Frugal Frump to Fab - 2015

maman thanks, as always, for your encouragement:)
Lots of healthy food ordered and a determination to stay away from the chocolate and stick to the fruit! Ideally, I'd do as you do and not buy the "naughties", but my (very slim and fit!) menfolk would riot!
Have just taken off nail polish and filed nails which is another plus for me; not painting them tonight though - I need some new colours as mine seem to be chipping off really quickly and I'm wondering if it's because I've had them a while.
Nearly ordered myself some expensive new perfume today from the Boots website - I'm another who can't seem to find one with a lasting fragrance - but I can't really justify being so non- MSE at the moment; maybe I'll treat myself if and when I've lost some weight, use that as an incentive!0 -
Evening Everyone,
Thank you for your lovely comments about the quilt. I've moved it into the guest room but will need to rethink my colour scheme in there now. Maman, there are loads of ways you could use your hexagon 'flowers'. Mine started out like that and I just built up round them but there are hundreds other ways you could turn them into a cover. How about appliqueing them onto a plain background divided into squares with lengths of ribbon for a quick way to use them? If you Google hexagon quilts there are masses of lovely images and tutorials to inspire you.
I've had a busy but very rewarding day. I went shopping in our local city today and had a good look round the charity shops. In one I got a lovely cream wool coat from Next and as they were doing buy one get one free on garments I also picked up a smart black jacket as a bonus. In another I found a super dress from Oasis. I needed a grey dress for an event at work and picked this one off the rail even though it looked a bit shapeless. However, once on it looked fantastic. It's a knee length shift dress but pleated to a circular yoke at the top then shaped with curved seams and it just seemed to suit my figure. It just goes to show you can't always judge an outfit from how it looks hanging up. I only picked it up because of needing one in that colour, but it looks like becoming a firm favourite.
I've been to Aerobics and Circuits this evening and had a 3 mile run this morning. It was also weigh in day on my weight loss challenge and I've finally dropped below 10 stone again so back to my pre-Christmas weight. Hurray! Now I need to keep up the momentum.
To add to the good day, DH heard from Amazon which is where he'd bought the faulty perfume spray from. They have put a new one in the post and told us to keep the old one. So if we can open it I have an extra bottle of very expensive perfume to use.
I hope everyone else has been having a good day.

ETA: I bought some kelp tablets to see if they helped with the tiredness as they are high in iodine. It it is linked to thyroid problems it could make a difference. Let's hope so.Weight Loss Challenge 5/7/19 10st 6lbs

No problem if my perfume wears off quickly today: opened a new jar of body lotion this morning that someone bought me for Christmas - it's very strong scented; I'm very conscious that I smell like a bag of lemons!:rotfl:
Rotten outside at the moment so having done all my "outdoors tasks" for the day, I'm going to have a coffee, bit more house fabbing and put shopping away when it's delivered.
Hoping to fit in a yoga/exercise DVD at some point, even if it's just a half hour routine.
Have a good day, all x0 -
Rose - that quilt is beautiful. Clever you.
sorry I e been awol just not feeling too good at all at the moment.
Tuesday was the 6 month Anniversay of OHs death and I guess coming hot on the heels of our wedding Anniversay it's all just a bit too much. I feel bruised and battered and full of aches and pains, constant headaches and just exhausted.
I ve also had to do a lot of running around for my dad. So I am just going to take it easy now for the next couple of weeks, and going to keep my diary as clear as possible. I'll just go at my own pace......
I've a Physio appt booked for tomorrow so hopefully I'll feel a bit better after that.
It's very grey and miserable here today.
On the plus side I think I may have found my new home......a nice swanky looking apartment in a complex by the river. I am viewing it on Saturday so will keep you posted.
I have viewed several properties recently but so far nothing to get excited about - mainly because I am finding it difficult to decide what would suit me Best.
My big dilemma is athough I do love the countryside I am really a townie at heart .......I also think that now I am a singleton again I need to be close to shops and amenities so I can get out and about easily.
Decisions, decisions.:o0 -
Hope you feel better soon LL. You are allowed to feel bruised. I hope the viewing goes well!No more goo hoarding!

That sounds like one very successful day rose and great news about the replacement perfume, You can afford to be really extravagant with it now. Thanks for the quilt tips. I enjoy sewing and knitting but have fallen a bit out of love with home made clothes so I'm looking for a project where I'd actually like the end product. Last year I knitted an Aran cushion and I really like that.Ideally, I'd do as you do and not buy the "naughties", but my (very slim and fit!) menfolk would riot!
One tip I use is to buy my DH treats that I'm not that keen on. Unfortunately the last couple of days I've been tempted with crackers and a creamy gorgonzola from Aldi but I can watch him eat biscuits or flavoured crisps no problem.lessonlearned wrote: »On the plus side I think I may have found my new home......a nice swanky looking apartment in a complex by the river. I seem to remember you liked a similar property a while ago before you got involved in helping the boys. I think you're wise to look at somewhere with good amenities. DH and I are fortunate in that we've stayed put, so what was originally a good spot for our girls so we didn't have to ferry them everywhere as teenagers is now proving excellent for us. We have buses, motorway, trains and airport all on our doorstep. Do let us know how you get on.
All basics done today. Not doing much but a few work emails and pottering. Have a good day all.:)0 -
Hi everyone, after a few days of reading through, got to page 13 and decided this is just up my street and should introduce myself. I recognise a few from SW thread :hello:
I'm 52, married with 3 grown up children. I've had ME for at least 17yrs. During those years I've swung in and out of depression, guilt trips for not being able to be a 'proper' mum and my only treat/pleasure was found in food. About 2 years ago a photo was take whilst celebrating DD1's 21st. I was appalled at how I looked and it was just the jolt I needed. I'd previously made the excuse that I couldn't lose weight because I couldn't exercise and tone up. I decided there and then to change my diet. I started with an anti-candida elimination diet. This high lighted that I was intolerant to both wheat, gluten, oats & lactose. I then progressed to a low carb diet and managed to lose 2st. I'm 5'2" and needed to lose 5st. My DH had been following SW and I switched to make meal times easier. I started very warily to do Callanetics (did them years ago after eldest child was born). I've very slowly and gradually built up to a routine I'm happy with. I've gone from a size 18/20 to 14. This has given me quite a confidence boost. I started taking an interest in my appearance/clothes again. 18 months ago I turned 50. I went to my local college and had my hair cut into a short bob and got the grey all covered up. I discovered they do massages really cheaply. These are recommended for ME/Chronic Lyme Disease sufferers as they get toxin out. I now get one once a week during term time.
January 2014 DH and I started ballroom dance classes. Before then I had virtually no social life and only left the house for food shopping. This last year I have completely revamped my wardrobe, I now have a reason to have decent clothes to wear. I've started wearing make up and jewelry.
I still suffer from lack of confidence and low self esteem. I have to save as much energy as I can for dancing, I enjoy it so much and do not want to have to give it up.
My goals for this year:
1. Get into a smaller size dress for DD2's graduation this year and have a smaller tummy (really getting me down atm).
2. Wear earrings more often. When I tried putting some in over Christmas I discovered they'd almost closed up. I've always had problems with sore ears so only wore them on special occasions. I've started by wearing them for dance class each week. I've discovered the loop ones hurt less than studds.
3. De-clutter house ready for downsizing. I would like less housework and more fun!
4. After reading this thread - wear perfume everyday.
5. Have a facial scrub once per week.
6. Moisturise hands & feet daily.
7. Lose another Stone
I think that's enough to be going on with.Weight loss 0/2st

I hope everyone is well.
Rose that bed cover is gorgeous- what an achievement
LL glad to hear you have planned some time out. Although it seems like a long time - 6 months you still need to be gentle with yourself and pampering yourself. I hope your viewing goes well ..

Well oh goes for operation on Monday thankfully he gets home same day but actually that makes me more nervous. I. Also have had bereavement this week and not sure when funeral is yet and worried about oh as I will need to travel back to my families. So of course I am in full worry mode about coulda woulda shoulda before any of it actually happens.....

Good Evening Fabbers,
Had a good day today, i got all my usual fabbing done including the mascara.
My home fabbing list was quite short today so i managed to fit in some crochet and while i was in the garden with the dog i had my first chat with our new neighbour. It was quite nice talking to another adult during the day.
DH has been working extra hours lately, he usually comes home for lunch and this breaks up the day a little, but he has been taking a packed lunch and i have really been missing him.
Hopefully it won't last much longer.
Keep on fabbing
regards:j0
