I was going to ask for a spoiler alert notice when you mentioned the Sewing Bee, :D as I've downloaded it on my laptop but am waiting for my dd to be available to watch it with me. I haven't done any sewing in a few weeks so I hope it kick starts me again!

Always err on the side of caution with de-cluttering: don't you find you don't use something for years and the minute you get rid of it.... you need it! :(

Well I would say only one item in a hundred I have de-cluttered did I ever subsequently think "I could do with that now" and if I had kept it, along with the other 100 things, I would never have been able to find it when I need it and it probably cost less than a tenner to replace vs mega loss of stress by getting rid of the excess stuff spilling all over the place.
The fear of " I might need it one day " is one of the biggest causes of clutter (clutter being stuff you don't love/ or actually use other than in a fantasy in your head)
In my experience, just having things you utterly love/give you joy to behold leads to a simpler life = more energy.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Downloaded the Mari Konda book. Will get into it tonight, maybe that will get me going.
I made a skirt with some of my 60's stash, alongside my pupil yesterday.
I miss the making side of work.
I won't mention the sewing bee again till you catch up!

Went out for a walk around a local farm that has a tea room etc, a few odd animals, and some Yurts!
Oh DGD likes the idea of Glamping!
Although as it's only 5 minutes from home maybe not a holiday to fork out on.
Biggest of Mooloo came over with her Partner and her two cats for me to look after. Her Landlady has threatened to evict them if they didn't get rid of the cats. Do with a baby on the way, they can't risk being homeless like DS and his GF are!
So I'm care taking the cats for a few months at least. We will see what happens when their lease is up.
I have been reading the Decluttering book, and am slowly picking things up and putting them away, or in the bin, and caught myself thinking "does this make my heart sing?" Every time I touch something! Even though I haven't really taken the bull by the horns and started decluttering. I wish I could take a weekend off and do it, but I have to work.
I have put away the clean washing, folding in a different way, and emptied DGDs drawers and reput in the stuff we are keeping, and found her missing school tops under the back of the drawers.

Yes, but as I read the Konmari thread, I realised that I have very few possessions compared to other people (minimalist I think ;)) and I'm also a serial de-clutterer (I'm sure of it :rotfl:)
    So that's my excuse! :D

Mooloo, do mention the sewing bee! Don't censor yourself on my account! I've caught up with the first episode now. Very interesting! They seem to have nicer fabrics this year.

AH, you have walked the walk, therefore can talk the talk: where's the bowing down and I'm not worthy smilie when you need it? :D
I mistook you for a clutter bug hanging on to everything for dear life, lol.

    I'm the clutter bug!
Not quite the horder of TV programme proportions, but I am terrible.
I have moved house 39 times. Always a reason to clear out, but I always managed to bring stuff with me. But as this is nearly the longest I gave ever lived in my life, it's getting rather too full!
My deep seated need to hang on to things comes from my always having to get rid of everything as a child.
Then the lack of money meant that I wouldn't want to let go of things that may be useful, save me money, or make me money!
So that's where my hording comes from I suppose.
So if I am to declutter, the subconscious mind needs tackling first.
I will get there at my own pace. But I have to tackle the fear first!!!
    Silly as it sounds.
My target is to stick to the slowly slowly method at the moment.
As I can't deal with any added stress as I know stress sends me back into Knotted muscles, pain spasms, etc
But I am slowly picking things up, and either throwing them out, putting them for sale, or giving to charity, or keeping them - at the moment.

    Morning!
Was planning on getting up at 7 this morning, but my internal clock woke me at 6.10 so I've checked my email, shuffled the bank balances, read the Facebook notifications, and read my horescope!! Made my cup of tea, and am still all tucked up in bed!
I was amazed to notice that the dresser top which is usually piled high with clutter is starting to look tidier and you can see parts of it again! I must be picking up bits and pieces and disposing of them without really realising I was starting to do that! Whoa!!
I read up to chapter 4 in the declutter book just before I went to bed.
I still will need serious time to make any dents in the house though.
Until I can find that time I will have to just plod on though.
I woke up thinking about my piles of costume jewellery. My horescope mentions looking at another aspect to my job. Do you think it's worth trying to add costume jewellery into the second hand section, ( by that I mean flogging off my surplus that's any good!?)
Once upon a time I wore masses of bracelets, rings, and earrings. I also have lots of necklaces, although not so many as the bracelets as I would have panic attack and break them trying to get them off in a hurry! ( long story but at the age of 14 I was nearly strangled by a drunk army lad- and things up around my neck have been a problem for the last 40 years) although I suppose in the last 5 or so I have had less issues.
Right time to drink that tea, and launch into the day. Go and see what the cats have been upto in their first night here, and hope Larry hadn't been sick anywhere again! He was sick as soon as he ate his dinner last night!! :(

  • Mooloo Costume jewellery, if you have it and you don't want it then put it in the shop, you don't have to charge the earth for it. Look at what the charity shops locally are charging and go just above that.

If you have any small cushions use those to display it, one in the window will hopefully attract new customers.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

It doesn't sound silly at all Mooloo! I am the opposite. If I have too many things around me, it I have clutter, if the room I'm sitting in is too untidy, it stresses me out. It's funny, I visit other people's house who have lots of bits and bobs around and I find them homely and comfortable (apart from one neighbour who is definitely a hoarder!) but I can't stand it in my own home. I'm sure I have some sort of condition!

39 moves in your lifetime! Wow!

And yes, I think you should try and sell your costume jewellery. Let's face it: it will cost you nothing extra to try and you could make some money :)
