After being issued with a credit note, can people ask for that to be transfered to a gift card? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

Is anyone else wondering how the "ink" "rubbed off" when m&s exclusively use thermal printers and have done for years?
There isn't any "ink" TO "rub off". Indeed, the only way to add " ink" to a thermally printed receipt is either to write on it with a pen or similar, or to subject it to a fair amount of heat/friction.
I do wonder quite what the OP has been doing with their hands whilst said wallet was in their pocket... Ahem.
Ink would probably smudge more than rub off. I've had receipts where the printed area has flaked off. I've also had bus tickets that have faded (I was once given a weekly ticket without the holder thing and when I complained they told me to not put anything like sticky tape on it as it would ruin the ticket, so it's likely there are other ways of accidentally damaging them). I think the OP has just used the wrong word.0 -
Whilst I have some sympathy for the op,I work in customer service and must get at least half a dozen people a day trying to avoid or reduce the amount they need to pay for the service provided.
Society has changed and companies have to adjust their policies to reflect this.0 -

Oh, absolutely. I've seen numerous instances of the thermally printed media fading, but the OP does himself no favours by failing to understand the difference. Indeed, if he's used similar woring when complaining, I'm not surprised the response has been "yeah, right".Whilst I have some sympathy for the op,I work in customer service and must get at least half a dozen people a day trying to avoid or reduce the amount they need to pay for the service provided.

In other words, there's a serious decline in the moral standard of society so everyone has to be treated as a potential thief.0 -

In a nutshell yes.
I only speak on the evidence presented to me on a daily basis.0 -

I fully agree. Scum seem to proliferate, even where previously none ventured.0 -
I was interested to read this thread about M&S's appalling customer service, I said the same today . I ordered goods online and used a £10 off footwear voucher against 3 pairs of shoes (I only intended keeping one pair). The £10 was taken off my online bill as a separate item, I also applied a £5 off a £35 spend voucher and was pleasantly surprised that it accepted both. I decided to keep 2 pairs of the shoes as well as an item of clothing. On returning the one pair of shoes was surprised that they took £5 off the amount they refunded. The assistant said that the refund amount was determined by the till so couldn't be changed. I took it up with Head Office and each time I said I didn't understand their logic when my voucher clearly said £10 off footwear (no min spend). They split the voucher and took the shoe value as £20 to refund for each pair instead of £25. If I return 2 pairs then I would only have had £5 off my footwear. I'm tempted to return them all and buy just one pair to get my £10 off. Had they deducted the £5 from the 2 pairs ie reduced the amount by £2.50 on return of one pair I could have understood the logic. It seems to be a new policy as I have never experienced this before. Sorry it's so complicated to explain, hope I haven't lost you. Not a huge amount of money at stake I know but it turned a pleasurable experience into a bad one, I had been a happy customer for years! Grrr!0
