  • Not very MSE but I paid for a personal analysis to find out my colours and body shape and for some advice on what to wear. The colours I agree with but I'm not sure about the clothes she recommends. Apparently I'm apple shape (whenever I've looked at these I've never been able to work it out) and should be wearing flowing type clothes but I think they make me look bigger! Will have to go shopping and give them another try. Not sure it was worth £30 as I expected more :(

Have ordered quite a lot of stuff from La Redoute (please don't tell me they are rubbish!) so looking forward to getting them this week and finding a few things I like. I just feel horrible in everything I have at the moment.

    Hi all

Going to try and come back to this thread more regularly :)

Went to see my horse this morning and to answer your question maman I wear a pair of long waterproof country boots - these ones today:

    $_12.JPG?set_id=880000500F

with jeans and a black ski jacket. Add "horse" anywhere to the description of an item and you can double the cost so I buy ski wear from TK Maxx and it is waterproof, warm and a fraction of the price. I have ski pants for when it's ridiculously cold. My hat isn't quite so stylish, it is a fleece lined knitted jobby with a pompom on a string and ear flaps. :rotfl:

I showered when I got home and am now wearing my black jeans that don't fit well (but I don't want to replace them until I've lost weight) with a black t-shirt and black hoody because it's cold.

I've had to chop my nails right down because I broke one (below the quick) so now it has grown up enough I took it off and shortened the rest. Makes my fingers look stubby but thankfully they grow fast.

I tint my eyelashes but I keep wanting to buy a mascara to top up with during the week. Any recommendations?
  • DD265 can I ask where you get these boots from and are they very expensive. I do lots of dog walking and find my wellies can b cold and uncomfortable at times.

I'm being lazy today. Showered, hair washed but not styled n no makeup! But it is Sunday and I'm not going out the house

They were about £130 if I recall correctly but not available where I bought them from any more.

    Can get them here though:

The Dublin range comes highly recommended too (I have two pairs of the Edge boots) and I think they are all designed to be waterproof. These guys have a good selection:

Butterscotch - have a look at Marks and Spencer's style adviser online. You log in and answer some questions then they work out which clothes will suit you. I did this a couple of weeks ago, and they suggested some things I would never have looked at, but I'm planning to check them out when I'm next in store.

  • Good evening ladies

Sorry I have been awolfor for a few days.

Maman - I cannot tell a lie I have been a bit low and distracted this last couple of weeks. I feel that I've have been hit by an emotional tsunami this last week or two but I have now come out the other side. The worst is over.

I have a Physio booked for tomorrow and I've planned a few treats for next week.

I have been reading though, even if I haven't posted. I'm loving the chats and it's good to see you all doing so well.

Sweetcheeks - glad to hear your DH is out of hospital. Hope all is well and that he is making a good recovery.

Silva - get you with your Chongsam. :rotfl: I love those, perfect for Your Chinese New Year celebrations.

Butterscotch - l think loose baggy clothes can actually make someone appear larger than they are. I think the trick to looking slimmer is to go for clothes that are fitted, avoiding stretchy, clingy fabrics.

I think colour blocked dressing, wearing the same colour for both top and bottoms can make you look taller and slimmer. A well fitting outfit can easily make someone look a stone lighter. "Flowing" clothes really only suit someone who is tall and slender. Think Cate Blanchet in those flowing robes in Lord of the Rings. Then imagine Jennifer Lopez in the same outfit and she would look huge, even though she is probably quite dainty.

If you have an apple shape then I think a well fitting jacket would detract the eye away from your middle and "rebalance" your shape. I'm not suggesting you adopt huge 80s shoulder pads, but a structured jacket works wonders.

Also a V-neck to dresses or sweaters would work well, drawing the eye to your cleavage and away from your waist.

Given I have had such a difficult time this month, I was wary of getting on the scales. Fortunately I have only put 2lbs back on so not too bad.

Hopefully I'm back on track now.;)

    Good Evening Everyone,

Nice to see you back LL have some gentle hugs.

Usual fabbing for me today with the exception of the mascara as i knew i was going out and about and it was raining heavily and swapping to snow. It says its waterproof but i didn't want to end up looking like a clown.

    Keep on fabbing ladies

    regards

I've bought bits from La Redoute over the years, they used to have a shop in Caen that I used. Generally they're a bit different form what you see in UK shops and good prices so certainly worth having a look at.

Thanks for that tip. I'll certainly have a go. Even if I don't buy from M&S I'm curious to know what they think might suit. Strangely enough I used to wear a bit of 'flowing' before I lost weight. Smocky tops and waterfall cardis. They certainly were good for hiding the bits I wanted.

Get you with the cheongsam silva! I was soooo tempted when I was last in Hong Kong but unfortunately that was before I lost weight and I didn't want to depress myself. Instead I bought lovely lace table linen, bowls and chopstick rests which makes any Chinese meal we have special.
