Hi, all. I saw a feature in a magazine about making a child's bedroom festive and that was enough to set my imagination off. I have a smallish, spare bedroom which has to be multi purpose (grandchildren sleep there and two babies will be sleeping there one day a week come January, my daughter uses it as an office when she visits with the children, for peace and quiet etc.). So, down comes the Laura Ashley Summer Palace (duck egg) bedding and curtains to be put back again come Spring, and up go the blue, white and red stuff to be supplemented with more actual Christmassy bits nearer the time. I have always had white walls there so it makes it easy to ring the changes.
Anyway, I have some lovely throws, some cream coloured flannelette bedding and some nice canvases to put up this afternoon. My friends also sleep in the room when they come to stay and, one in particular is coming at the beginning of December. She is as Christmas crazy as I am so I always put out nice bits to welome her, e.g. a lovely dressing gown and slippers, a hot water bottle, toiletries, fluffy towels, festive cushions, chocolates etc. Can you think of anything else I can put in the room to make her feel at home. I always leave water but would like something a bit different maybe. A flask of hot chocolate maybe?0 -
Afternoon all...only 6 weeks to go now!!!
I've been so busy this week so haven't been able to post but I've caught up
I had a shocker this week and accidentally stepped on the new angel topper we bought, luckily it wasn't too expensive - stupid woman!
Nothing too Christmassy to report...we've been organising the house whilst listening to Blissmass though so I'm keeping up the festive spirit. We've watched a few Christmas films too now but I like to wait until December to watch my favourite ones.
The big Christmas tree has gone up in Leadenhall market in London but still no lights!!!
Oh and I don't know if you've all seen the Sainsbury's advert but it has my 2 favourite things: cats and Christmas so I love it
I had my appointment at the eye hospital on Wednesday and they said I'll have to wait for it to recover more before I can have laser...looks like it will be spec-tacular this Christmas for me - see what I did there
Hope you all have lovely weekends and I shall revert on Monday to see how everyone is doing!I'm dreaming... of a white Christmas :snow_grin :xmassmile:rudolf:0 -
Amaz@n have Lego Dimensions starter set for ps3/Xbox 360 down to £54.99. Cheapest I've found.
Now just to decide whether to give it to dd2 this year, or hold it back till next year. It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -
If anyone needs chocolate oranges, I noticed that all flavours are currently £1 (exploding candy, original, dark, honeycomb) in Mr T though I'm not sure how long the offer is on for.
Our Christmas market starts tomorrow for the next almost-6 weeks and whilst it is lovely and makes the whole place smell festive, it halves the amount of space on the pavements just as the numbers of shoppers increases so it also does my head in!
Will have to try and get in soon to have a mulled wine and a hotdog while I watch everyone else run around like crazy people :rotfl:0 -

Evening. Hope you are all having a good Friday.
I'm so excited, infact I may have already said but don't think I have been on. But I got a job. I have been searching for the perfect job to do with 3 kids. Finally I got one last week. It's as a catering assistant (dinner lady) in a local school. Working 11:30-2:30 with the option to start earlier. Means I will be home for the kids and be off every holiday :-) :-)
It's a permanent job too. I have struggled for years working in pubs and as a carer. Both meant I was out in the evening and weekends or early starts. Also unreliable shifts.
The only thing is the length of time it seems to take for the council to organise the paperwork, so it may be after Christmas before I start.
Picked up some books from The Book people. Got 12 Enid Blyton Mallory towers books for my DD, hope she likes them as I loved them all. and a huge All you need to know about Star Wars for my DS.
Also picked up a candle bridge with flickering lights from The Range today. I've always wanted a nice light at my hall window at Christmas.
Also got a couple of tartan throws for my couches, just £2.99 each.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

Evening everyone, i have had a lovely day, went with DD1 to swap her work car and on the way back we decided to pop into poundland, when we saw signs for The Range, so we decided to have a nosey in there first, we usually go to the one in town the other side of our village so knew this was fairly new, it had actually only been open 2 hours, it is really big and had some gorgeous home stuff, oh i need to win that lottery :rotfl:i got a pair of white glittery stags, one standing and one sitting for £5 (ideal for another craft project i have seen on pinterest, though will probably be next christmas now:D) some snow spray (i have this idea of spraying my real tree to look like a snowy one this year but a) not sure how it will look and if it sticks and b) not sure if it would be safe with Thumper being so little and getting into/touching everything, im worrying he would get some in his mouth) what do you all think? Then in Poundland i got my ceiling decs they only had 2 packets left so i was lucky, and some walnut whips
we were then feeling so christmassy with the christmas songs being played we decided to go to HB where i bought packs of pic n mix style sweets for the table presents, and bits like the foil turkey tray, doilies etc
MURIE aww thankyouyes not too bad slowly coming off 24lbs now. I hope your back feels a bit better today, that is why i have to do mine as i buy them, one christmas when the twins were babies and my DD1 was 2 i wrapped for hours and hours all at once and my back completely went i had to crawl to the toilet and my sister had to look after the kids for a couple of days because i was immobile, never again, lesson learnt
Yes i think that is it exactly, i was nearly in tears tonight over nothing, just completely silly and i think like you say we invest so much into it throughout the year, we are so organised and then we feel flat for some reason!
MJ132 sorry i cant help, i agree with kissmenow though about trying amazon
KISSMENOW and BREATHE........... :rotfl:you have plenty of time
WHITESATIN aww the grandkids will love a festive bedroom! The only other things i can think of for your friend is maybe a magazine/book? What a lovely thoughtful friend you are!
ELLIE oh no what a shame about your angel topper you shall just have to go back to The Range nowI hope your eye recovers enough between now and new year! I love the sainsburys advert, that got me teary as well :rotfl:
LAZYSHEEP ooh i love sipping on mulled wine while at a christmas market!
NIC congratulations on the new job! Perfect hours with the kids!

I say this year because if Lego dimensions is going to be anything like skylanders then there will be a brand new type out during the year! My son loves skylanders and yet another set has come out for Christmas! Wouldn't mind but you have to buy the starter set plus extra figures so ends up costing quite a bit. X0 -
Nic2075 Great news about the job!
Sounds ideal.
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.
