The others seized on this immediately, but I was a bit uncomfortable with it at first, because it felt strange not to buy all of my children a present. However, they all insisted, and so that is what we do :) I make up for it by giving them nice Birthday presents (which might be money towards something big that they need / want).

This seems to avoid the random gift sets / clutter type presents that I used to get, as it is fine to drop hints as to what you want (new slippers last year, in my case :)) and for my grown up children it saves them the time, hassle and expense of buying for everyone.

Not for everyone perhaps, but an idea that MIGHT work for other families?

Happy birthday GoodIntentions! Hope you have a lovely day! :bdaycake:

I'm another person with a December birthday and I wish that people would just keep their money as I don't really need another gift set. I don't drink alcohol or eat much chocolate so people struggle to buy presents for me. If I do get any chocolate then my parents end up eating it! :D

Admittedly I do give chocolate or sweets as presents to other people - they can always regift it if they don't want to eat it! :D
