What a day! I'm becoming very popular all of a sudden job 700 came through the door today. I have over 36 jobs to do! It's gone crazy.
When DGD is at her Mums tomorrow night I will be working at the shop as late as I can. I will have to work over the weekend as well, for the next two weeks at least.
I will need help sooner rather then later.
Tonight I shall be watching the Sewing Bee
And doing some paperwork organising to get it on the laptop.
I bought two files today, so I am ready to get organised.
No news from the kids. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Babysitter pitched up, so actually I went back into work and did two of the jobs I had to do. Still had a man knocking on the door asking me if I can do his jacket at 8 o'clock at night.
So I need to catch up on my sewing bee and paperwork as well.
There is quite a red sunrise peeping through my windows this morning.
Weird dreams abounded, dreamt my Dad's kitchen roof collapsed, except I realise it's not his house that was in my dream, although the facts about the new caravan was true, and another dream about helping the cobbler etc, but different surroundings. I dreamt I was asked to cut keys, but I refused as the shards of metal would be no good for wedding dresses etc!!! How bazzare! My subconscious does play some weird games with me.
I had a cup of tea at 10.30 when I got in and regretted it when I was up to the loo 4 times in the night. I didn't get back to sleep very quickly either, as brain wouldn't switch off from things.
Needless to say it was off and running just before 6 this morning, with everything I need to tackle.
DGD is going to her Mums today, so we need to pack her bag. They will collect her from Afterschool club, get the bag off of me at work.
I will work as late as I need too, so taking something to microwave to eat so I can work uninterrupted by tummy rumbling or the urge to go and spend anything! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Sounds like you need to make a blind for the door and not answer! Also sounds like you need to ignore strange men (or anyone else you don't know) knocking on your door at 8 at night, for your own safety..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I agree with Errata. If the shop says closed then I'm afraid it should remain closed. You won't lose the customer, they'll just have to come back when you're open. They are just chancing their luck at you opening the door if they see a light on. Perhaps try adding an extra sign whilst working on premises saying "Please do not disturb as busy at work. Call back during regular opening hours" or words to such effect0

I honestly don't think extra signage is needed, signage needs to be clear and concise and easily understood by everyone - Closed means closed.
All department stores and supermarkets are closed for a period and passers by aren't banging on their doors if they see staff working inside......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

The whole front of the shop would need a blind!
Worked through till 8.30 at work this evening. Two people paid for the 6 week course next week.
Then I came home and have typed up the instructions for tomorrow's course.
Now it's a glass of wine and a but of TV then bed. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Stayed up watching TV too late!
I needed wind down time. But will I live to regret it? At least this morning I only have me to get ready.
Thoughts please, on this one.
Several items have come in to be worked on that are really just filthy. There is no word better to describe them. It is not pleasant to work on such stuff. Last night I actually brought two items home and washed/dried them as I was not going to work on them. How can I politely tell people that I will not repair dirty items in the future? Can I put up a sign to say if garments are not in a clean condition I can either refuse to do them, or will charge for them to be taken to the dry cleaners across the road??
It is not the first time that I have had really disgusting things in to work on, and it is not fair to expect me to have to handle them. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hello
I have a shop too, I agree with the comment on personal safety, I never answer the door to a stranger especially if I've started the cash up, but that said I will let people in if I recognise them. Like yesterday, a regular was knocking on my door at ten to nine for a coffee. She has to be at work by 9 (easy hop in her car) so if I didn't serve her I'd miss out on £2.70 a day just for the sake of keeping to my operating hours. Likewise if you've had a bad day and can afford to do it I often keep my door open for another hour whilst I pack down to catch the odd £ here and there. I think that's the main difference being a small business, you triumph or fail on the personal touch. Anyway sorry to hijack your diary but I wanted to respond.

Agreed, I'd say the people are being cheeky & abusing your services. Its not hard for them to chuck it through the wash before bringing it in, especially if its that important that they are wanting it repaired/altered.
Who accepted the items in, your staff member? I'm not sure a sign is necessary but I'd say a polite word should be had with the customer before accepting the job ( & training & memory jogger post it on the booking in book for staff), something along the lines of "we will need to make an additional cleaning charge for this and if other repairs are revealed they will be completed and charged accordingly or if you'd like to take it back & wash it first I'll make a note that we are to expect it for repair/alteration".
If needs be spin a line that repairs/alterations take much better on freshly clean items as I'm sure it will be particular offenders, they won't know better as they are asking you to do it.- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted
