Welcome Rachel, congratulations on the scan.

Stress yesterday as I went to check what the builders had done and they've built me a curved wall!

The main gas pipe for the house comes in to the garage, and up into the ceiling above. I wanted them to box it in, so that it was easy to see where it was and also so that we lost a minimum of space.

The other option would have been to bring the entire wall out by 2 inches but it's already a narrow room and I don't want to lose that much space.

What they did is do a third option which is to bend the entire wall around the pipe. So the plasterboard begins close to the wall, then bulges away from it all the way up to where the pipe is, then comes back towards. Like a bow (archery bow) shape.

That's awful as it means the room wil look wonky, wall hangings wouldn't fit properly. Messes up the plan to extend worktop into it.

Anyway they have said they'll sort it on Monday as I wasn't happy at all. I thought I'd made it clear what I wanted. It was on my plan.

On the plus side, I started painting the nursery. Just the coat of white emulsion to seal the plasterboard.

It looks pretty good really. There's one wall where you can see the joins, but they're not awful. I could just wallpaper that one as a feature wall.

The other two are very smooth.

  • Happy weekend everybody and welcome to the thread Rachel! :D

Have got a busy day today visiting the in-laws to show off our scan pics then a meal for my heavily pregnant sisters birthday this evening - am already wondering how on earth I'll last all day without a nap :rotfl: Am excited though as we're going to be heading off early so we've got some time before to go and have a look around Mamas & Papas - the highlight of my weekend!

Saying that I'm going to be spending tomorrow sanding and painting internal doors. We went to B&Q to see about our bathroom being replaced yesterday - it costs twice as much to install an item than it does to buy it in the first place! Needs to be done though so will be getting more quotes and hoping they're not as extortionate :(
  • There's no sleep for people fixing up their houses and expecting babies is there Freddie?! I'm glad the room you've sorted is coming along nicely and hope your builders do what you actually asked them to in the first place when they're back next week. Who would want a bendy wall?!

I'm so glad we haven't got too much in the way of renovations to do. We do need to put in a wall in baby's room but fingers crossed that won't be too much work for oh. We have just done our bathroom, but oh fitted it so that saved us an awful lot of costs, it did however take much longer, not helped that just as oh had started he broke his collarbone which delayed things by quite a lot!! Means though we have more in our savings if we need it for when I'm on maternity leave!!

Oh, I've just realised technically this is my last weekend on this thread as ill be 24 weeks on Monday!!

Freddie- how bizarre that they did the wall like that, good to hear it will be fixed on Monday.

    Welcome Rachel.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.x

For all you ladies who are struggling with dowdy maternity wear, my wife stumbled across this place:

    http://www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Tops

(they also have some stores in london). Pretty reasonable prices and she has just ordered the things she likes in larger sizes as they aren't specifically designed as maternity clothes but this has worked out well, with a plan to get them adjusted when (if haha) she loses the baby weight after.....anyway she seems to think they are pretty stylish compared to most stuff she has seen and if you order online they have free return's if your not happy....

Just a heads up to check out the Clubcard boost if you have any vouchers. We've ordered some things with ours which we were looking at elsewhere for 'free'.

Some good examples are cellular blankets, 3 for 2 and in the boost so 3 blankets for a voucher the same value as 1.

Back from shopping and ouch my feet ache!!

Have picked out a little wardrobe in Ikea that we will buy. Looked at the joie chrome and oh didn't like it at all. There is a graco one we both quite liked, and we didn't see much on mamas and papas either so need to check the reviews for the graco one.

    Which Graco one ThinkPink?

Took a break from painting to go and look at some flooring and kitchen places for sorting out the new kitchen diner.

I only need a couple more units, and needed somewhere that had the same size as ours and a big enough range of doors to fit our existing ones.

Could only find a few places online that did the right sizes but were quite pricey.

Anyway as luck would have it, there's a local discount kitchen shop - warehouse type with a small showroom - a few streets away from our house, tucked away. They have a nice range of work tops and most importantly doors that would fit and replace our current ones! I suppose the best bit though is that they are genuinely very good value.

Going to take a break from working tomorrow and have a day out.

OH has been feeling some strong kicks today. He's moving around a lot. However she's also got quite strong pains at the moment, she's unsure if it's just stomach related or what.

Went into mothercare today to start looking at prams and now more confused than ever! I stil like the cosatto giggle 2, and we looked at an I candy one but didn't find it particularly easy to put down and up and pop the carry cot etc in. We saw a furniture set we liked but going to go for IKEA furniture or keep an eye on eBay for local secondhand stuff. We also quite like the idea of the bedside crib if anyone has used one? a friend of mine had one and loved it, said it made night feeds easier and less disturbing to OH.
