eeek. That means I'm going to have to tackle the worktops tomorrow then!
My clean lovely kitchen table shall motivate me.
I've set myself a room a week target. i can do a bit at a time…i have 5 rooms (2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, and bathroom) and a hallway, so hopefully by the end of Feb (allowing for slow weeks!) my flat might be beautiful!

Well done Willowpop, that's an amazing start, feel great doesn't it! I don't know if it will be of use to you, but for things like the kitchen table, where things tend to congregate, a couple of times a day I just check them, if there's anything there I put it away. I know that sounds obvious to some people, but I had so much junk everywhere for such a long time I just didn't see it. Now, if I check then I can see when things start to build up and deal with it at the point it will only take a minute or less to do so.
Terry, so glad to hear you;re seeing things in a different light. Well done for getting things done, including your module. Hope you're feeling better soon, you're right, little and often can keep you moving forward.
So far today all I've done is made the bed and done the washing up. Before I go to the charity shop I'll put some laundry away and have a two minute tidy round. That might be it for today as we did a bit yesterday. Enjoy your day everyone.0 -
It does feel good yep, and a lady has just come from freecycle to collect a bag of stuff that was too good to chuck so she is happy too! :j
2 min tidy round sounds like a good idea when I get shipshape.PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.

Hello!
Long time lurker checking in so I actually feel I have to join in, rather than just reading about everyone else's success.
I'm 8 months pregnant with my 2nd and the house is like something out of a disaster film. Husband and I both work full time (although I have just gone on mat leave) and we have a 4 year old who will still be attending nursery 4 days for the next few months until we're in a bit more of a routine with the new baby.
I'm soooooo tired all the time and am not the tidiest or most organised person in the world at the best of times but have a pretty fixed timescale for tackling the worst of the mess. My biggest hate is putting clothes away so at the moment we live from washer to drier to wearing. Have got rid of lots of clothes over the last few months that dont fit or I just don't wear anymore and am trying to declutter in other areas too.
I have my son at home today so probably wont get that much done but we need to go to the supermarket this afternoon anyway so thats another big and tiring job ticked off I guess.
Might do me good to post every day with "the plan" then I can see how I'm doing. Would this be ok?0 -
Welcome aboard mrsm.
I am super nosy so I would love to read your plan every day!
This sounds really simplistic and might not suit you, but if you really hate putting laundry away could that be a job your husband takes on? If you get it to a point where it's ready to go away then all he has to do is put in the drawers, wardrobes etc.
I don't like washing up (we don't have a dishwasher) so DH does it. He doesn't care either way, but he does like the fact that there's always a cup or a knife in the drawer ready to use and there's nothing clogging up the worktops. I do virtually everything else but that one thing makes a massive difference to the running of the house.
Although I did wash up today as he's at the hospital.0 -
:grouphug: Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to mrsm
Sounds like we are all tackling things at a good pace, "small steps Elsie".... Did that saying come from a film??
Yes, delegation is the way forward I think (although I don't think my kitty will be contributing much!) At your stage in the pregnancy mrsm, it will do the family good to chip in, free up some some time for you to rest more. :T
I am so cross with myself today; I went to bed at a reasonable hour, woke coughing my head off in the middle of the night and had the alarm set for 8am. I have obviously pressed the snooze button until even the alarm thought I was a lost cause and gave up trying to wake me. I slept in until 11!! I have lost half my day and then I have had chit chats with friends on the phone, watched the drama unfold on sky newsand had a healthy breakfast/lunch of salad and chilli.. So, I am going to chunk myself an hour to sort out the clothes pile at the end of my bed.. This is a job I leave until its unbearable, so I'll pounce on it now while I am motivated with your progress
Well done for washing up AlecI miss my dishwasher and now as I live alone, I don't really need one...
Have a fab day busy bees :dance:Saving for Xmas 2015 #53 £50 / £365 :snow_laug0 -
What a motivational thread! I am going to subscribe to this. I need to do a lot of de-cluttering to claim back some space in my house.pollypenny wrote: »As for glasses, we seem to have loads. OH brought a load home from the rugby club once, why I don't know. In Belgium it's traditional to have a designated glass for each beer: we've acquired a selection of named beer glasses, which must be kept as we were given them!
I can totally relate to that. Having lived in Germany we too have accumulated all kinds of beer glasses. We have 2 large boxes of them and most of the beers aren't even available to buy in the UK (hence sitting in the loft). :eek:SPC 08 - #452 - £415

Doubt my plans will be anything exciting but hopefully a useful way of keeping an eye on whats getting done!
Husband also hates putting washing away but has agreed that it will be his job once we've decluttered enough for our clothes storage to be manageable, we've got to the bottom of the washing basket and we're starting from a point of being organised with everything put away to begin with. Sounds fair enough to me.
So today's plan:
Go to supermarket
Tidy kitchen and do washing up
Hoover bedroom and bathroom
2 x loads of washing0 -
Cookery books - bin or give to charity, you can get any recipe on the internet.
Pens - keep some and maybe donate the rest to a school or charity to use.
Crafty things - as above - our school loves getting crafty stuff.
Any old electricals take to the tip.
CD's, bin the scratched ones, keep your favourites donate the rest to charity..
What do you do with new stuff, unused gifts you got or decorations you've collected over the years? Not to mention travel memorabilia etc. Do you guys sell them? I haven't ever sold anything, so don't know where to start. I can afford to give it to charity though.Stear clear of putting things in the loft.SPC 08 - #452 - £415

Hi Messies!
It`s great to have de-lurkers posting, Messies need all the motivation we can get, let`s keep giving each other a helpful shove!
Keggsy & MrsM, I think your motivation is what we used to call `nesting`! Good luck with that, and take care not to overdo it.
Alec E, Happy Birthday -is it today?
Re washing up - this is one of the jobs I actually like, irrespective of mood, so it`s usually my starting point. Today it was the last job to tackle though, as I`ve been waiting for the Drain Unblockers...
I got home after a crazy 12 hours on the ward and observed the water level in downstairs loo was a bit low, and glugging.
I rang Welsh Water this morning and the Drain team were here when they said they`d be, Bless`em.
Meanwhile, I made a start in caravan of Doom. So, a bootload of junk, empty birdfood sacks, cardboard boxes and paper to drop off at recycling skips, clean rugs and Christmas decs put away, and sacks of kindling sticks neatly stacked at the near end. Caravan and hall now look a lot less cluttered.
I tackled the kitchen next, when the drain trouble was sorted, and am now off to empty my boot and buy some milk & bread.
Bedroom will have to be next, I think.
Onwards & upwards then, have a nice afternoon all. x0
