Went through my wardrobe and drawers today and now have a huge big bag full of clothes and bedding, a carrier bag full of bric-à-brac both for charity, another big liner of rags and a small pile building up of stuff that belongs to my sister! No idea how to count it all though so I'm going to say roughly 35 things sorted and ready to go. YEY!

  • Today's plan is to sort the stuff that has fallen behind the wicker chair, finish clearing the coffee table, take stuff to the tip or charity shop, and clean the cooker. Wish me luck! I'll log on later to report progress.

    17. Sorted most of stuff that had fallen behind the wicker chair, although there is a bag of patterned cardboard tubes still there (for Rainbows and Brownies).

    18. Cleaned the cooker.

    19. Sorted the stuff on top of the DVD unit in the hall. I bought a pack of those individual packs of tissues this morning, as we only had five left (and we all have heavy colds). I've just found another 17 individual packets......

    20. Took two bags to hospice warehouse, plus two bags of carrier bags.

    21. Took two bin bags to the tip, as well as an old convector heater that hasn't worked for a year.

    22. Took another pile of washing upstairs - I'm sure it breeds!

I've not cleared the coffee table yet though.

    Small decluttering achievements done today:
    * A bag with tea bags with BBE 2013 have gone in the bin, they tasted awful
    * Digestive biscuits that have gone soft have now been moved to the bird table
    * I have sorted through OH's plastic wallet with BBQ recipes, some have been thrown away

Best of all, OH has currently caught the decluttering bug to sort out his office, planning to spend 2 hours in there until it is all sorted.

    1) [yes, sorry, I know it's the 19th Jan and I'm only on #1*, but I've been busy] Waterproof jacket & trousers that are too small for me are currently in the washing machine being re-proofed with Nikwax I found lurking under the sink, ready to go to CS tomorrow if they dry overnight.
    2) Empty Nikwax detergent bottle now in recycling.

    * Have been keeping up with usual weekly recycling etc, but haven't had time to do anything extra until now.

I was working today,so haven't had any time for a formal decluttering session, but tomorrow we have carpet arriving for the second bedroom :j.So since coming home from work/school,all efforts have been put toward emptying the room
-the drawers were taken out of a chest of drawers so it could be moved into another room, underbed storage boxes also moved out and now standing up in the bath .
-Bunk bed was split into 2,one bed disassembled altogether and is in parts around different areas of the house (there is just NO ROOM for 2 single beds lying around upstairs). The other bed will have to stay in the room and be lifted up one end at a time when it comes time to lay the carpet.

The only real decluttering done today was when 11yo son sorted out an underbed storage box.He found a few things to donate or throw out. :T

I have got tomorrow off,so hoping to have a real serious decluttering session (my dream day= 6 hours of uninterrupted decluttering:happyhear ).I would also like to actually go to the charity shop and get stuff out of the house, but will see how the day pans out.The problem is that going to the charity shop to donate actually takes away from decluttering time-sigh.

Thank you all for such a motivating thread.

    Rampant Recycler Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi Everyone

Hope you don't mind if I join in - bit late I know - but I need to get some 'stuff' cleared out. I already recycle all the paper/glass/plastic anyway every week so I won't be counting that.

The place generally looks clean and tidy but there are all the boxes, shelves, cupboards, drawers and obviously wardrobes that really need sorting, even though it's out of sight I still know it's there

I have a day off work tomorrow so think I will make a gentle start when I have done the usual housework jobs.

I love stationery and I have loads of it. However, today I pulled out all of my notebooks and realised that there are many that I am never going to use as there are others that I like much more. I have memo books, cash books, small ones, large ones, reporters notebooks, books with graph paper. Books with margins on the paper and some without. You get the picture. I've got three beautiful books wrapped up in ribbon - now perhaps I will use them as well as the others that I really like.

I will ask my daughters first if they want any of them and if not they can go on Freegle or to the charity shop - though the bag is very heavy and will need several trips (I have no car)

One thing I have to admit to is that I bought two storage boxes from W H Smith to store some paperwork in. This paperwork was in document wallets that had seen better days - have you seen the price of document wallets? I saw some today for £1.49 each and I would have needed about eight or ten. So I bought a couple of boxes, two for £6.99 and they fit perfectly in my cupboard. I will probably go and get some more for some other things I have to file.

Also tonight I have sorted some of my guide books and leaflets out. I figured by the time I go back to some of these places (and some I may not) things will have changed anyway. I've kept what I think I might want again but the rest can go. I took some to Oxfam today as they always have a section for maps and guide books but there are many more to go now.

There are not enough hours in the day for me to do as much decluttering as I want. And the house doesn't look any tidier yet!
