  • I've given up on keeping track of numbers, but OH and his dad took a large amount of cardboard to the tip earlier this week. I've just cleared fridge and cupboards of any part-finished and beyond use bits. My bday cards are all in the recycling pile, and our collected bottles and tins from this week are about to be put in recycling for collection tomorrow.

After my very sluggish start this afternoon,I ended up doing nearly 6.5 hours of tidying .Kitchen surfaces completely cleared of cups, washing up,bits of random toys (though I have still got a crystal-growing set-up near the fruit bowl and a rock tumbler in the opposite corner icon_rolleyes.gif ),dishwasher put on again (the only time my dishwasher competely catches up is when OH and kids go out for the day :D),any hand-washing up done.Floor washed, tiles wiped down, windows cleaned.Kitchen is only small, but it took over 2 hours to do .

As much as possible,I tidied 2 of the 3 bedrooms, vacuumed them. Also cleared stairs of all clutter, top landing, front hallway, dining room (I had done a deep-clean of bathroom on Wednesday).

As far as actual get-it-out-of-the-darn-house decluttering goes,I emptied a magazine holder full of instruction manuals for assembling IKEA furniture/dishwasher manuals/old TV manuals/trampoline assembly instructions/pushchair manuals,etc....In amongst all that there was also instructions for kid's toys bought over the last 12years.Had lots of "awwww" moments with those memories.Even found instructions for a swing set we bought our nearly 13yo for her first birthday :o.

I think I still have another identical (empty) magazine holder in the loft,so I will declutter them both to one of the teachers at school.

I also spent nearly an hour decluttering a pretty storage box (A4 size, about 15cm deep,) of papers. So much stuff!!!School notes from 2012-13,lists of things to do :o,appointment letters, receipts.Even found a £10 note in an envelope of receipts!! Who said decluttering doesn't pay,ha!!(Going to put the tenner in my sealed pot.)Unfortunately, the pretty storage box is not yet empty.

I am about to get school uniforms out of tumble drier and start ironing those.Hate ironing, grumble grumble.

So,if I don't count the 567,351,105 individual pieces of paper I seem to have got rid of today,I have also set aside for charity a few random soft toys that were lying around.

I might count items as they actually leave the house (over the last few weeks I have been chucking stuff into bags to be donated when I get a chance).

  • Crumbs dND, that is drastic measures to get decluttering! Hope you get cupboards sorted, at least you caught the problem before any disasters.

Callisto, I should have used that maxim of not turning the spare room into a dumping ground! It's taken 2 years to get it nearly all sorted after moving from 1 bed house to 2 bed flat (finding furniture, decluttering etc). I'm on the last stretch now, I think.

Lots of decluttering done here but none has left the flat yet so I can't count it. Significant thing has been wardrobe where I have tried to create a capsule wardrobe. A big pile of clothes have gone into the charity shop bag which I hope to remove this week. I had to have a stern word with myself about letting go of some items. It is difficult some times but I know I'll feel much better when they're gone.
