Google slow cooker recipes - loads out there! An American blog called a 'year of crock pot recipes' is very entertaining. My friend who is a slow cooker whizz uses it a lot for ideas. I wouldnt be without my slow cooker
One thing to remember with slow cooker is that it requires A LOT LESS liquid in any recipe you might want to adapt - I cook chilli, bologese, etc etc in vast quantities for freezing but only use about a quarter of the liquid I would if doing it on the stove top. Anybody contemplating buying a slow cooker should maybe consider one with a 'crock' that can be heated on the cooker rather than the ceramic ones - I keep willing mine to break so I can justify buying one!
I love that webiste too, it seems that the American's have embraced the slow cooker a lot more than the Brits. I've got one of the Morphy Richards ones that has the no stick pot you can use on the hob to brown any meat before cooking and it was less that £20 on amazon.
Birdie, maybe you can persuade hubby to get a slow cooker with the promise of pulled pork? It worked on my OH! I also love putting a whole chicken in with some potatoes, carrots and onions and letting it cook away. The meat just falls off the bone and is a lot juicier than when I roast it.
Just realised I have a chilli in my slow cooker today!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -

I'm afraid I haven't done anymore running since I signed upIn the winter my aim is to run Saturday and Sunday, and swim one evening. I also have lots of dogs to walk everyday. Trying to stir myself to go swimming today but the snow/ice is proving toouch of an excuse and I keep staying in everyday!

Thank you! My DH looooooves pulled pork so I'm sure I could convince him with that! I just want to come home and not worry about making anything but having something more sensible than a sandwich!I think I'm going to order this one as our other appliances are red so at least when it's out it won't stand out too much and offend him, and it has good reviews!
Hope you do manage to get to the ice rink at least a couple of times a month Dinah, sounds like a wonderful way to burn some calories and have some 'me' time, which is well deserved!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. Roller or ice Dinah?
Ice. I broke my front tooth years ago rollerblading and it sort of scared me off!Hi, I would like to join please...need to lose about 7 stone...not looking forward to weigh in Jan 2nd!
Good luck all!
I'm not sure any of us are.. but at least I'm looking forward to the one after that!
We got this one Birdie, I have to say the ability to brown things in the same pan and just transfer it straight to the slow cooker has meant I use it a lot more than the old one... I couldn't see the point of the slow cooker before if I still had dirty pans to clean as well!
I was playing about with numbers to check the spreadsheet is working last night and I'm terrified, my goal is to lose nearly 1/3 of my body weight, or about 2 of my older child, or 4 of my younger one! That seems such a terrifying extra weight to carry about when I struggle to carry my toddler for long as she's so heavy.. and I want to lose the equivalent of 2 of her!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I would like to get down to 9st as I am rather petite and I think at 9st I would be a size 10/12.
Looks like we have the same goal, Fmess!
Could you mark me down on the challenge too please, Dinah? Don't know if anyone remembers my NYR from last year, but I'm sad to report I did not meet my goal weight of 400lbI didn't even make it half way, but I did put on 2 stone with pizza and buffets. It was awesome, fun, beautiful and delicious but OH and I have both agreed to lose weight in 2015. So this thread will be extra motivation
I'm currently 173lb (chubbiness is awesome!) but aiming for 130lb. So 43lb loss in total? Don't know what % that is.
Will look up that blog, Igamogam! We bought a bigger slow cooker in the sales, so our plan is to make lots of yummy and healthier teas in that during the week. We also got a nutribullet (I work with two people who label themselves "clean" eaters, and they swear by them - so I know it's not just hype!) so we're planning on juices for breakfasts and with dinner so we can get loads of veggies into our lives. We also have an Aldi opening in our town in about a week so we're hoping to do it on an MSE budget0 -
I'd like to join in please
The figure I report on a Wednesday will be from a Monday weigh in (works best for me and my routine - unless I'm away for a long weekend of which I have 3 planned for the year, in which case I weigh in on a Tuesday!), but the loss will still almost always be from a 7 day period so like others can't see why that should be a problem.
I haven't been on my scales for a couple of months, but from the weight I was then I need to (re)lose 2.5 stone and it's likely to be even more now! I work on a half-pound a week rate of loss (find cutting the calories lower than that leaves me hungry, which then sees me binge eating!) so don't expect to either get a biggest loser award or reach target in 2015 (although I just might make the latter as I do have some weeks where I lose more than my target rate, and the first week back to counting often sees a bigger loss).
I also need to monitor saturated fat intake, having told the GP where to put the statins she tried to force on me as I prefer to control my cholesterol level through diet (level had dropped from previous test when a different GP was happy to just continue monitoring and since when I'd done a lot of research, so it was an informed decision), and sugar intake as I've been identified as being high risk for type 2 diabetes (so I also record my fasting blood sugar level on a Monday morning).Cheryl0 -
Ok, ok, you've got me on the alliteration of Weekly Wednesday Weigh-in. But then in that case, why is the first weigh-in on a Friday?? Should we not give our start weight tomorrow?
Anyway. Perhaps I'm over-thinking it all
Didn't meet my PT the other day (yesterday? What day is it anyway?) - but hoping to catch up with him on Fri.
Ruby - how do you do a whole chicken in a slow cooker?? Do you just stick it in?? Sounds delicious. Also love the idea of those ones you can use on the hob as well - you can't with ours, but it's a good idea for Dad's birthday pressie in March!
CW18 - sat fats are something I've been thinking about lately too. I get so anxious at work that my heart starts hammering and then I worry that my arteries are all clogged up from all the Pringles and I'm going to have a coronary
Dinah - 1/3 of your body weight?! Jeez Louise there'll be nothing left of you! I've worked mine out at 1/6 of my body weight to lose which is daunting enough!!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Are you lovely people going to put your weight loss in your signature? I was thinking about using initials and ended up with TUBi (yep, missed off the L as it made me giggle!)...
Reckon I'll weigh myself tomorrow, to start on a weds.
Many thanks to Dinah for setting this up and running it. xxNST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
I'm looking forward to officially getting started. My main downfall is chocolate, especially in the evenings. I can be fine and determined all day, pop to get some milk from the shop of an evening and end up with 2 chocolate bars then realise what I have done halfway through eating the 2nd one!!
We're nearly ready to get going, so what are we all planning on doing to get to our targets? I have a Fitbit Flex so can count my steps daily, I plan on upping my daily target on that. I also have a cross trainer that will be used as more than just a clothes holder and I will be doing the 30 day shred (on Youtube, so free) but it will be a 90 day shred to start with as last time I did 1 day and was in agony for about a week.
I usually weigh myself in kg, not because I know what x amount of kg is in stones but because I can see a weight loss even when it's only 100g. I think it's cheating though!LBM: 15/12/14 Debt @ LBM: £21,560.51/£20,835.29 Number of creditors: 51/47DFD: 26.04.2018!
