Help I'm so ANGRY received letter from natwest on 14 June thanking me for my recent letter regarding the fees applied to my account and stating that they were currently considering my claim. Natwest said that given the work involved in assessing my claim they would anticipate that they would be in a position to respond within 6 - 7 weeks. HOW TIMELY considering the new court ruling. Martin or anyone who can help - what should I do next? Edi

It is easy to get paranoid given the conduct not only of banks but all major institutions against the plebs but I think your responses are the just the norm given out by staff
Two articles in Mail which ring true. One about the charges and the forthcoming case ,personally it stinks a bit the agrreement or deal done between OFT and Banks The banks have not previously wanted to go to court and create a precedent and get this spoted. However pressure has obviuosly been brought to bear from on high there must a huge staffing/cost implication to OFT /FO and the Courts from claims
2nd article exposes the " manual" given often to temp staff employed to deal with the infux of claims and ABC of how to delay and put people off. Most of us have expereinced this.
  • Market watchdog the Financial Services Authority (FSA) will allow banks to suspend dealing with any claims for repayment of overdraft charges filed against them until the test case has been decided......

Does that mean you can still claim for other charges, such as charges for unpaid direct debits etc.? Does the suspension of repayments relate specifically to overdraft charges or does it apply to all charges?

    Just a thought.
  • My bank's solicitors agreed to pay me back all I was asking for. I signed and dated the letter the day I got it, 21st July (5 days before this news) and sent it back to them. As this was agreed by both them and me before this latest development, I see no reason why I should not be entitled to my money back.

This has been standard procedure from NatWest and RBS for months and generally everyone who has given them the 6/8 weeks have received an offer of the full amount in the timescale without having to take court action.

You'll need to send off the next letter giving them 14 days or you will start court action or you give them a week until we see how they are going to be dealing with claims now.

I didn't get the standard response from RBS - they just said No and then offered half the money back... no mention of 6/8 weeks.

I'm not sure whether to take the £135.68 offer now or not... I did say I would accept as partial refund but then sent a LBA... is it too late to accept now anyway???? otherwise I could start the mycol stage on Tuesday (payday!)

This person nephasu<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_5878223", true); </SCRIPT> post 1192 - on the RBS tread said she got her full refund two days after starting mycol.

Just wondering what anyone on here thinks?

I have two claims already past the mycol stage - 6th Sept court date for one and the other still waiting but mycol stage ended two months ago... I think Nationwide knew what was coming!

  • Correct me if i'm wrong but I am reading a lot about banks possible charging for accounts but Barclays already charge me a monthly charge for my current account yet if I go outside my limit I can still be stung for up to £90 in charges as well as accounts monthly fee.

Also I noticed on more than one occasion Barclays took money from my account 3 days in a row even though nothing happened in account after 1st overdraft incursion.

Plus I have statements showing charges coming out then days later going back in.

And finally if one charge + letter = £30 why does further charges cost £30 with no letters (Barclays only seem to send one days after you start incurring charges.

    Rant over ;-)

Is this going to work both ways?

That the banks cannot take any more of these charges until a decision is reached!

    I doubt it.

We have had all the claims put on hold, but the banks will still be able to steal more money from us in the meantime.
