It's a strange day. Got up about 7.30, at a leisurely pace. Left the house around 9.20 to collect the safe key from staff, and then did the banking before opening the shop. DGD got cosy in the workshop with pillows and duvets etc and I sorted out the alterations, working my way through as many of the jobs as I could, before closing at 2. By then DGD was restless, and had been there long enough.
This afternoon we have stayed close to home, and I have been keeping an eye on my back, and done some sorting etc. Made some soup with the bottom of the fridge stuff, and a spaghetti Bol for tea.
DGD is playing in the bath. Definitely a prune now. She's been in there over an hour! She is alive I can see and hear her from my chair as bathroom is downstairs. I have also thrown out some things on declutter February, and put one item up for sale on the Facebook car boot page.
I have some curtains back with me to sew, if I can spread them out enough. They are not urgent jobs but they need to be done non the less. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
:oIt's my turn not to feel very well again! Feel very sick again!
Something has to change as our immune systems seem to be shot.
I still have a sign up saying open 10-2 at work, so actually rushing isn't so urgent except for the fact that I will be loosing customers if I am not open, and I'm worried about the business, Nevermind the cash flow.
DGD is also on a go slow. Normally she is at breakfast club by now. That's not going to happen today. I have the electrician coming to the shop to change the meter between 12-2 today. Sitting there without the heat, or power for a few hours is not appealing.
Today is a struggle then! Here is hoping we start to feel better soon. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Well the electrician was a very nice man who arrived a little early, worked quickly, and the meter was changed within the hour. I was able to come home just after 1pm. When I went to bed for an hour before I collected DGD from school. Walked to school for the fresh air, but I'm exhausted to be honest!
So I've declared the rest of the afternoon as a lazy one in front of the TV with a blanket and heat pad. Look and feel like an old lady today! Not good.
Here is hoping that tomorrow will be a better one, as it's a long day, as I'm teaching in the evening!
So I better be better by the morning.
I still need to do my declutter challenge and ditch 4 things! - in a bitWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Morning! I literally did not do anything yesterday evening except heat the tea and make some brownie mix with DGD. I still have the washing up to do this morning. I was in bed reading around 8pm and lights out about half past. I slept until about 12.30am waking suddenly but not sure why. It wasn't long before I was back to sleep though. I was awake at 6 this morning. I've been catching up with emails, bank balances and the like, and two cups of tea. But I do feel much better then I did yesterday, which is a relief!
That's my alarm, so it's time to wake DGD and get her ready for school.
Here is hoping that I will have a better day today, and that I get to catch up on the jobs in, etc and it would be nice to get a few sales in the clothing section!
I'm not sure if I will have staff today or not, as her little lad was still poorly yesterday. So I need to be organised and focused on all aspects not just the sewing.
My laptop has a problem and won't fire up so I am struggling to do the accounts. I may need to get a new one! Eek.
Try and find a local repairs person first though! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Mooloo, do make sure you have a backup for the files which matter on your laptop: if it dies, you do not want to be without them!
I save everything I care about on mine to Google Drive, every time I edit any of them.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sound advice from Sue, and when I was SE I was so paranoid about losing/not being able to access IT accounts and records every week I copied to an external hard drive and also printed some of them off. Regular housekeeping of running a business is always time well spent..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

A lot of my stuff is online. All my accounts are online. And some documents are on OneDrive. It's not as organised as is like, but I am getting there. I think that I need to do better still though!
At least I can access some things via the mobile phone and the Kindle ( if I can get it out of DGD's sticky little mits! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Morning, from a chilly start. I've nipped downstairs and put the heating on, made tea and brought it up to bed. While things warm up. I forgot to set the stuff out up here last night. The day was a quiet one, only a few people in to collect their things, and one secondhand sale of £3.
My staff is now sick herself. So it was just me. But I did crack on with several of the awkward jobs. Met one of the ladies who makes soft furnishings, she popped in for some ribbon. I explained I wasn't a habadashery but if I had it, then I'd sell it to her. £2 then for a reel of ribbon. We had a chat, once she had said who she was. She said she doesn't like doing alterations, and I said even though I was working on some curtains at the time, that I don't like curtains. She said she'd bring down her cards, as I am happy to point people in her direction if customers want curtains done.
A few new people came in for a look and to ask about lessons. So we can hope it will generate income eventually.
The evening was a mad dash back to work to teach.
Both ladies have chosen the same pattern again, so that makes it easier to teach. I will just draught out the correct sizes for them ready for next week.
So a long day. Getting home just before 10pm
Which means I didn't get to watch the sewing bee, had to record it, and I didn't get to do all my decluttering that I'd wanted. Although I had made a start in the morning before the school run.
I will double up my efforts tonight. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I hope that the Great British Sewing Bee being back on BBC will inspire people to learn to sew and you can get some extra learners!LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Yesterday ended up being another long day. I was awake at 6am, although I tried to go back to sleep, I gave up by 6.30, made my tea, etc and actually pottered about and gathered a few things for the bin etc After the school run I went into work, still no staff, so I continued with curtains etc on her desk. Finally managed to catch up with those lurking kind of jobs. The zips I'd ordered arrived, so things progressed quite well. I was concerned that the weeks takings had only been £60 to bank at 9.30, but at 3.30 I was able to dash to the bank and pay in another £170 as people came out to collect their work. Not a fortune but with snow threatening, icey mornings etc, then a visit to me isn't really a priority.
At just after 4pm I had a carer come in who needed a kaftan copied for an 90 year old lady with dementia. She was down to two, and wouldn't wear anythingelse. So I draughted out a pattern and cut one out before I came home, and brought it with me to make up at home.
Dinner was a lamb stew in the Thermal Cooking Bag. It had cooked down by 6 as it was out on at 8am, but while I cooked the potatoes I just put it back on the stove to heat through again. It was yummy!
After eating I caught up on the sewing bee from the night before.
The army gentleman seems to be a good contender for the winner so far!
Then I gathered my stuff and made the kaftan, so that was my evening gone. It was around 10 when I came up to bed. Although I was reading etc until around 11
I woke several times, my mind won't switch off!
And I woke again at 6 this morning, and tried to go back to sleep, but my busy mind had other ideas. I've had my first cup of tea, read my emails, but am still sitting in bed.
There is less rush as I don't have to get DGD ready to go out. The sitter will come here.
mFin3, talked about a decluttering method on her thread last night, and put a link to a thread on here, so I started to read it, have subscribed to it,,who knows it could revolutionise my life! If I get passed the fear of letting stuff go! Which I need to do, but panic at the thought of. Perhaps I will just have to take it slowly! But the way they fold and store clothes seems quite interesting. So I'm up for having a go at that one anyway. Which will mean sorting out my clothes drawers etc. So another job to tack onto my evenings before I settle each day.
I really am a horder of stuff! If I can let it go.... Then that would be good. Perhaps it will help my mind somewhat. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
