Lindadykes - many congratulations on the safe arrival of DGD. Has she a name yet? How lovely that her first blankie should be made by Nana :)
A result today - my sailing buddy came over with her heavy duty sewing machine and we got my sail repaired in about an hour. The guy who gave me the fabric to repair it told me his company would charge about £180 to do it so very MMM. I also got rid of a couple of large stereo speakers on free cycle so that's a bit more c**p out of the way too. I think I'm going to revamp our budget. We've been sailing close to the wind over the last few months and got a bit complacent. I don't think I could cut down as much as some of you have done but I'm going to aim for £5 per day for the two of us & that includes food, cleaning equipment and toiletries. I've spent £6.50 so far this week and only need a few basics. There I've saidit nowso I'll have to do it!! I do need to start clearing the freezer. Off to eat my apple turnover I made yesterday ;)

vulpix - Congrats on the new house, good luck with the packing.

I love to hear of a new grandchild Lyndadykes, what an honour to have your quilt used as her first blanket.

So glad you have got your sail fixed silvasava, very MMM.

I was having a wander around Ikea with DD this afternoon and got 2 plain white bowls for cereal, etc reduced to 50p each, bargain! I also bought some fabric storage boxes for the top of my wardrobe and remembered I had a £15 voucher so used that and only needed to put £8 towards them. That's the voucher decluttered and my bedroom will be tidy soon.

Mrs LW, glad HWK is feeling better and Docky is holding his own.

Does Prinzessilein not come on this thread anymore? Perhaps someone else has made this cake and can answer please?

Hi ,ginger cake improves with keeping, keep in a cake tin,can be wrapped loosely in greaseproof/baking paper.it gets nice and sticky hence loose wrap.4-5 days will be ok

    congrats,lyndadykes on new GD.

meritaten,if there is no ribbing, just stocking stitch then it usually curls up and can make a nice feature. If you don't like it what about folding a small hem and sewing loosely in place,if there is enough odge, but it might be a bit firm.

Thank you for the congratulations on the birth of my second grandchild. The first is over the moon that at the grand old age of 7 she has officially become a "big sister". She does have a name and in itself it is MMM as it was my mother's name, her mother's name and her mother before that's name - it's Catherine. My mam never really liked her name but that's because she always got called Cathy or Cath and never really liked those versions. DD is determined that Catherine will either get her full name or if it is shortened it will be to "Cat".

I love the name Catherine - I was in school with a Catherine and she was lovely. yeah, shorten it to Cat! that's what my friend told people to call her for short.
I hate my name being shortened - its Carol and I cant stand being called Car! everybody does it though and I have learned to live with it.
