Morning ladies
Snow here overnight too - absolutely not my favourite.
I am working from home and normally I would sit in my PJs until lunch but not today! I got up earlier than 5 minutes before my start time and am sat here fully dressed, hair brushed, perfume on, moisturised, vitamins taken and lips balmed.
Hoody, tank top and jeans for me today as it's cold (haven't put the heating on) and I'm not going out until this evening anyway except at lunchtime to prepare the car for long journeys tomorrow/Friday/Saturday.
I have put weight on since yesterday but only 400g which considering lunch was at Frankie and Benny's and tea was at TGI Fridays isn't bad going. :rotfl:
I'm not certain how well I will fab tomorrow and Friday because I have a 65 (or 85 if I go the long way round because of snow) mile each way commute to work. I usually go to the gym on the way but it does leave me limited time as I am not inclined to get up before 5.45am and usually leave the house between 6 and 6.15. I will do as much as I can tonight instead and to be fair what I'm actually doing doesn't take that long.0 -
Feeling a bit tired and 'blurgh' today, so decided I'd go and have a bit of a pamper session.
Got out my hair removing cream (underarms - probably last done in November, but lucky that it doesn't grow fast so was only just getting to a point where I'd ever consider doing it), a face mask (haven't used in years, but for some reason have several in my toiletries stockpile) and hair dye (last done in April of last year - couldn't have done it again until Nov/Dec due to a breaking a wrist in July as I was just thinking of doing it!).
Opened the box of hair colouring - only to find it's missing the tube of colourantAnd I've had it a good while, so can't prove where or when I bought it
I know I have more in the house, but couldn't find one at a quick scan - so I had to abort all ideas of doing my hair
If I don't find one before a week on Friday I'll bob down the shops and pick one up then - and hopefully get it done on the Saturday morning. Not buying before then as I've no plans to go shopping for anything but food until that day

Hello lovely ladies
Bright and crisp here, no snow yet but definitely cold enough. I'm all stocked up just in case.
Had my eyes tested. I was a bit nervous that he might spot early signs of diabetes but I'm all clear.... He did however find the early beginnings of a cataract but it hasn't begun to form yet, just a slightly cloudy lens so nothing to worry about yet. It is amazing what your eyes can tell you about your overall health.
Anyway although my prescription hasn't changed I have had to buy new glasses because the hinge mechanism on my last pair has gone and is hanging on for dear life. So I pushed the boat out a bit and ordered some very fashionable new glasses.
I also took advantage of their offer for some half priced prescription sunglasses, very Jackie O, the optician was chuckling away at how "trendy" I was.
I still need to get a Second pair for emergencies but I thought I might try online. Has anyone done this, any suggestions, any pitfalls.
Going to carry on decluttering this afternoon - droppd 3 bags off at the charity shop and was very good I didn't buy anything, not even a fabulous pottery vase which took my fancy. I need extra ornaments like I need a hole in the head. :rotfl:
I am also going to try and do some more Paleo baking this afternoon.
I have both boys here for dinner tonight, so shall kill the fatted calf and cook up a storm. Lamb for dinner, with DS1's favourite cauliflower cheese.
Well you have to spoil them don't you.:rotfl:
Time for lunch, I'll watch the first of that "best diet" programme and then get cracking.
Paleo is still going well, have completely lost all carb cravings, no headaches, and have gone down to half a teaspoon of sugar in beverages.
I'm feeling quite pleased with myself......:D0 -
I was told about early signs of cataracts last May, but no mention made at latest check-up yesterday (yes - 7 months between prescriptions for me. and no acknowledged medical reason for it!!)
They don't say anything about diabetes to me, but as part of the medical questioning I tell them my GP considers me very high risk for T2
Thought about on-line, but I'm fussy about frames so it could be tricky just for that. And I have varifocals which the opticians always take measurement for with the selected frames in place - I don't see how that can be done for an on-line order, so can't be convinced they'd actually be 'made to fit' the same
Had a quick look at one service yesterday evening, but even with cheaper frames (£25 instead of £50) they came in at more than I paid in B00ts - although I accept they'd have been cheaper if I didn't get a 50% discount for being subscribed to their contact lens scheme.Cheryl0 -
LL & CW - I've also been told at my last eye test (August) that I have the beginnings of a cataract in one eye. Optician recommended wearing sunglasses in bright light & avoiding bright headlights when driving at night - not sure how you'd manage this especially with some cars having those really bright LED lights now.
I do wear a pair of sunglasses more often now though not really dark ones.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Yes I wondered about getting the actual fit right.
I go to a small independent optician and they are just as good on price as Boots. I have given. Up with Specsavers because you would sitting waiting to be seen for hours. I also use Costco but again they can be really busy at times and getting an apt can be quite a problem , especially in school holidays. Tbh I don't find them much cheaper.
I guess it's one of those things that you just have to cough up for.
Re the diabetes, it,was an optician who originally spotted that my mum had developd diabetes and-referrd Her to her GP. Apparently a change occurs in the blood vessels in the eye and of course an optician is best place to spot this.
I do need to have my bloods checked some time soon though.
I also have a mammogramme booked for this month, so I'm getting all the medical stuff out of the way and then hopefully I can relax and just concentrate on the fun stuff, like getting my hair sorted out and a few beauty treatments.
I hope I don't sound like a hypochondriac - I'm not honest:rotfl: it's just that I have neglected myself whilst I was concentrating all my efforts on my OH and I have missed out on a few routine health checks.
I am a great believer that prevention is better than cure. I've seen first hand what neglected diabetes can do......it's not pretty and I'm determined to do everything I can to cheat my genetic inheritance.
I'm already at least 10 years better off than my mum. She was in her early fifties when she was diagnosed, I'm 63 so obviously a bit of an improvement.
M mum refused to take it seriously and was convinced that she was powerless to either reverse or at least slow down the progress of the disease. She refused point blank to modify her diet or make any attempt to help herself. I won't be making that mistake.
My sister is 11 years younger than me and she too is already very concscious of the need to take care.
We have both witnessed mums final years and tbh you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy. Mum is in a very sorry state .......0 -
My glasses and contacts have UV protection, which the optician assures me means I don't need sunglasses which I hate wearing !Cheryl0

Yes I find driving at night a bit of a problem, despite glasses being treated with that anti-glare stuff.
Ah the joys of aging. Still it beats the alternative:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
My Mum was diagnosed type 2 about 8 years ago, so I've still a way to go to reach the same age. She's pretty good about her diet for both that and high cholesterol, although she also takes meds for both.
My Dad was diagnosed type 2 in December, having been diagnosed with high cholesterol in 2004. Unfortunately he's one of those who thinks the meds will sort it all out for him
I bought myself a blood sugar monitor (had to pay VAT on it as I've not been diagnosed diabetic), and I take a fasting blood sugar reading every Monday morning when I weigh in (also do my BP). I'm trying to adapt my diet amd lifestyle to fight off the diabetes risk, as well to fight high cholesterol (for which I refused meds).Cheryl0 -
Good for you CW. I think you are very wise.
I'll tell you a true story.
I have a lifelong friend, he has known me since I was six months old, he was nine when we "met". Anyway when he was 28 he did a stock take after his last remaining uncle had died. apparently all the male relatives had died before they wer 40, including his own father. It was his wake up call.
He changed his life, stopped smpking, overhauled his diet, started exercising. He's now 72 and fit as a fiddle.
You can changed your Stars - which really is what this thread is all about. Ive always maintqined that Fabbing is not just about lippy and frocks it's also about taking a holistic approach to our lives, medically. Physically, emotionally and psychologically. It's just that it starts with perfume and a few simple beauty treatments. It just grows from there.0
