or - you can make old fashioned pomanders for xmas! my granddaughters were making these the other day! you need a bottle of cloves for about 3 4 large oranges so a couple of bottles of cloves would do 10 12 satsumas i would think.
just poke the cloves into the satsumasl/oranges/clementines not too close together (i find a cocktail or kebab stick helps to make holes easier then to push cloves in).
dry the oranges in an airing cupboard or any hottish dry surface (radiator) for a couple of weeks. decorate with ribbon and or cinnamon sticks or holly and use for christmas decoration or just to perfume the room.0 -
er - the granddaughters are only 5years old and insisted on calling the pomanders 'commanders' lol0

Hi
I use the juice of excess oranges when making fruit compote, you need some berries, equivalent amount of apple cut into v small pieces (a cheap way of doubling the end result), sugar to taste, a knob of butter and the orange juice. I cook it in a slow cooker and end up with a thick, rich compote, ideal for eating with yoghurt. Easy to freeze too in individual portions.

Slice them very thinly, shake cinnamon over them if you've got some,. then dry in a very low oven until dry. hang on red ribbon on the christmas tree. If you think they might not last, slice them thinly, then just open freeze them pack them in the freezer and nearer Christmas you can defrost and dry them.0
