DGD has bad earache, and now is showing signs of a temperature so a bit of an ENT infection I think. We have a doctors appointment at 11.15
So I have had to pop down to the shop and put a note on the Door about shorter opening times 10-2 when staff can cover. Got the till out of the safe for her, put the heater on as it's bitter, and then I've brought work home to do.
I'm just having a cup of tea to warm back up, and then I'm going upstairs to reclaim my work room from a storage room, and get working up there again.
DGD had a good weekend with her Mum, they went to Salcey Forest, to walk the Grufalo Trail etc
The BF has passed his driving test, and Got his Dad's car, so they actually ventured out somewhere!
It could make a lot of difference to them, and if he can get more permanant work rather then short contracts then having a car can be a huge bonus.

Biggest of Mooloos popped by this afternoon, she's not too well either. She brought me over some shoes that I had bought on EBay, and my niece had collected for me. She had dropped them off at the shop, and then popped here and had some lunch with us.
DGD is poorly, but thank goodness we don't think it's a perforated eardrum.
She has ear drops and Calpol.
I spent the afternoon sewing in my workroom upstairs here at home.
    So not all is lost.
Tomorrow we will be at home the same and the staff will do the shop.
Hopefully after that DGD will be better, at least enough to come to the shop with me on Wednesday.

I'm struggling to get motivated today. Procrastination seems to have taken hold of me. Staff tell me the shop is very quiet. She has changed the window etc for me, dealt with a few queries but on the whole she said it's quiet and no sales today.
I have some curtains to do, one more pair of trousers and the last table runner. Yet I keep putting it off and washing up, putting washing on, and that sort of thing.
I'm fighting myself! How rediculous is that.
I should be working, instead we are watching TV, playing on electrical gadgets and surfing around on the net!!!
    Procrastination at its worst!

That was posted 20 mins ago and your green light is still on. B*gger off missus :naughty:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

mooloo what about making some easter stuff?, be prepared and all that
  • I think the green light stays on unless you actually log off. I am permanently 'logged in' to MSE even when I shut my computer down.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

mooloo - it will take time for you to work out when your busy and quiet periods are. Cashflow will vary through the year. However, remember that you can use the quiet periods to create the stock you need to sell during busy periods. It will balance out eventually. You may even find that at certain times of the year you can reduce your hours or days in the shop without any real impact, particularly if people can contact you by email/phone to book times to bring in their alterations for fitting.

Reduced shop opening hours during January & February would also help to lower the heating bill.

Morning, I wasn't still on, I posted and went.
I think I automatically close down etc, so maybe it takes a while if I'm not logging out. It also shows me a red light when I'm actually here posting at times, very strange.
Although I didn't do anything of much consequence yesterday.

I did expect/plan for it to be quieter, and was looking forward to making things in the quiet times. I was hoping that the secondhand section would help keep it buoyant. However it's still early days and it will take time. I shall review things as we go along. I don't really want to chop and change the hours, but it would help with heating etc
I think my problem was the fact that I was at home and therefore I didn't have to do things, and therefore never really got started.
I do suffer with the SAD, And think that has kicked in with not getting out into the sunlight, and not having to put on a face for the world.
I think DGD is on the mend, she was protesting last night when I told her she had to get up in the morning for school. She came back into my room like a little actress on stage, with sudden change in her actions and face. Hard not to laugh at her. But I shall take her in, and ask them to call me if she does appear to be worse. I think she is already good at pulling a fast one though! I don't doubt she did have earache, but it has definitely got better as she wasn't asking for her medicine or for the hot water bottle to be refilled, and was chatting away to herself and the games she was playing yesterday.
I didn't fill the travel kettle last night, so I need to get up and go wack up the heating, and make a cup of tea.
I've been on the iPhone 30 minutes already.
    Well that time shot by!

Had a busy day today. Even though I had closed on the door at 12oclock, I had several customers rattling the doors so naturally I served them.
I did several rush jobs, small jobs and it was gone 3pm before I escaped.
I did a repair for the dry cleaners, I did a school coat that had it's hood pulled off. I advised on a zip. I booked in a child to Saturday's lesson.
I removed and closed up the openings on pockets on two pairs of trousers. I did two trouser fittings. I repaired a split seam in a skirt. All in the last 3 hours!
I'm going to have a snack and a well needed cuppa, and maybe do some other jobs here.
Tomorrow will be back to normal I hope.
