My Home is a MESS! - part 2

  • Hi Messies!

BabyAngel, I hope you`re feeling better. My method of doing a paper cull is to find something to listen to on i-player, usually a play or serial R4 or 4Extra, and slog through the paper mountain painlessly - I find a lot of old bills etc don`t need completely shredding, just rip the top bits off that have personal details.

Well, I managed to get away from the ward on time on Friday (rare event!) and made a start in the house...so much for being up to date with laundry as I`d thought, DS had been sorting through his stuff for a clean pair of jeans and dumped a load of jeans & t-shirts on the sofa.
I`ve done several WM loads, including changing DS`s and DGD`s bedding, as DGD is here this weekend and pit her own clean stuff on, which helps.
I`ve done a bit more freezer tetris, and got a nice clear patch in downstairs freezer. Lots more to go, using up what I can, but I`ve made a batch of dog-dinners and a `mystery curry`, and also fitted in a bit of shopping, making a serious `to do` list, and a trash trawl for bins day tomorrow.
AND did an hour with OH this morning on the RSPB Garden Birdwatch. (We saw a sparrow hawk in our apple tree, sat there for a couple of minutes in plain sight, only seen them swooping and leaving before - I`m still thinking `wow!` but all the other birds just disappeared for a few minutes till he`d gone, then the garden was heaving with various tits and sparrows again.)
I still haven`t got round to washing LR rugs and floor cleaning yet though. DGD is here and my little dog gets very playful when she`s around, shaking her dog toys around and chasing her in and out of the hall. It`s not that I`m procrastinating, I just don`t want to spoil the fun. Honestly.
So far, I don`t feel I`ve `wasted any of my time off....

Have a nice evening all. x
  • Hi Messies, I`m on a roll today!

Got up early, made a couple of phone calls (arranged for car to go in for a check tomorrow), nipped into town for a few things after checking prices online(Very MSE!) then...

Put shopping away, put thawed marrow bones in oven to roast (boiling later, making a stewy broth thing) plus 3 thawed duck legs slow cooking on oven bottom for a stirfry tomorrow.
Then shook LR woolly rugs outside (VERY hairy!), both are washed and out on the line now.
Then I`ve Henry`d all downstairs, mopped LR floor with my stardrops/zoflora mix, clean rugs down and it now really looks/smells/feels clean in here.
    At last.

So I`m stopping to have a coffee break, and a little gloat!
Next I`m going to prep the veg, fry it all and a bit of stewing beef in the marrow fat, and throw the lot in a big pan with the bones.
No, I haven`t mopped the kitchen floor yet, as I haven`t finished making a mess in there yet! I fully intend to do it today though.

Right, that`s my coffee and gloat done - but he who sits on his laurels is wearing them in the wrong place, so I`m off to do some more....

Hope everyone`s having a productive day, or at least a pleasant one. x

    Morning everyone,

I am over the worst of my lurgy now, yesterday was the first time for over a week that I did anything. Or if I did do anything before that then I can't remember it. The house wasn't too bad, DH had done a good job. As it was a nice day I got some laundry done, put loads of stuff away, did a bit of decluttering, cleaned out the rabbits and cleaned the floors.

Today I have some ironing to do, a bit of dusting and general stuff. I'm at the charity shop today, I'm not particularly looking forward to it as the new person I work alongside drives me round the bend. Oh well, I'll just keep eating the biscuits. Have a good day.
  • Morning all!
Had a chilled few days (of being too tired to do much). Managed to get MrM to do a few bits and bobs of diy over the weekend which has helped. Have MasterM (4) at home today so its a bit of a lighter list but I'm really starting to feel pleased with how far weve got with everything.
    The plan.....
    Hoover all upstairs.
Repack hospital bag with bits I've realised are missing(!?!)
Food shopping if new bank card arrives.
Clear the laundry basket again, got really behind since the weekend.
    Clean the bathroom and kitchen.
Post a few bits on selling sites.
Drop a bag off at charity shop.
More as I think of it, tiredness permitting.
  • Hi Messies! Its been a while (well a week or so)

Really proud of you all, your efforts are commendable :)

I, on the other hand, has been quite lax... I haven't been too great, but I have kept on top of the day to day chores.

Just waiting for the snow to arrive, then I will have the excuse to stay wrapped up at home.

I'm reading your stories to motivate as ever :)

Keep up the good work all :) xx

  • Hi Messies!
Alec E, I`m glad you`re over the lurgy, and that your DH did his bit.
MrsM, your list sounds busy today, don`t overdo it - I`m always quite spent after a big food shop by the time it`s put away.

    Well, Chez-Emm ...
LR is still clean and tidy, except some paper build-up in computer corner, which I`ll tackle later.
Kitchen - floor and mats washed, tops clear, sink shiny AND I`ve cleaned the fronts of cupboard doors, fridge, and WM too, they were truly manky and now `white goods` are actually white again! (I did these yesterday when I was waiting for garage to phone that the car was ready. Had to be able to hear phone, and was `grounded` for the morning!)

Have to nip out to bank, and then post office to post a little `unbirthday` pressie, then try and do a bit of clothes decluttering upstairs..

    laters...
  • Hi Messies!

Terry, well done keeping on top of day-to-day stuff, hope you feel better now.

Today I finally bit the bullet and tackled my bedroom. It is MY mess, MY fault I had a random pile of stuff on the floor in front of my shoe shelf, and nobody to moan at about having to spend ages picking up, sorting, and putting away/slinging out before I could Henry the room properly.
Well now it`s done. I`m going to try to keep it tidy as I have enough to do clearing up after the menfolk here, without making additional work myself!!

Yesterday the washing machine failed to drain properly, and I ended up draining the filter plug thingy at the front - pity it`s so low down that it has to dribble out onto my (CLEAN!) kitchen floor. So glad I`d kept those 3 old vests of OH`s for cleaning rags. Sopping up the water as it dribbled out, squatting uncomfortably on kitchen floor. Then had to do the WM load all over again. GGGRRR. Apparently this was MY fault too, as I chose the WM and I`m the one who operates it!
I`m still keeping fingers crossed that it`s ok now, I`ve done a few towels today and so far it`s working well.
  • Emm my washing machine has pool of water in the drum, any suggestions how I can get rid of it? I don't want to break it (DD and her dad are at his mums, they went to a surprise 60th birthday) but I need to get DD's uniform washed, and I can't lift the machine if that's what it needs. Thank you.

Cleaned all the kitchen the other day (window frames, floor, sides etc) and the living room isn't too bad. My bedroom however... less said the better.

  • Hi MissFlirt! I`m no expert but that`s exactly what mine (it`s a Beko) looked like.
First I set it on `drain & spin` but that didn`t help much - maybe a bit less water, not a lot better.
Then I looked near the floor on the right bottom front there`s a little catch that looks like a separate little compartment, so I opened it (pull down). Inside there`s a round sort of plug. I opened it slowly (Good job too!) and water dribbled out. I just kept opening and closing it to keep up with mopping up the dribble. No lifting involved, but next time I`ll get something soft and waterproof to kneel on!
Good luck with yours hun. x
