2015 - No Clutter To Be Seen
Comments
-
Hi everyone,
Is it too late to join your de-cluttering group?
I've got so many things to sort out, I don't know where to begin.
I'm disabled & unable to do it myself, so will have to get someone to help me. I've got two rooms full of things I've not used in years. Many can actually be sold on eBay & I could really use the money to pay off some of my bills (I've not updated my signature details yet). I've also got lots of things that could go to the charity shop. Naturally, there's loads to go in the rubbish. All this clutter is making me so depressed.
I would be so very grateful for any help you wise people can offer me.
Thanks in advance,

Busy day today!
81. Old mattress to the tip. It was beyond redemption, otherwise I would have put it on Freecycle. It's been sitting on its side in my son's room for weeks and I've been intending to take it to the tip all that time, so I'm delighted that it's finally gone!
82. Two bags of old clothes to the tip (recycling). I discovered an old coat. Not only was it horrible, but I'm never likely to see size 12 again!
83. three binbags of general rubbish to the tip. Another two in my car to go first thing in the morning.
84. two bags of charity shop stuff taken to the tip (there is a van for a local charity shop parked in the corner - means just one trip for all rubbish, recycling, and charity shop stuff!)
85. bag of coat hangers to the tip. I wanted to give to the charity shop van, but staff wouldn't accept them
86. pile of bathroom towels put away properly onto shelves in upstairs bathroom
87. I found some unused Christmas presents that were for Brownies a few years ago. They have been rehomed in to my Brownies and Rainbows box. I have ten, so enough for Rainbows (not enough for Brownies), but need to decide on suitability. We can always use the stuff in the unit if necessary.
88. Six Brownie badges found in a box. Rehomed into my badge box ready to give out. They were from a previous unit that closed down.
89. Large box of cardboard collected during my tidying up has been put into recycling. This is in addition to my usual recycling, which I don't count.
90. Large box of stuff given to daughter. Everything was hers anyway, it's just that I've found it last night or this morning. It included three books, a swimming costume, an unopened roll of Christmas paper, cardmaking stuff, and another empty cardboard box (she's collecting them at the moment, as she is having her kitchen refitted later this month and needs to pack up stuff)
91. a large pile of various items cleared from my son's bedroom floor. Recycled, binned, charity shop, or rehomed into correct place. I can see the floor!
92. Five magazine boxes filled with son's books. This keeps them together (most are thin, picture book type). At the moment, they are on his desk, but I know I have to sort these out too. I've put a few in the charity bag along the way, but I need to sort his books properly. I just need to get rid of other stuff first!
93. Pet ashes to the tip. I know it sounds awful, but they were in my daughter's house when she bought it, and she wouldn't get rid of them. I've been ferrying them around in my car for a year now, so when I was at the tip, I handed them to one of the staff. I did ask him where I should put them, and he took the box from me, so technically speaking, I haven't binned them.....
94. Photo albums put away in drawer.
I've also cleaned the bath, collected the washing together, emptied and refilled the dishwasher, emptied the bathroom bin downstairs, cooked tea, and had a general tidy round! No wonder I'm shattered!
I have thirteen empty boxes and crates as a result of today's clearing out. They're going into the loft for now. I know that some would say to get rid of them, but when I clear my own bedroom (which will be a mammoth task!), I'm going to put anything that I keep into boxes. They're not just plain cardboard ones, they're the patterned type with lids, so quite nice. I might also use a couple in the dining room for storing excess DVDs.
Tomorrow I intend to go to the tip after taking my son to school, then tackle the corner of the kitchen (large table mainly filled with Brownie and Rainbow stuff). Hopefully, before the end of this week, I will be able to tackle underneath my son's cabin bed. Now that will be a challenge!0 -
155. Packaging that a pair of boots came in months ago, decided to finally take the boots out and put in my wardrobe and bin the box! -binned.
156. Single duvet cover, old and a bit holey!! - binned and replaced with one that I was going to cut up and make stuff out of because the print was so nice. Had it in a box for about 2 years!!
157. Xmas jumper which I'm never going to wear again - CS.
160 - 158. 3 glass bangles - CS.
161. Dryathlete wristband - binned.
162. Lone knitting needle - binned.
During the week I'll be decluttering a washing machine, lamp and kettle because they have all decided to break at the same time! They will all be replaced sharpishDecluttering 2015: 2162/20150 -
I filled half a bin bag today with some useless stuff from the garage. Although DS saw me fling a little petrol pump from a garage he had as a baby - we don't have the garage - he wanted to keep the pump. I let him but asked him to go find a broken or outgrown toy, which he did, bless him. He's quite good at letting broken bits go.
We did find our 8th planet though :T which was lost under a pile. So we are going to stick our solar system back to the garage ceiling at some point. Need a yellow balloon for the sunBossymoo

Evening all,
not got anything done for ages,
however OH and DS got some more items from attic for me, so thats this weeks job.
I'm dreading it as 3 huge suitcases came down and they must be full as they are heavy. Hope they are not full of clothes.
Regards:j0 -
Well, that ended up being quite a productive day.
Because I had taken Friday off work, rooms such as the kitchen, which I would normally have cleaned and tidied today, had been done then.So today I concentrated on straightening up the 3 bedrooms as much as possible.Actually, didn't do too bad.
I tidied the 3rd bedroom, having taken all that stuff to Cash4Clothes yesterday.Divided stuff into:
- keep(to go into younger girls' room/into son's room)
-charity shop
-list to sell
-make sure a game or toy has all the pieces before donating/selling
That room still has too much stuff in it,and it will all be moved out at the weekend hopefully,if OH is well enough to continue decorating (has been sick for a week).
Then I worked in eldest's room. She is actually very good at keeping her new room in good order (I should think so,too, with all that storage!!).But there were a few boxes of stuff lying around,so I stacked them neatly, found a few bits of tat to throw out,and from this room I did also do some actual decluttering :j:
469:chest of drawers eldest daughter doesn't need now that she has new clothes storage
470: mirror from a sideboard that was taken to the tip from 2nd bedroom a few weeks ago.Not sure why OH kept the mirror
471: handbag,given at Christmas,but I know I will never use it
I am really pleased that 2 of the items are such big items-that really does free up space. All these items I gave to a friend. She told me the mirror she was going to offer to a friend to sell in her shop,so I might even get some money for it when it sells.Wasn't expecting that :j.SPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76

Evening fellow declutterers :-)
I took the "do it now" approach and dropped my latest bin bag of stuff off at the charity shop yesterday. Today, I recluttered my bedroom with most of the contents of DD's bedroom, including her bed, so we are room mates for a little while. Her Dad is going to redecorate her bedroom for her over half term. Now I've moved everything out, it really does need doing, sad to see it change though, it is lemon because it was originally nursery for both DD and DS before her. Our shared room is a bit tight for space with double and single bed in it, but much nicer and tidier than it would have been without decluttering efforts so far this year.
Anyway, move enabled a bit more decluttering. A pair of pink curtains, a Muppets cushion, some pink fairy lights, a framed print of a teddy and a peg board set with all the different colour pegs, plus a bag full of loom bands all in next charity bag. A poster DD no longer wanted, recycled. So, progress.
I don't usually achieve much decluttering Mon-Fri, so have a good week everyone, see you next weekend. And welcome to those new to the thread, hope you enjoy getting rid of stuff one thing at a time.

I think the more you declutter and then realise that you don't miss the stuff you got rid of the easier it becomes to be more clinical about it.:)
I might be moving this year so I look at items and think can I be bothered to pack this when I leave and often the answer is "No" and so out it goes.:D
176. Scourer thrown away after trying to scrub baking tray last night.
177. I have some stuff for textile recycling to be picked up so I will go through my wardrobe again and probably will find at least one item to go.
178. I have some chopped chillies that need to be used up so I will cook something like chilli or curry later.
179. Cat food packaging thrown away.
180. I have a sachet of hair conditioner to use up later tonight.Samantha22 wrote: »Hi everyone,

If you tackle one drawer/ cupboard/ area at a time and do 15 minutes it can break it down into chunks and seem less daunting.
Some charity shops will come and pick up bigger goods (I got rid of a working freezer recently) and then they will often take other things like clothes/books/ toys while they are at your house as long as it's bagged up.
Some councils do textile recycling and pick it up from your house. Some people on here use cash for clothes but I'm not sure how that works as I haven't tried that.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000
