I've been listening to Dave Ramsey vids and podcasts on Youtube. He's definately inspiring in a very American sort of way
I like his baby steps, although I'm not following them 100%.

Morning all! It's been a bit of a slow month on here. Maybe it's just been slow in comparison to our rocket-fuelled start to the year so far, we're only slightly behind last year's May total with a few days still to run. If you've got any payments to declare, do it now :rotfl: Joking apart, it's always a bit faster in the first few months of the challenge, and we're right on track, so well done.
In other new, I'm finally back on plan after having to put a few bits and bobs on the credit card last month. That's completely paid off now, so should be able to resume overpayments in the next month. We're away for a week in June, but that's paid for, so that's a week worth of food and fuel I won't need. Hopefully there will be a good bit left over this month, fingers crossed!Hi all
I'm a bit late but do you mind if I join for 2015:).
I was in the challenge a few years ago and I managed to clear my debt but unfortunately it started to creep up again and my credit card is sitting at £2750:o. The main difference from before is that I know where the money went (new sofa & holiday) and it wasn't just frittered. I don't think I will have it cleared in 2015 but at least I will get started.
Thank you
Hi Munchin, I suppose it's not a thread that anyone wants to be welcomed back to, but welcome back! You're number #179, good luck for the rest of the year.Feel a bit down in the dumps tonightblah! It's not good cos I end up eating and spending lots as a way to distract myself,,,

Hey all
What a busy weekend I had. Blew a grand on credit card on stuff for the new flat. Will hopefully get all deposit back to pay it back off.
So after initial thoughts on Friday about how dirty the flat was I was back in there on Sunday and Monday and oh my days I have never seen such filth. For a family of 3 they must have never heard of hoovering behind doors, sofas etc. Dust was an inch thick in places. They left all manner of stuff in cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom including boxes of tampax and pads. Rusty rings where cans had been sat for so long and not been moved. We had a boot and a half of their crap in our car that we had to take to the dump. I am thinking of writing a letter to their estate agents to claim a little compensation for time and fuel wasted on clearing their stuff out of our flat. I haven't even looked in the garage en bloc yet. Scared as to what I will find dumped there.
Anyway I got a lot of prep done ready for painting. The bedroom windows have all been scraped clean to the wall/fascia ready for filling and decent sealant again. Balcony is clean and moss free and has our new table and chairs already (that was priority number 1 so when we were knacked cleaning we could sit on balcony and enjoy sun). Spend the rest of this week sanding down the walls in the bedroom and then we will paint on Saturday whilst then making the same prep in the lounge.
We're getting there slowly but surely.0 -
Hi everyone. I haven't been on here at all in a while, have been too busy with RL getting in the way
I've also been a bit depressed lately with the state of our money situation ATM. Both of our wages have been reduced, no more extra hours for me and no more overtime for OH, so we're back down to living on £800 each wage per month.
Good news is our Credit Union loan is paid out :T
I'm going to continue putting the money we had for that away and pay it towards the credit card. We've only £850 to pay off it but I'd like to get it paid off ASAP. I was toying with the idea of using the savings we have started for our 1st trip to America next year to pay off the card.
I've got a 50p, 20p, 10p, and 5p jar each going for this holiday. I'd prefer to keep it for the holiday though
Still can't decide.
Am going to go and have a look at what else can be sold on Ebay to try and raise a bit more money to pay off the card, but the way things are going I think I'm going to have to start looking for a 2nd Job in the evenings to try and keep us afloat.
I had been making wee gifts for end of term gifts for teachers/assistants to help raise money for a friend of ours whose son is fighting leukemia ATM. These were selling really well, and a few people on here also contacted me to buy some too. But I think I'm going to have to pull back on those fundraising efforts for a while and maybe make up some for myself to sell to help try pay off some more debt.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
ERM, can I come back please.
After a very difficult year money wise and getting myself into a mess again a few months before the end of my DMP I have finally come out the other side ready to sort this debt once and for all. I should have been debt free at the end of April but not so.
I did some really stupid things which I'm not proud of and sort of gave up but in the past few weeks have come out the other side of the blackness and made some firm plans again.
Then this morning I had a letter out of the blue about two credit card PPI claims which were declined in 2012. Well they have reconsidered and will be sending me a check in 28 day reducing my debt drastically and giving me a fighting chance to be debt free before Christmas.
One of my failings is when I get near to the end I drop my guard and loosen up. This is another reason I messed up recently. The only place I keep focussed on my debt properly is here.
I will update with my new figure as I'm sure the one that is posted on page one at the moment is totally out of date.
By the way I have lurked and you're all doing fab:T.
Edited to say my new figure is £4287 - I hope its OK to change it.
