My Home is a MESS! - part 2

Happy New Year to all Messies old and new, and lurkers and our MSE hosts and board guides.
As suggested by Greent, I have taken the liberty of starting a `part 2` as the original Messy thread is over 600 pages now, and maybe off-putting to new Messies. The Flylady thread tidily starts afresh every week, but that`s a bit - no, a LOT different!
There are so many reasons (and excuses!) for Mess, like the people and pets we live with who contribute to the chaos but not the clearing up, the inertia and procrastination - and sometimes despair - and the lack of time/agility/ funds to tackle some of the causes of the Messy state. It has helped some of us to share our woes and our minor victories when they occur, even share a CBA rant!
Chez-Emm..... the Mess here is a bit chronic, still a lot of seasonal clutter, plus I`ve had a marathon run of shifts in the last week, and I don`t feel right taking down what bit of tree & tinsel I put up until 12th night (Jan 6th).
But on the plus side, my shifts are pretty nice for the month after tomorrow, and my messy DS is away for a week so any de-messifying I can get done will last a bit longer!
Today I had a paper cull, so computer corner of LR looks a lot better, and I`ve spent some time in the kitchen so sink is clear and worktops semi-clear. I`m going to rearrange stuff to accommodate a new spice-tower and I want to enjoy that so not rushing at it. Also have a load of washing draped around everywhere, and cooked ahead for tomorrow night. Could be worse.
I hope everyone`s doing ok. x

Hi Emm
I dipped in and out of the last thread but intend to be fully involved in this one for as long as it takes to sort out this house, once and for all!
I am poorly with flu, but once that is gone, I am going to sort the living room (won't take too long as it was the one job I did actually almost manage to finish before Christmas :j ).
The kitchen will come second, followed by the hallway and stairs, then my bedroom and finally the children's bedroom. Theirs will be last because I have done it twice, beautifully, and they don't maintain it so it is way down on my list of priorities.
I really don't want to get to Christmas 2015 with the clutter and chaos we have accumulated!
Happy New Tidy Year everybodyPutting these winter preps here so I don't forget!
Curtain pole installed in the living room

i am going to do a month by month de messing of the house.
I intend to do a monthly project of sorting out one room per month for the year, the hall stairs landing will count as a room as will the small downstairs toilet and the garden will also be a room.
I havent decided on an order I will start January by doing the dining room, this will be painted and the wooden skirting boards will be sanded and varnished. The sideboard will be decluttered and cleaned and organised. From there I will decide which "room" to tackle in February.
Some will just need a declutter and a deep clean, others may need a lick of paint, a shelf putting up, a new light shade or some tiles fixed in the bathroom. But by next Christmas this house will be organised and manageable.
Thank you for the new thread Emm.0 -
Hi Emm nice to be near the top of the new thread! I haven't been around here much lately but I am still very much a messy. I do follow the flylady principles but as some will know I have a very busy life so it can be challenging.
I want to do so much this year, continue decluttering the house, get my finances in order, get back to cooking from scratch and make some time just for myself. However it could be challenging because we are going through a lot with Ds so I will do what I can!
Happy New year everyone x0 -
Still lurking and reading... thanks for the new thread0

Hi all,
A happy new year to you all.
This thread could not have come at a better time for me. Bssically I have started to declutter our house as we are expecting our second child in Feb.
My main aim for the year is to maintain a clean and tidy home. Paperwork being left on the kitchen counter is my bug bear and one I am going to keep on top of.
So far over the past few days, I have sorted my sons bedroom (3 yr old) and our living room. I have tackled a bit of the kitchen but will finish today.
I shall keep up to date with this thread.

Thanks for the new thread.....my resolution is to sort, clean, declutter my house and most important of all keep it that way!
Look forward to seeing how everyone is doing!
Take care all, xx0 -
Thanks for the new thread Emm, happy new year to everyone.
A bit of background on me for anyone who doesn't know, which could be everyone! In 2003 I quit my job, then I started to get my life together. I have always been untidy (and I still am) but my house had reached a point where I didn't open the curtains, no-one was allowed in through the door unless I'd had good notice so I could hide some of the mess. I had pretty much unuseable rooms they were so full of stuff.
Then one day in early 2004 someone came round unexpectedly and I had to let them in. They were clearly disgusted by the state of the room and they spoke to me as though I was stupid. It was the final straw. I was pointed in the direction of Flylady and that was that. It took months and months to get rid of the junk, and deal with the reasons I kept hold of so much stuff. It took longer again to get into a daily routine, but eventually with support from DH and from people online I got things sorted.
I'm still messy at heart but the mess is "active mess" i.e it's from things I'm doing now, it's not just mess upon mess. But I like this thread as sometimes I need to be reminded to do things and how far I've come.0 -
Good idea to start a new thread, Emm.
I've just had a big clean up as we are entertaining tonight.
My mess is now in drawers and one particular cupboard which seems full of padded envelopes kept 'just in case'. Will start tomorrow.
Happy new year to everyone!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
