I get paid at midnight and I'm sooo excited. Writing my September challenge shopping list this evening - I'm completely out of almost all essentials.

Today I had 46p left of my budget in my purse. The coppers have gone in the copper jar and the 40p was frittered on a chocolate bar from the work 'tuck shop'. I enjoyed every bite and the scary thrill of having nothing in my purse! Going to be an interseting brekkie in the morning; no milk, no tea,no fruit, no bread..erm..

Well done to those who came in budget and well done for trying hard those who didn't quite make it.
Switching to the other thread now and updating my sig.

Thanks for sharing your August stuff.

I haven't posted on this thread since I 'signed up' but I've tried to keep up with everyone's post.

I've just updated my spreadsheet for this week and (husband buying his standard lunch tomorrow permitting) we spent £271.51 on food this month :eek::eek:

I'm quite embarrassed to post that as it's only the 2 of us but this is my 1st month of watching things to the penny.

I am very proud to say I've only spent just over £2 on chocolate all month and I've only had 5 days when I've bought lunch rather than bringing something from home and 1 day was 1st day in new job, 1 day I was out on another site, 1 was meeting someone for lunch and another was someone leaving (5th was just a bag of crisps as I wasn't hungry) and it came to under £10.

Our downfall is OH buying a sandwich every day well 16 days that he went into work this month (worked from home some days) it's £28 but it's a compromise we've made as he's finding this living on a tight budget really hard. I did buy crisps for him in tescos though as they were much cheaper and also have been giving him fruit and home made cakes so he doesn't need to buy other snacks.

However I didn't include this lunch guess in my overall estimate which is partly why I'm out, then parents came and that was probably an extra £20 on food.

So if I take off that £48 I'm much closer to my estimate.

For September I'm aiming for £230 (seems perverse to increase it but it's more accurate now). No visitors and OH is away for a week and food's provided.

Thanks so much for this thread - it's really helped. :T

Yesterday I went through all my receipts again (lost track :() and happily found I didn't go over by quite as much as I thought, just £12.88!
I thought it was much worse as I haven't been really trying very hard.
Now I just realised I need to sort out an online shop for September. That really helped with August, getting all the cat food and canned goods we need for the month. I still have quite a lot of pasta left and some rice.
Well done everyone who managed to keep track better than I did!

  • Hola

I'll be starting this as of tomorrow.

For September me and my gf will try and cut back on spending but i'll keep all of the receipts and work out the total at the end of the month.

I reckon we spend around £160 a month at the moment - god knows what on!

    I'll keep you posted...
