I agree, keep what you aren't comfortable in passing on, I to have stuff of my parents. Dad died 24 years ago next weekend and mum died 10 years ago in July and I have 2 boxes of mementoes plus my mums tea service. I have sorted through the things I kept over the last 3-4 years as I felt able but some things will always be kept.

  • Hi everyone:)

I think we should have a "fabulous feet week" :o
My reason.....I live on the south coast about 500mtrs from the beach. Saturday the weather was glorious blue skies and quite warm. So I went for a walk along the prom and :eek::eek::eek: to the people who have looked outside and thought 'Oh! I'll put my flip-flops on'. Oh my word......cracked heels, yellow toenails  and dry skin everywhere :rotfl:
I've already got the foot file, cream and cotton sox by the bed ready! :j
Just don't forget your feet ladies:o

Should have walked in the sand SG - free exfoliation & then paddle - salt water to soften & freezing cold to tone up :rotfl:

Haha! It's as if you know me Silva. I do usually, and I walk on the pebbles to massage my feet;) but the water was freeeeeezing on Saturday. It's actually it's warmest in about September.

Anyway I think there should be a new law.....

No flip-flops until you've sorted your feet! :rotfl:

That was something I worked on a couple of years ago. After years (probably decades) of dry, flaky skin and horrid toenails I pursued it with my GP. Over the years we'd tried all sorts of creams but they weren't a solution plus I'd tried loads of OTC remedies. Eventually referred to dermatology and I needed an oral antibiotic to sort it. It worked like magic on my skin almost overnight. Nails took longer as they had to grow out.

Now I really look after my feet. I have regular pedicures and cream them a few times a week.:)

Have started to sort my Mum And Dads bungalow. Have'nt felt up to it till now though Mum died last July. Still a bit emotional about clearing it but have to do it as they are asking for council tax and I've only just got all the forms back from the solicitor. Very stressful.

Sending you good thoughts as you get this done. Give yourself time for some tears and then some TLC.

I'm definitely with you on the neglected feet. The sights you see.
Surely those cracked heels must be sore.

My mother had/has the most terrible feet, badly deformed after years of wearing poorly fitting shoes. She was determined that my sister and I had good feet so went to great trouble to get our feet measured regularly and only bought us Clarkes shoes when we were little.

I often hated wearing my "beetle crushers" when I was a teenager but I am so grateful to her now. I have had compliments on my "pretty feet" ......don't know whether that's a :D: or a  I know some men do have foot fetishes........;)

There are some shocking photos of celebs who have damaged their feet, just google. I Am not surprised that Victoria Beckham doesn't seem to smile much, judging by her feet, the poor woman must be in agony half the time.

Foot binding was made illegal in China, and whilst we aren't that bad here, some of our western practices regarding footwear aren't that much better.

A podiatrist gave me some good advice.

Alternate the types of shoes you wear. Apparently completely flat shoes are just as bad in the long term as stilettos so you should vary heel heights. Stilettos should be just for going out and not all day wear.

At least it's a good excuse to buy lots of nice shoes.:rotfl::rotfl:

We should also be doing daily calf stretches to avoid plantar fascitis - heel Spurs. Of course I didn't find that one out until I already had a heel spur but through careful management and daily exercises my heel spur is now fine. I had a special board made for me that I had to stand on a couple of times a day. It did the trick.

The podiatrist gave me a warning which I thought was brilliant and which we should all heed, especially those of us who are mothers and grandmothers who are responsible for the feet of little ones.

He said - "if the worst comes to the worst and you lose your teeth you can get new ones, you cannot get new feet".

    How true;)

Feeling much better today. Have passed my lurgy to DS2 so it's my turn to nurse him a bit and give him some TLC. He was brilliant at looking after me at the weekend and that's the thanks he gets.:o

I've had to stay away from my parents of course. Apparently neither of them are too good at the moment either.

Roll on spring. I did manage to sit in the garden for a few minutes on Sunday. It was nice to feel a bit of sun on my face. It looks nice out today so I might have a little potter in the garden.

    Have a good day.

I hate doing my feet. Does anybody have one of these things?

    Just lazy, really.

I went to the dentist this morning, whilst I was there asked about an old filling which is at the side of my mouth. I can see it in the mirror when I smile and am a bit self conscious about it because it's silver - I would like it replacing in white. She said it would need to be done privately and reckoned about £100. So I am going to save up and then before I have the next big photographic event (e.g. I get married or something) I will have it done.

£18 on Amazon at the moment. Some good deals on damaged box ones from Amazon warehouse including £12.76 for a Pedisure one. They all work in a similar way. I have the other one, the Micropedi. I do like it, you have to be slow and gentle and yes you could do the same job with a good hand held file. You have to use it regularly and use urea based cream too. Mine were cracked and sore, took a couple of weeks of daily sand and cream to sort and now I just maintain weekly.

Good for you! I had a mouthful of amalgam fillings that needed replacing & I had them all redone in white & I'm so glad I did - that was nearly 20 years ago!
I suffer from cracked heels if I'm not careful & its blinking painful. I use an Avon hand cream that's like Neutrogena ( I think its been discontinued but I have a stock ;)) & massage it into my heels & feet. If you spend a lot of your day on your feet look after them!
