Marks & Spencer Credit Note Refused

I returned clothes to M& S in. November and given i could not find the receipt was isssued with a large Credit note.
We did our Xmas Shop on the 22 December and exchanged our credit note and was issued with another Credit Note for £49 being the remaining balance, went to. M&S today and did the shop again and redeemed the voucher only to be told it was invalid given the ink on the bar code had rubbed against the side of my wallet, after a lengthy discussion with the shop manager they refused to honour the Credit Note, disgraceful Customer Service from M&S,i am not to blame there ink on their receipts is of poor quality, beware of these dodgy tactics, taking the matter up with their head office,

I personally think their credit notes are appalling, they are no different to a standard receipt. I've no idea why they don't use cards like other stores, or maybe they want you to lose them.

I think you have hit it on the nail, the manager straight away referred me to the T&C on the bottom of the credit note, the print is so small i could hardly read it.
I got the distinct feeling the lady on the till was embarrassed by the managers decision and apologised given the document was only seven days old

Call up their customer services.. Can you not read the number atall? You can type the numbers in on self service if you can read them.

The bar code is obliterated,i have rang customer services and guess what they straight away said refer to our T&C,i have posted the actual Credit Note to them so they can see for themselves the folds where the ink has rubbed off.
I have just checked our statements over the last twelve months and we spent just over £7100 with them.
Well thats that a good customer lost.
  • T+C's do not absolve them of legal responsibilities.
Their systems will show you are still owed money.
I would send them a letter before court action for the balance.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

and tell them you'll go to the papers - i doubt they'll want the bad publicity. The credit notes should be on a card.

It doesn't look like you can post on their main Facebook page but each branch has a page which accepts reviews, you could try that.
I'm pretty sure they can tell that you are a genuine case. Shocking service.
  • Do you not have the other receipts that would back up your claim and they could look back their systems with dates etc?
