2015 - No Clutter To Be Seen

  • Hi everyone, not much today so far, but hoping to do more later.

    76. two large coffee tins (catering type) to a friend who works in a nursery. She said that she can use them and will take future ones from me too.

    77. two bags of rubbish - various items from upstairs

    78. two bags of clothing for recycling at the tip

    79. old sleeping bag - for recycling at the tip

    80. old duvet - for recycling at the tip

Now, a slight dilemma for some items received! I won the raffle at Slimming World this week, and although I knew the prize was fruit and veg, I didn't realise that there was a pineapple in there. I'm allergic to pineapple :( . My mum can't eat it (fruit doesn't agree with her). My kids don't like pineapple. I'm just trying to think who would enjoy it the most out of friends that I am likely to see over the next couple of days, but I'm not actually planning on seeing anybody! Hmmm, I'm glad I typed that actually. I think I'll take it to Brownies on Monday. Problem solved!

    151. I went through the pet box file and got rid of stuff from there. I'm sure I went through that last year!
Old vet statements and bills recycled.

    152. A dog training book with a ripped cover into recycling bin. I'm not sure if I should bin it instead.

    153. Old photo of my cat that passed away printed out from the computer put into recycling bin. It wasn't a very clear picture and I already have two framed pictures of him.

    154. Vinegar bottle used up and binned.

    155. Cider cans into recycling. I have been decluttering, listening to podcasts, reading MSE and drinking two cans of cider over the last few hours.:D What fun.:rotfl:

Thank you for mentioning rags, I just threw them away but will start collecting them now and search the local cs's for one which takes them :)

Gave neighbour a can of hairspray, the button is much too stiff for me to press down but she can do it, just.
Jar of mango chutney growing a culture, contents binned and jar in bag for bottle bank
A weeks shredding done, mostly circulars, it goes to a friend for pet bedding but what a waste of trees :(
Looked through the airing company and found a couple of holey tea towels and an almost see-through cot sheet There hasn't been a cot in this house for 30 years! All put into the new rag bag.

From the Hoarding - Springing Ahead thread : -
Gone through a load of paperwork for an old job and for my Dad's probate.

The job's gone and the probate is sorted. I don't need 'proof' any of it happened.

The recycling bin is half filled with shredded paper!

I've gone through my stationery and culled a load of graph, photo, lined and squared paper, as well as fancy boxes (for presents I didn't send), folders, dividers, hanging files for a filing cabinet and ring binders.

I'm getting rid of a plastic basket that swings on its handle so badly it drops most of what it's carrying

A bag for life so big, it scrapes along the ground

    and coat hangers.

I've got rid of so many clothes that I don't need as many coat hangers.

There are a couple of charity shops that will have all this. Even if they can't sell it, they make use of it.

After coming home from a night shift, I brought all that to the PDSA and before I left the house again, swept the place for more stuff.

Two needlepoint books by Kaffe Fassett and Hugh Ehrman - beautiful to look at, too many patterns and projects before I get to them and wildly expensive - Appleton tapestry and crewel wools.

Huge patterns that would cost a small fortune in yarns or threads from whichever supplier.

A Dummies book about depression - I haven't read it since I bought it, why am I going to read it now?

A thick tome about the Russian Revolution - don't know how I got that one.

    A pair of Tesco jeans.

A Superdrug knock off of a Cath Kidston type pinafore apron - too twee and I've got 'rough clothes' for doing housework and DIY.

A vintage coat which I bought, washed and had second thoughts over. It's polyester, from the days when polyester was a new and happening fabric. Roughly the same shade as "American Tan" and washed beautifully.

But - I have plenty of Spring and Autumn weight coats, it's too formal for most of my wardrobe and if I was going to wear something formal, it won't be a woven, polyester, "American Tan" colour long coat with the somewhat eccentric original buttons.

One hat - too short on my head to cover my ears

and another pair of 3D cinema glasses.

Whilst I was out at the shops, I left some Yankee Candle gear on the shelf!! :D

Stuff going out and nothing coming in! Not bad!!
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...
  • Had a bit of a sort out of 'under the stairs' earlier, 2 pairs of trainers in the CS pile, some carrier bags sorted out, 6 pairs of gloves discovered (sorted for the next few winters!)... I now have 2 empty shoe storage shelves under there, I'm wondering what I can store there that will be OK in a spidery place and that won't need to be that accessible, have to put my thinking cap on!

That inspired me to sort the cupboard under the sink, bottles and sprays organised, so we can actually just put our hands on stuff instead of pulling the whole cupboard out each time to find something!

20! Yes 20 cloths thrown out, either too manky or that were offcuts of t shirts, good idea in theory but I can't get on with them as cloths. All remaining cloths and scourers put in a carrier bag instead of strewn all over the cupboard space.

    Strangely liberating :j

Under my sink, on the back of the cupboard door, I have hung one of those pocket things that normally store shoes. One like this:

I've cut it down to size and keep my bottles of sprays and other stuff in it. One pocket is filled with dishwasher tablets, minus the box. It saves loads of space. The idea came from Pinterest last year.

    Rampant Recycler Debt-free and Proud!
In my experience several Charity Shops have welcomed my bags of rags:j. So long as the bags are labelled clearly as such and they don't have to waste time going through them they say they just add them to their masses of unweareable donations that the recyclers pay them for.

If one CS refuses them, just try another one Saver-upper. Good Luck:beer:
I totally agree with the above ^^^^^^^^^some charities make over 10% of their funds from rags

A quick Drop off at a local CS for a small bag containing a pair of cheap crocs, an old kitchen knife (replaced with a new one as chipped very tip but a great knife anyway), some miniature toiletries from travelling that were gathering bathroom dust... Not sure if anything else was in the bag.
