Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2015

Hi everyone, I have been lurking and reading along everyday and love this forum. I have also learned a lot so thank you everyone. Had not got time previously to post as I was studying for my final exams for an Honours degree in Accountancy, which I completed over a week ago. Don't be fooled into thinking I am a young one, unfortunately I am a not so sprightly fifty five year old, as I have fibromyalgia. Love this thread and in the spirit of mending today I went through my linen cupboard and took out the fitted sheets that had lost their elastic in the corners and have set about replacing said elastic. Save me buying replacement sheets.
Fuddle love the colour of your kitchen units.Stashbusting 2015 6/23 :j0 -
:T Wow, Fuddle, that's a gorgeous kitchen, well done, and a lovely blue. I'm not due to decorate anything but some white gloss onto the woodwork but you beggars are giving me itchy fingers, dammit!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Fuddle the kitchen is fabulous, looks brand new. I wonder if DS will do the bits I cant reach if I do ours. Not so sure how it will go as kitchen must be at least 40 years old and has been made out of three different kitchen units for each cupboard. The doors are pine but the rest is just paper covered board in two different colours.0

Thank you. I'm pleased with how it's coming on. It cost £14.00 for the tile paint and £13.00 for the chalk (although I would pay more for better if I was doing it again) All I need now is clear varnish. So worth it for what it cost.
Well some very good news about the allotment. I met my neighbours today. A very nice couple who gifted some asparagus. They proceeded to talk to me about the impending movement of plots due to house building and told me that he was the chairman of the allotment committeeHe said to make myself a member because all members will be offered plots first. It's right up there with important things that need doing
It's actually heart breaking stuff because they have invested in apple, pear and plum trees that they are going to have to leave behind, only to be bulldozed. They don't know how they're going to move their buildings and because they won't get the plot till at least September they know they are going to lose out with planting winter stuff.0 -
fuddle, I love those colours! that kitchen has been transformed - I love the 'look' you have gone for.
shame about the allotments - yes become a member quickly - at least then you will have next year.0 -
Fuddle your kitchen has been transformed - it looks lovely.
VJsmum I used Danish oil on my dining table - it's so easy, just wipe on then let it "dry". The first few coats sink in and don't seem to be doing a lot but after 3 or 4 coats you start to see a big difference. It sounds a faff having to do multiple coats but because you just use a rag to wipe it on it's a doddle.0 -
I still cant post pics - I see fuddle has, but I keep getting 'timed out' when I go to photobucks! what am I doing wrong I wonder?0

Linda congratulations on the arrival of little Catherine it's a lovely name,so is Cat.

Silva well done on mending the sail, you have achieved so much with your boat, you should be very proud.
Fuddle your kitchen is unrecognizable.I love that colour.A house near me has their front door that colour and i admire it every time I pass.
Welcome to any new people I may have missed.
Lynne I made my own paint for the monster wardrobe.3 coats and waxed. It possibly didn't need 3 coats but it was very, very rough and needed covering well.If I was staying here I would have painted the kitchen and varnished it.
I think thats roughly what I said in the lost post, forgive me if i missed anything I shouldn't.
