Your not going to get anything newer than about 2009 as that when the new emission rules came in. So depends what you mean by recent?

Pretty much all diesels as of 2008 onwards have the DPF fitted on them. It's a regulatory standard to meet emission targets.

But, if you do enough miles (e.g. at least 15k/year) I don't see why having a DPF is such a big issue as they will regenerate and clean themselves on longer motorway drives.

What is your reason for wanting a diesel? The lower tax and higher MPG's I would assume?

What about Toyota Avensis last generation (03-09) do they have DPF's?

Also the Ford Mondeo from 07 onwards do they also have DPF's?

Just hear horror stories about DPF's being clogged up and damaging the engine for city mileage drivers.

No problems for company car motorway mileage drivers though.

These cars are as classed as family cars not as company driver cars that are on the motorway most of the time. I don't assume the average family of 2 adults and 3 teenagers go on the motorway everyday.

Honda Civic 2.2 upto 09 didn't have a DPF, so worth checking the Accord if you want a larger car, or CRV if you fancy an SUV?

The 2.0 TDI's aren't actually that bad. I think people don't rate them highly because they compare it to the older 1.9 TDI's which were completely bullet proof.

The 2.0 TDI's are a bit more fragile, so to speak, compared to the older generation of engines but at the same time it performs much better too. Regular maintenance of proper car for the 2.0 TDI's are key to a longer engine life. I've seen many 2.0 TDI's (mostly 140 bhp admittedly) with over 160k.

My current 2.0 TDI has nearly 200k and pulls strong.

Or if you're only doing city miles why not just get a petrol?

Or is this another useless thread where you ask a million and one questions then ignore all answers?
