Hi all,
I was part of this thread last year and about 6 weeks ago I couldn't help but find this years thread and have read it all the way through! I though I needed to post a message.
Firstly, well done to everyone on this thread! You are all amazing. It's not always easy but you are all heading in the right direction and no exactly what you need to do rather than burying your heads in the sand! A massive bonus! Even thought I am no longer in debt (well apart from the mortgage) you have still inspired me to not waste money on things we don't need. So thank you.
This time last year we had no savings and two large car loans. We were to paid the car loans off over 5 years. It never occurred to us to overpay them to pay less interest!
We decided we wanted to move house but we wanted to get rid of the loans before we did. We tightened our belts, saved to pay off the smallest loan and got rid of it and then used the extra money to pay off the second one. It surprised us how much money we wasted before on nothing! I also joined the grocery challenge and have halved my monthly shopping bills which has meant an £200 or so to pay off debts.
Anyway, in October we became 'debt free' and started to use that money to save for our deposit for the next house. We sold the house and got an offer accepted on a new one in April and we should be moving in June. The house needs some work doing to it but it will be done gradually!
Keep up the good work everyone. You are doing great!Grocery challenge-

Thanks for the kind post Frizzle. It's always nice to hear from old members, and it sounds like you're still on the straight and narrow! it's posts like these that keep me going, and a nice reminder of the freedom at the end of the tunnel. Congrats on the new house :j0

Loan 2 came out the bank the other day at £126.37 and I made an overpayment of £26.26.
So I'm now on £152.65/£3000.
Can I change my target to £5000 please.
ThanksSaving for that dream holiday0 -
