Thank you Viv! Wow - they are earlier than I thought! they were in such good condition I thought she had bought them new - should've known they were 'old junk' - rofl - my 'antiques' inherited from her would have been 50 or so years old and bought from junk shops! she was known to be 'miserly'!
and that information about the England and Made in England - I should've known that! doh - I watch Flog it and Antiques Roadshow and Dickinsons Real Deal!
I love these two little vases - they actually got washed today with the Royal Crown Derby willow pattern and put back on my just polished dresser.
oh lordy - I have loads of stuff inherited directly from great aunt and these two little vases went to my aunt. when we cleared out her house after she died, my other aunt put them in the 'charity' box. but I asked if I could have them as I collect Blue and White china. the 'willow pattern' tea set was a 'direct inheritance' as I had admired it as a child. Great Aunt Mildred was a 'character'. and I look at these vases and smile and think of her.

I also had major problems accessing the site this afternoon and evening, obviously the gremlins playing silly boogers.

    Hi All
the site seems to be working now - apart from the Thanks which tells me it has timed out after a few secs and then proceeds to do the thanking and then let me get on with it!!

Fuddle - powdered custard is MUCH cheaper than tinned - also you can more easily add other flavours such as chocolate and coffee and grated orange or lemon zest!

One of them days again where I dont realise that I'm MM&M ing!! A student today had a friend round who decided to sit in on the lesson (which annoys me but not a lot I can do about it!) They decided to explain some maths to my student (in a manner which she would not understand - part of my skill is that I can explain things several different ways! - and needed to draw it out on paper - I handed them some of my 'scrapping paper' a some of my students call it - its perfectly Ok and is where some worksheet or other has misprinted but we scribble on the back! Well this 'friend asked why I didn't use proper paper - my student and I burst out laughing! :) My student thinks its because I am v eco friendly (which is also true!) Then they claimed that a line had sides to it if it formed a circle - but it doesn't because then it forms an infinity - with infinite sides and angles!! that made em - shut up and disappear when I showed them the mathematical proof on the internet!! Ha Ha!!

also made HM food again today; used the 'run off' (water that is drawn down from the tank before it turns hot enough to wash dishes) to water my plants; and rags to wipe the bottom of the milk container (taken from the doorstep) with sterile spray before putting it in the fridge! All little habits that help!!

think folks - what is it that you do?
Frugally forward to the planet of money saving!!

    2nd attempt.

I just changed utility suppliers today because I was so exasperated with the Co op. Now moved to Flow. So refreshing not to have the heavy sell and a nice calm changeover.

Save about £30 but delighted I don't have to listen to crackly music and being kept waiting on the phone forever and a day!

What a night last night with MSE, I too was told that I had 'timed out', clicked ok and it was ok for a few posts and then came up again. Some pages wouldn't work at all so I gave up!

The only MM&M I have done recently is to read a second hand book, it is great and has gripped me from the start. I may have a life once I have finished it!

    Question for =Prinzessilein

I'm only on page 105 of this thread but I love it here!

I made Princessilein's ginger cake yesterday and it is gorgeous. I wanted to ask how long it would keep for (not in the freezer)? I made 2 as per recipe and we're eating one and I'd like to keep the other for Sunday when we're going out visiting, would it still be ok by then do you think, or should I go down the freezer route?

Thanks to all for the fab recipes and general help and niceness. x

Does Prinzessilein not come on this thread anymore? Perhaps someone else has made this cake and can answer please?

  • Me too since 7 this morning when I first logged in, it's a real inconvenience when you try to post and it is just not letting me, I hope it gets sorted out soon, not good at all!

Hi- I am pretty sure that Viv answered this post but as all the gremlins are on overtime today- may I just add that the cake will benefit from being wrapped in tin foil and stored in a tin ( not plastic)

Remember to save me a slice when I pop in for tea!

Thank you very much Janb5. I'll have to make another cake for when you visit, the one for us has already been eaten! :p
