My Home is a MESS! - part 2

Hi Messies!
Well done folks who have managed to declutter a bit and get things done, even little corners or a drawer is more than I`ve done!
JPS, I`m so glad you found the new thread, lovely to hear from you again & good luck with the diet. I could do with losing some weight but am currently feeble-willed and wanting comfort food. Also determined to use up what is in freezers and cupboards.
Messy Status Report-
I`ve just done 2 long-day shifts, so nothing done here till this morning. HOW do they trash the kitchen/accumulate a laundry mountain/clutter every flat surface when I`m on a 48 hour work/sleep/work/sleep period? Grrr.
Kitchen
This morning I must have washed every mug, plate and bit of cutlery in the house. I have found the worktops again too. I am not looking down. The floor is interesting, but I`m just going try to ignore it for now.
LR
I have found the sofa, and the top of the fireguard. Any flat surface here must be magnetic.... The weak winter sunshine this morning did make me think of dusting mantelpiece, but the dust doesn`t show now the sun`s going down. The floor and rugs aren`t too bad, I did shake the rugs and consider washing them but changed my mind.
But I haven`t been idle -
I`ve done 2 WM loads, as the heating is on today, I`ve just made a fire and it`s nearly ready for a nice log now, and I`ve got the remains of the 3-day leg of lamb simmering in a broth with veg, pearl barley and lentils. When I fish the bones out there`ll be room to throw in a tin of butterbeans and I`m planning on making some herby dumplings to add half an hour before we want to eat.
Keep warm folks, and have a nice evening. x0 -
Morning messies!
Well we had a pretty productive weekend, the whole house is actually starting to look better with the exception of the dining room which is currently in the "worse before it gets better" stage, this is largely the husbands domain so I'm largely leaving him to get on with that.
Got another couple of loads of washing to get through and get dry, going to have a bit of a floor cleaning marathon through most of the house, might attempt to get my shower curtains down for a wash (true nesting behaviour I think) and....... not sure what else. But I'm actually feeling a sense of achievement, just got to work out how we're going to maintain it when there's a baby here in 3 weeks time!!0 -
Hi Messies!
Mrs M I envy your eagerness to do floor cleaning...I WAS going to tackle the kitchen floor today, but OH came in after feeding the birds to announce that yet another peanut feeder is wrecked. So we went on a tour of 3 different pet shops inc. Pets at Home, looking for a replacement. Trouble is, anything that looks really squirrel-proof seems to be woodpecker proof, and we don`t want to discourage our regular woodpecker!
We have a very messy wild garden, but lots of wild birds have come to rely on it - 7 different kinds of feeders out there now, counting the new one!!
(It would be cheaper to keep another pet!)
After we got home I really couldn`t be bothered - OH has meticulously examined every variation in the 3 shops, (just like he did last time!), and this is the man who says I spend too much time browsing when shopping....
I`m cooking for tomorrow night as well as tonight, because
I`m working another long-day tomorrow, and again on Thursday, then an early Friday and 2 weeks off! Already my mind is starting to buzz with good intentions to get things done in the house in that 2 weeks.
See how I lurch between Motivation & Procrastination?0 -
Hi All,
I haven't been on here for a few days, I was working all weekend so I didn't get a chance to update.
My house is still tidy.....yay. But it did slip a bit over the weekend with DH and DS at home alone!
Todays mission is to sort out my son's bank account as I have opened a new account for him with better interest. I just need to pop into the bank to transfer his money over. (Very depressing when you realise your 3 year old son has more money than you lol)
This afternoon I am planning on tackling our filing cabinet as, it is actually a strenuous workout trying to close it. I am also going to tackle some drawers in the living room that are full of what I am suspecting is c**p.
My daily, weekly, bi weekly and monthly cleaning schedule is going well although as baby number 2 is coming in the next few weeks, I think this might slip slightly.
XTrying to make our money work for us and not the other way round!!0 -
No de-messifying to report here - but at least I have the laundry completely up to date, and again meals sorted for tomorrow as well as today, and kept kitchen surfaces clear.
I won`t be starting my annual leave with a laundry mountain, so that bodes well.
I can`t claim the LR is actually tidy, but it`s not too bad as I`ve been putting things away as they get dumped on sofa or chairs. What is really needed (and WILL happen!) is a good clean, with Henry & mop, and rugs washed.
My motivation is building up....0 -
Very little to report here either, had a lazy day today.
Got all the rest of my baby clothes out yesterday to sort through, how I wish I had sorted them out properly when I packed them away, sorti g by size might have been a good place to start.... Quite a few with staining round the necks which apparently is fairly common when they've been stored, something to do with oxidisation of the proteins in milk that havent completely washed out. I know everything was clean when I put it away so having to treat a load of new stains is a bit annoying!
My mother in law is coming up for a few days tomorrow night to help me sort through the rest and no doubt she'll help me with the house too but I'm going to spend tomorrow getting it to MIL visiting standard! If the bathroom doesnt stink of cleaning products for the whole day then I've done something wrong!0 -
Been sick the whole week. Taking painkillers which makes you drowsy and can't even read due to the blurriness. I am not used to taking a nap during the day and it is driving me crazy to be at home. So after 3 days I have decided nothing on telly worth watching during day time and to sort out the mountain of paperwork accumulated over the months and years. Easy to do sitting on the sofa
.
What do you messies do with years of bank statements and utility bills? Nowadays I go paperless but have been reluctant to throw away old ones. After how many years do you throw them away? I don't want to fill the loft with these, as I want to tackle the loft by summer!!!
Thanks to everyone with some advice.SPC 08 - #452 - £415

Just popping on to say hello. My MIL is here so we're going to tackle the baby clothes mountain, the toy mountain and the stepkids mess mountain/bedroom today. Anything else will be a bonus I think.
Also thought I'd share my top floor cleaning tip if it'll help anyone else, my kitchen lino is a pale pattern and is that awful textured stuff with tiny grooves which really trap the dirt - we use the kitchen (back) door as our main entrance as parking is better round that side of the house so the floor gets really grubby and no matter how many time I mop or get on my hands and knees with a cloth or one of those magic sponge things, it never looks REALLY clean. Anyway, in a fit of annoyance at it yesterday I squirted some oven cleaner foam on a patch and gave it a half hearted scrub with a rag. And a beautiful patch of clean floor apppeared. I mean CLEAN clean. After I picked myself up from the floor in dazed shock I did another patch. Works a treat, even my steam cleaner didnt do it quite like that. Hope this helps someone......0 -
Might need to try the oven cleaner foam mrsmclaren. Was it the £land one or the oven pride? xFeb NSD's 2/10 under my belt.
