  • Ahoy there

Fireside - yep you sometimes have to teach em one step at a time and they still need to learn the hard way!!!!

Eandjsmum - I remember similar conversations - you are not alone!! Irritatingly DS1 had saved money up kept on saying in a condescending voice 'I know YOU can't afford it mother I will buy X,Y,Z' - he has since apolgised and therefore lived! He is now 32 and well aware that the only reason he had money was that I paid for all the basics of life! :rotfl:

Well, I cooked up a bakewell style tart - using blackberry jam (one less jar to move house with) and a cream cheese and spinach filo pastry tart (served with salad so fairly good for me). this will provide puds/ treats for the week and tomorrow's main meal as well. then I have courgettes and half a pepper so a pasta bake calls which will do 2/3 meals (probably one for the freezer tbh)

also did my final bits on registering on Tepilo to sell house! Much cheaper than local estate agents - lets see if they manage to move the house!!! Paid on CC which i intend to stooze at end of Oct to a 24 month int free one and pay off bit by bit! (this card has int free deal ending in Nov for me and I will have paid off all bar £100 of the cash I transferred over! YEA!) :j

Also today in NBI - went for a walk with my friend and walked 9 miles in 2 hours - apparently = 967 cals! Who needs a gym? And it was beautiful and we had a good old chat and we met several friendly doggies! Bought nothing - had coffee in thermos!
4 more chores tomorrow - wish me luck :A
    Nite all!

Oh how I remember DD going off to Uni back in 2003 seems like yesterday, she was going for 6 years and it felt like it would be forever. We managed to fine most of her items from various family members cupboard etc. we just got her a few new items, pink towels, new bedding and fairy lights and she took large plastic boxes to store stuff in. Good luck to your DD.
DD has taken my large plastic collapsible crates, we did buy her new bedding when we got her A level results. We found everything in the house except the passport photos. So yesterday was another NSD today not so lucky has to by milk. went to sm with weeks list and found some YS bargains that I could freeze so won't need to buy them later this week.
  • Re Pots and pans I have been lucky in that a set I was given as a wedding present I still use and I married in 1962.I only have one of the lids left(they seem to go missing during moving house for some reason) but last week I was lucky that my little neighbour was having a turn out and was about to bin a glass lid with a handle.

I asked her did she not use it anymore and she said no she had a mishap with her pan and had burnt a hole clean through it.So I bagged the lid and now have two lids and three saucepans.

I also have two small milk pans that I use for custards etc and a rather nice one complete with lid that I bought in a chazzer this year on holiday that cost me £1.99.

It looked brand new and barely used so I snaffled it quickly. All my pans have copper bottoms and are stainless steel I think they will see me out :).Worth having a look in the chazzers before you buy though. The price of new saucepans are horrendous. I'm not one to bin things unless they are completely useless and still have a Pyrex dish from 1962 that I paid 12/6d for, Lost count of the shepherds pies I have made over the years with that dish.
Glass is a bit cloudy now but still does the job it was bought for :):):)

I think you get attached to kitchen bits and bobs sometimes and if they still work I am loathe to throw them away. I've got my Mums rolling pin which was bought for her in 1935 as a wedding present, still making pies and sausage rolls with it :):):)

Maybe I am just a tight old lady after all :):):)

Today I shall chisel open my purse as I have some essentials to buy,but only the second shop of the month so I'm quite happy with that.Fresh fruit and veg to get and some loo rolls etc.
Tonight is quiz night at the pub, so no cooking for me as we get a supper in with the quiz.
I may make DGS Jack a Victoria sponge cake as I've not made him his favourite for awhile.
Raining already here in north Kent and looks set for the day
    Onwards and upwards chums

  • Hi all, I haven't posted for a while but I thought I would pop in. I hope you are all doing well with NSDs. DH and I were doing really well with savings and I have just worked 13 days in a row to get some extra money together. We had been using up things from the cupboard and freezer for dinner and only essentials were being bought.

All of this hard work just feels wasted now as we went out to the car this morning only to find that someone has vandalised it and several others down the road & it's going to cost a small fortune to fix. I'm glad that we actually have savings to spend on getting it repaired quickly but now it feels like we have regressed massively and I just can't shake this bad mood!

Anyway, I'm off to catch up on previous posts, hope you are all having a better day then I am!

Sorry to hear that Sophie :(

Neighbours here had a similar situation last night, when a number of vans belonging to hard working, not rich, self employed sole traders had their windscreens smashed and some small items taken, which were definitely not worth smashing windscreens for.

Unfortunately something like this happens every couple of months in this small town. We were lucky this time, but on the last occasion, someone cut the catalytic converter off my OH's pick up, and the time before that several motor bikes were taken from another neighbour :(

    Not much consolation I know....
  • Sophie I am sorry for you.

Jackie with regard to the pans Mine are stainless steel and I am upset that I can't fix them. The pans and lids are fine just loose handles and I hate the idea of replacing them, but it will have to be done. I have tracked some down in John Lewis and somewhere I have vouchers for John Lewis.

1 spend today passport photos for uni and buss pass.

Hi, I know you said hubby can't fix them but what's actually wrong with them...maybe we can come up with something?
  • Hiya All

Well needed to pop to L!dil today for loo rolls and forgot - then on my way home from work (7ish) I drove past to see that they were still open! They now open 8am - 10pm! Wow! So in I went - @£1.57 for 4 rolls they are good quality as often buying very cheap on these can be an unpleasant experience:( However, as I walked round, despite feeling hungry and needing me tea I managed to resist temptation - so proud of me little self! :T NBI!!

Sophie - what a horrid thing to happen! These little rotters often justify such actions with 'they can afford it' or 'they've got insurance anyway'! Because of the way I speak and what I do for a living and me having tenants folk assume that I am much better off than I am! It makes me   because all that I have is the result of hard work, thrift, looking after things (my pans are 15 years old btw - cant compete with many of you!) and looking after my money. these little rotters often have no idea of the havoc they cause and do not understand how much insurance costs and what premiums are!

Dont get down mate - get even - you can get back to your level of savings - you know how - one day Karma will get em and you will have your just rewards - having worked for em!! go get it girl!!!!! (and OH :rotfl:)

On wards and upwards shipmates!!! :A
