Just updating as had my scan app come through. seems ages away.
Got my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow, what should i be expecting?
My sickness is still here and doesn't seem to be going anywhere which can get me quite down at times. I've also been waking up about 2am and struggling to get back to sleep, Friday night/ saturday morning I was awake at 2 and didn't end up going back to sleep, I must have lay there for hours with my eyes closed trying to fall back off and it just wasn't happening. ended up in a text convo with my drunken friend on her way home from a night out, she was going to drop mcdonalds round for me :rotfl: don't think the hubby would of liked being woken up at 3 with her banging on the front door. lol x
    hi :D

Sorry to hear of everyone's various struggles! My sickness has eased off a lot over the weekend, and I'm desperately hoping it doesn't come back as I'm getting a bit fed up of it now. It keeps coming and going which is good as I get a break from it, but bad as I keep getting my hopes up that it's gone for good and then it comes back! I'm also permanently shattered at the moment so having lots of afternoon naps!

I had my 16 week appointment last week me-charlotte - the midwife took my blood pressure, checked my urine sample, and we discussed the results from the blood tests taken at my scan (all fine, thankfully!). We also discussed immunizations I might want/need, and she suggested I go for a flu jab, and then that was it. I was only there for about 15 minutes. I know some people get to listen to baby's heartbeat at this point, but my midwife won't do this until the next appointment (about 24 weeks) as they said they often can't find it at this stage and that just causes too much unnecessary stress!

Well, I guess I'd better leave you guys! I'm 24+2 today.

I hope those with sickness find it abates soon and you start to feel a little more human. And it's nice to know I'm not the only one not sleeping properly. I have very few friends with kids IRL so no one to talk about these things with!

I'll see you on the next thread soon.

  • I've got my 16 week appointment tomorrow too me-charlotte :) Last time I got to hear the heartbeat at 16 weeks so hoping we will tomorrow as well. DH is working at home so he might come along too.

Otherwise it's just the normal things for MW appointments - BP, dip your urine for signs of infection etc, results of booking in bloods if you've not had them yet.

Devildolly - yes to sleeping bags, probably the best baby invention ever! We had 2 each in 2.5 and 1 tog for DD, in case of sick/nappy leaks in the middle of the night! As baby due in the winter, I'd buy 2.5 only and see how you get on, you might not need 1 tog in 0-6 months. I think ours were 6-18 months and DD was born in late November.

Slings - so much choice, but I wouldn't get one from Mothercare - they mostly just have the baby bjorn style which aren't great for baby's hips or your back, and the pouch sling ones which can be difficult to use safely. See if you have a local sling library where you can try them out, as different styles suit different people, and the volunteers will be really knowledgable. We got our carrier at a baby expo where we could try lots at the same time. We have a stretchy wrap (great for newborns) and a Connecta (soft carrier with buckled straps) and really liked both. We used the connecta until after DD was 2 so a good buy for us.

Thanks! That's really helpful. I was undecided about going to a babyshow coming up in October, but think I will now as they have a sling library there. As I am short and OH is very tall, I woudl like to try before I buy.

Also, how am I at the top of the list (based on EDD). 24 weeks tomorrow. Seems unreal! Three of us all on the same due date! How exciting!
  • devildolly5 - yes indeed, I wonder who will pop first?!

  • Hi Ladies

Sorry to hear about those still feeling sicky; really hope that it passes for you soon. I'm just suffering with residual tiredness, and some back ache which is compounded by playing with my toddler.

Re slings - definitely get to a sling library and I strongly advise against a structured carrier such as baby bjorn type as they are really bad for baby's hips and spine alignment. I have a stretchy wrap that I used from newborn last time, a babasling if I wanted something very quick though only used this from about 2 months old, an african carrier which is very similar to a Boba (and can be used from tiny to about 3 years; would still use it if my 2 year old didn't insist on walking). This time I've treated myself to a K'tan for newborn use as feel I may need something instant with a busy almost 3 year old too.

Re sleeping bags - they are the most amazing baby invention and I cannot recommend them highly enough. In fact, my toddler still uses one (obviously a bigger size). I have always had two or three in each size at least in case of sickness/leaking nappies etc overnight. I would also say you need 2.5 tog and see how you go. In the UK I've only occasionally used a 1 or 1.5 tog as find it doesn't often get warm enough.

I had a mw appt at 14 weeks and then at 18 weeks and at both she checked bp, urine sample, felt the height of my uterus, listened to the heartbeat, discussed scan (at 14week appt) and checked I had a date through for my 20 week scan/consultant appt (at 18 week appt). Although its my second, I'm seeing the mw every 4 weeks until near the end when it will be more often.

    Have a good week everyone
  • I've bought a 1 tog (due march) but also have a cozy romper to match. Devildolly5 we are looking to buy somewhere but still have our 1bedroom flat, been on the market for a while. If we got it sold we would be in a better position to buy, at the moment or budget is tight so if we can't find anywhere to buy we might just have to rent.
  • Sweetilemon - I hope you find somewhere. I think apart from all this baby business, house buying/selling is one of the most stressful things I have been through.

Thanks saffagal and littlemoog, I am going to take your words of wisdom to OH and tell him why we need a stretchy one rather than a baby bjorn type. I didn't like them but couldn't come up with a good reason to convince him. Now I have!

I guess I had better move on to other (scary) thread now. 24 weeks today!!!!!!!!!

See you all over there shortly!
