Dusty - we saw Paddington at the weekend. I loved it and could see some of our mad pup in him.
Sausage rolls made, sausage meat, thyme and red onion. Should be ready in about 10 minutes.
HM stuffing prepared and in the fridge, sausage meat, breadcrumbs, sage, apple and onion.
Gammon in slow cooker in cola but had to chop some off as my half pig was too big. Never made it before so hope it goes okay.
We are taking all the meat to our friends as they are veggie, but their daughters eat meat, they are doing starters, all the veggies and pud.
Just HHI x 2 to do this afternoon, then a walk with mad dog.
It is beautifully sunny out, doesn't feel like Christmas Eve, but not complaining as helps with that other dog in my life, the BD.
Off to work for 11, then no more till 5th January:j

Bossy its lovely to hear whats going on with your littlies. For those of us with teenagers or grown up kids we need a bit of that magic - although I do appreciate the calm and quiet at times!!
I went back to bed and wrestled with the dog for a corner of the duvet. OH is feeling grotty and making it known. Is it a bit unkind to suggest he could try and make the best of it even though he isnt feeling great? Going to have a lovely Christmas at this rate. Ah well. Going to get dressed and see if anyone fancies going into town for a wander about - I need some foil and one or two other bits.0 -
Dusty, we've adopted various cats over the years and with one very notable exception it has worked just fine merging cats.
This is probably teaching granny to suck eggs, but the best tip I can suggest is to mix their scents. They will all object hugely the first time, and then object a bit and then sort of mind and then accept one another grudgingly in my experience. The technique is to rub your fingers along their whiskers then rub that scent in the same place on the second cat, the third cat and so on back to the first.
Devil Cat's very clearly stated intention was to kill every cat he came into contact with, and he never accepted any of the others. We can't have another because he is as fierce now as he was when we first adopted him about eight years ago. He'd been a stray for quite a while I think, an entire tom, so it isn't his fault - he's defending his territory.Better is good enough.0 -
Have got washing on the line and have wrapped the Vallikids gifts. Including one I had forgotten I had bought. This will need a rethink of total spend per offspring;). This year I have put them under the tree.
I ahve also bought a box for the family 'Secret Santa' to throw the recipient off the scent...
Talking of scent I am going to rub the 'kitten's' scent on the old lady cat - the young lady who died picked her out for us, their thought-to-be-male cat was taken to the vets as 'he' was getting fat - result? Name changed from Billy to Billie and we got one of the 3 kittens. In 1998. We still have her. Worth a try, anyway!
I'm going out on an errand now.
I'm looking forward to spending time with my family tomorrow but I will quietly raise a glass to the two people I knew who left this earth way too soon this year and I hope their families find some happy memories to bring joy to their hearts.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
Thanks Honeybear. Kittens have been sitting in a basket which the others have slept in. I'll try the rubbing faces. I stroke the little ones then let the big ones sniff my hand and stroke them.
Sun is out so washing is going on the line. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Hello flyladies, think I've got my Xmas holiday back as up to date with all merger stuff....so possibly nothing more to do until 5 Jan unless I get a text next week telling me otherwise.
Is it too early to have a drink?Spend less now, work less later.0 -
So sorry to hear of your sad news at Christmas Valli.
I remembered to put the bin out for today (usually it's Thursday). Hopefully the bin men will be in festive mood and will not leave it half down the road.
Very busy morning at the office. Due to finish any minute now, and my own list of jobs is:
Wrap Mr B's presents before he comes home (his employers are playing bah humbug and he may have to work until usual finish time of 6.30 pm)
Cook ham
Bake cake and mince pies
Bake biscuits for Tigger (sadly Daisy died last month)
Make bread sauce and cranberry sauce
Find bottle of mulled wine (what a cheat). It's either under the sink or in the loft!
I will definitely be pursuing my own lists some of the time - I have had to learn some very, very hard truths about my expectations of myself over the last couple of years, and recognise just how ill I have been and for many more years than I realized. So I definitely want the company and advice of all on here, but I will probably have to work out my own targets each day.
And I have promised myself the next two days "off" apart from what has to be done - to that end the front bedroom has the airers up and is full of the laundry that's been done, and the door is firmly shut. If it's dry it will still be dry on Saturday!Work is not my Hobby0 -
MAJOR strop had.
I have no decorations up, no tree, no advent calendars.. nothing!!
I asked DD3 (14) to put away some laundry well you'd think I'd asked her to dissect herself with a spoon!!! SO... I have had a MAJOR tantrum f***ed the whole crap off.. if they don't want Christmas then fine by me I feel about as festive as a fish.. They do sod all and I am utterly pee'd off with everything, everyone and just want them all to go away.
Helped of course by the threats from KH as usual and the 3 littlies being very naughty. I'm in pain after almost breaking my ankle yesterday falling over their crap left on the floor.
Is it really too much to expect these to help? at 14, 15, 17, 18 and 33???
Absolutely furious and I should be wrapping but I don't think I can trust OH or anyone to do a thing while I am upstairs other than make more mess for me to clear away.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Pigpen so sorry it is going so badly. They say Christmas is often stressful, but this year there seems to be a lot of it going around.
Unfortunately mum was coughing so much in the night she was sick poor thing; you can imagine what a panic I had with more sickness after OH. However she is insistent that it is just a cold and she seems ok-ish this morning although clearly exhausted so it's in bed, heating on, surrounded by water, throat sweets etc.
Just had phone call from MIL in next village, BIL has arrived and wants to come round with the food he's brought for us all. I explained that actually, it will only be 3 of us this evening (Doc not yet been to let OH out). I'm really hoping that, even if I have to provide the food and/or cook, that they will visit OH at 3pm then go home and leave me to look after mum for the evening. During our conversation BIL's cat was sick!! The thought of preparing a sit down meal some time between 4.45 after visiting OH and 6.15 setting off to visit again doesn't fill me with much enthusiasm. As it is I didn't sleep well, so came down for a cup of tea at 4.45am and put the gammon in the slow cooker. Have moved it into conservatory as the smell of it wasn't helping mum.
It's only small hassles compared with what many people have to put up with, it's almost comical or maybe that's hysteria!!Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0
