Hey all
What a busy weekend I had. Blew a grand on credit card on stufyf for the new flat. Will hopefully get all deposit back to pay it back off.
So after initial thoughts on Friday about how dirty the flat was I was back in there on Sunday and Monday and oh my days I have never seen such filth. For a family of 3 they must have never heard of hoovering behind doors, sofas etc. Dust was an inch thick in places. They left all manner of stuff in cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom including boxes of tampax and pads. Rusty rings where cans had been sat for so long and not been moved. We had a boot and a half of their crap in our car that we had to take to the dump. I am thinking of writing a letter to their estate agents to claim a little compensation for time and fuel wasted on clearing their stuff out of our flat. I haven't even looked in the garage en bloc yet. Scared as to what I will find dumped there.
Anyway I got a lot of prep done ready for painting. The bedroom windows have all been scraped clean to the wall/fascia ready for filling and decent sealant again. Balcony is clean and moss free and has our new table and chairs already (that was priority number 1 so when we were knacked cleaning we could sit on balcony and enjoy sun). Spend the rest of this week sanding down the walls in the bedroom and then we will paint on Saturday whilst then making the same prep in the lounge.
We're getting there slowly but surely.
Ewww sounds awful, surely they should have cleaned it before they left :eek:0 -

Hey all, just checking in finally to say we completed at 3pm today. I went down to get the keys at 5pm and check it out...
All I can say is...the last people must have been living in dirt and grime. It is filthy, dirty, greasey, hairy (cats) and needs a lot of cleaning/painting. But thankfully that is all it needs.
So weird we didn't see any of that when we visited the flat while being lived in. Amazing what a sofa and living stuff can cover up in a flat.
Annoying we are visiting my partners nan this weekend so got no time to get in there and clean more.
In sadder news I just blew £700 on a washing machine, fridge freezer and wardrobe on the credit card. I will pay it off when we get deposit back on old flat hopefully. promise.
Congratulations on your new house. Can I suggest a couple of things while the flat is completely empty and before you do anything. First give it a really good check for mould, or evidence of any. Hopefully there won't be any but this is a difficult thing to treat when all your things are in the flat as opposed to when it it empty.
Also, if you are able to get in the attic under the roof, make sure it is totally dark inside and see if there is any daylight at all, even if just the tiniest crack, coming through.
This is easier to do when the roof is dry and not leaking. This has a good set of instructions for how to proceed with roof patch from the inside. just in case you see a bit of daylight.

Ah, a flat, rather than a house. I hope the roof isn't your responsibility. We have a top floor flat. The roof has been a nightmare, thankfully not paid for by us (the repairs, or should I say ongoing repairs).0 -

It's mostly empty at moment, half our stuff is shoved in one room while we sort out the master bedroom and lounge.
Some slight mould patches in bedroom behind where they had their bed (external wall.) Some slight patches in one corner of the lounge (external wall). So we're sanding back everything, treating it and then painting over again with anti-mould.
We're middle flat so no roof and no rising damp thankfully. Last flat we live in has bad damp and lots of mould. So it seems like we've jumped from frying pan in to fire but there's no sign of damp in new flat it's just a few patches where they clearly haven't been ventilating properly.0
