I've got my first consultant appointment tomorrow (referred at 12 week scan due to BMI). Has anyone had one of these and know what to expect?!
Thanks xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0 -

Just popping in to say I've had consultant appointments due to an underactive thyroid. It's nothing to worry about, they will just ask why you are seeing them (mine has no idea, has to be told each time!) and let you know if there is anything further that will need to happen. I had to schedule a GTT test and now have monthly blood tests but that's it. I will be seeing the consultant for the third time next week. It's not even a 5 minute appointment. Completely agree about the lack of maternity clothes on the high street. I also think there's a gap in the market for clothes for when you're 4-6 months pregnant. Loads of the stuff I've been trying is just too big for me...as if they assume you go from normal size to full-term size bump! There's no middle road!
Manc - that is exciting about the furniture! Did you go for the Silver Cross stuff? I'm also thinking about getting a snuzpod, it seems to be a bit more compact that the other bedside cribs and we don't have loads of room at my side of the bed!
Can't believe this is my last week on this thread...I'm scared to move over to the big thread!!0 -
Im feeling absolutely heartbroken and massively guilty - an old school friend of mine has just posted on FB that his baby was born prematurely (26 weeks) and sadly passed away.
Obviously I know I have nothing to feel guilty about but for some reason I do - I still have my baby safe inside me and they don't
I'm now also going to be fretting past every week mark incase the same happens to us - you think its plain sailing after the 20 week scan then something like this happens and makes you realise that there's still a way to go until that little bundle is put safely in your arms and you relish in the screams that come from such a tiny thing!
I'd find this sort of thing extremely sad normally but throw in pregnancy hormones and its 10 times worse!!!
here's wishing everyone a safe journey to expected due date! xxxxxx0 -
Oh my goodness I'd feel the same! In fact I saw over the weekend that a friend had commented on a post of someone I don't know who had had the same thing happen. So so sad.
I keep thinking I literally don't want to tell anyone in case these things happen but I know you can't live like that - we'd never go on a plane or drive a car or cross a road!
Heartbreaking though xxOfficially Mrs B as of March 2013

oh no, that is so so sad....can't even stand to imagine what that would feel like! My heart is actually breaking for her...
I think I'd feel incredibly guilty too, even though there's nothing anyone could have done. I'm going to cherish every kick this wee lady gives me for the rest of the day now.

oh goodness that is so very sad... I work with a girl who went through something similar and is pregnant again and due the same day as me. She has had a stitch put in her cervix as its short, has scans every fortnight and has an induction date booked for 37 weeks already... I keep counting my blessings and ticking off each week too. We are so lucky to be on this journey!
psycho thanks for the heads up re: consultant.
pp yes we went for the Silver Cross Soho Cot/Cotbed and Wardrobe/Changer combo unit which is about all we can fit in our box room. The Snuzpod is lovely, we have the same issue with not much space but its only half a metre wide which is the same as my bedside table so it should slot perfectly there xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0 -
So, so sad. Cannot begin to imagine what they're going through. A family member lost her baby really late into pregnancy a couple of years ago and it's something that does play on my mind quite a bit. We all hope that once we get to 12 weeks, and then 20 weeks, everything will be okay but it's so sadly not always the case.
Good luck with the consultant appointment Manc, I'm sure it will be fine. Exciting about the furniture too!
We're still waiting for Mothercare to sort our furniture issues out. They sent replacement parts last week but they were the wrong ones. Really starting to lose my patience with them now.0 -
Tinks how utterly frustrating! I really hope they sort it for you soon xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0

Had my consultant appointment and all was fine, just checked BP, urine and the heartbeat, all good!
He said he would like to book a growth scan at 28 weeks and then 34 weeks rather than just go off fundal measurements - guess that's just another chance to see our boy though. He said the usual about high BMI meaning risk of pre-eclampsia and diabetes but nothing I hadn't heard already.
Another appointment done - next one is 25 week midwife!
Hope everyone is doing well today, phew its getting warm again 'oop North, bring on Autumn already xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0
