If not where else or different brand any cheaper??? :A I have a mind to re vamp old 1970s table MDF with thin layer of wood (whatever thats called - mind gone blank - ah yes veneer!) but v sturdy + cant afford a new one!

what was I doing cruising posh shops you may well ask ????? Well, to be frank, I was pinching ideas as I had a spare hour out that way before the next student :)

There are recipes for chalk paint on the shabby chic thread.

AS is really good stuff though - i used one and a half litres on a triple wardrobe and a bookcase, two coats on each. it goes on like a dream and is idiot proof :p - no prep, just a quick clean and start painting.

    Warning - it's addictive

I bought a cheaper version of chalk paint and it's really rubbish. Not at all hard wearing. I am going to have to go back to a soft sheen coloured gloss on my kitchen cupboards and lesson learned for me is that when I finally get round to do the bedroom furniture I will be investing in Annie S.

VJs did you stipple the AS paint, roller or brush it on?

I brushed it on - but i did experiment on a chair where you can see brush marks on the seat part.

i have an old bathroom cabinet and i am going to experiment for a bit with rollering and with the easy surface prep, emulsion and varnish and also experiment with danish oil on the top. I have loads of furniture i want to do (really nothing is safe now in my house :D) so i feel a bit of experimenting won't go amiss.

After chatting about chalk paint this morning I got a got cross with myself for wasting money on paint to fix what I thought was a mess on the kitchen cupboard fronts.

I got the paint out and gave it a second coat. So pleased I did. It's covered beautifully.

    Surfaces before:

    and now:

I need to clear varnish it for durability but it's looking so much better now. Thanks for chatting about it! All for a little time and effort plus 2 sets of paint. I like MMMing :)

I love the name Catherine - I was in school with a Catherine and she was lovely. yeah, shorten it to Cat! that's what my friend told people to call her for short.
I hate my name being shortened - its Carol and I cant stand being called Car! everybody does it though and I have learned to live with it.

My middle name is Carole - because I was born at Christmas :D
