  • £1.50 spent at a fun day spent the rest of day cleaning DDs room she went to Uni yesterday. Phoned her today she was trying not to cry. There are 10 girls to a flat and only one bathroom and shower. She told me the others had gone out to buy Vodka and she didn't want to join in she doesn't drink a lot and hates being drunk.

Ds has got a part time job today. I think its just til xmas but its his first.

  • Got my quote for the double glazing, which is £2850. Just waiting for them to be made, then get a date for them to be fitted. It is a small independent company. Spoke to a neighbour who had their windows done by a well known company and were charged £8000. The company I picked did two neighbours windows and there have been no problems. Did manage to see the work that was done in one of the flats and was happy with the work.

One of my diy jobs that I wanted done after the windows fitted was done yesterday. Managed to get someone from the Church I go to who is a plumber to do the work. It was just for new taps for the bath and sink in the bathroom and the sink in my bedroom. Charged £170.78 - parts and labour.

Still trying to be careful with the spending. Have managed to use up some of the creams that I have.

Lynplatinum - Wishing you well in selling your place and downsizing.

Thanks I'm leaving her alone today I'm not crying so much now.

Spending today cleaning DS is helping. So house looks much better. No spending today .
  • My gorgeous DGS Ben has gone back yesterday to Uni in Norwich and I'm missing him already. It feels like it will be ages before he is home again for Christmas, but I'm sure it will fly by. His Mum and Dad drove him up yesterday and they are driving back at the moment from there .I have been 'sitting' the three younger boys and we have had a pretty good weekend. Sunday roast beef is cooking as I type and all the veg is prepped ,hopefully we will have dinner about 6ish. NSD today and I have been busy with the washing machine as its been such a beautiful day.DD will get home to an empty linen basket for a change :) I had enough left over from the lasagne last night to freeze a portion for me for mid-week.I have to buy some soap and loo rolls tomorrow but its only a very small shop so I may wait until Tuesday to do it.

Only 10 more days and another month has vanished, time is just rushing by at the moment.Hope you have some luck with your house sale Lynn, its almost 20 years since my OH and I downsized and I've never regretted it Less to clean, smaller bills and a darned sight warmer as well.We had a barn of a place that we rattled around in, and now my cosy little cottage suits me down to the ground.

Right time to sort the boys school uniform out for the morning Have a good evening every one what ever you are doing

  • Hiya all

Many thanks for your good wishes for the house sale - I will keep you all posted - especially as I am trying out Tep!lo - the on line Estate Agent (hangs head in shame for swearing). The EAs round my way are by-en-large a bunch of young, flash, 'cocky' males and females who look down their noses at old fogies like me and would sell their own Grandmother if it made a profit! There are probably exceptions which prove the rule but I have not met them yet!

Jackie O can I come and live with you plse?? Just for a week? No one has made me a full roast dinner for years and years. I have had them 'out' with friends but not a good old home made one! I have no doubt that your DD and SIL and grandkids really appreciate you.

DS1 is not well at moment - he has got a horrendous cold - and is coughing his little lungs up (ok he's 32 but he's still my baby!!) He is athsmatic so it is extra worrying as he often has enough trouble catching his breath anyway - worried here! But his lady is looking after him well (it sounds like) and his dog keeps on cuddling up to him and trying to wash him better - bless him! :)

DS2 is still away from home working and he is still not happy - on phone for an hour today - had to say 'well make your mind up, son'. Being an MIL (tho they are not married) is hard work - trying not to sound too negative :(

NBI today made cake in exchange for garden digging over (I kept half the cake so that will do me for the week) So that saved on two fronts. Painted a window and filled the (wooden) back door ready to paint tomorrow - so that used up paint I already had and saved me paying anyone to do the work!
    Frugalling on!

  • Afternoon everyone!

After our bout of bad luck with our car being vandalised last week it looks as though things are looking up on the money front so I can now breath a huge sigh of relief just in time for our holiday!

I'm currently piled under a huge blanket on the sofa as it is so cold today - I think it might be colder in my flat then it is outside! We have to go to Sainsbobs today to pick up some bits but we will have an armful of coupons in tow for things we need. One thing I'm not looking forward to buying is washing machine cleaner. Ours smells off and the seal is yellowing. I have tried all manner of things including antibac spray, washing up liquid, bicarb and vinegar but nothing seems to do the job. If anyone has any tried and tested methods I'd gladly hear them!
  • Hi Sophie, I find that using only powder and not liquid helps plus I always use vinegar in my final rinse. The vinegar serves three purposes it kills germs, rinses out all of the washing powder and keeps down the limescale.

You also need to do a maintenance was on your hottest wash every few months. I think there is a thread on this. I also wipe out the rubber seal with lemon juice every few weeks. It stops mould growing as does the maintenance wash.

    Evening

Been a while again:D but am glad to say I managed my entire month of The Compact- then went wild in the CS the next day replacing things that had worn out beyond repair. Wild child that I am somehow another pretty scarf sneaked in though how does that happed:eek::rotfl:

This month I've been busy using up foraged goods, fruit and veggies that others have been kind to give me and making sure that not a crumb got wasted during Zero Waste Week.

:xmastree:I know, I know but I am trying to take a much more NBI stance. So far I've bought a bottle of vodka with a view to turning it into Christmas pudding vodka. That's it. Any purchases I do make I would like to do some good for charity rather than line the pockets of a big business.

For my sins I've signed up to do a whole year without buying new clothes [save for undies and exercise gear] which is being run on the make do and mend blog. We set our own rules and in my case that's being extended to not buying stuff from the CS as that's where I buy virtually everything anyway. I'm beginning to come up with ideas of improving bits I already own to make them wearable. Am hoping to learn some more skills and perhaps even find a little of hither to unknown creativity.

  • Hi Shipmates

Made tonight's dinner from leftover veg Very small spend in sm.

DD has found paid work just 2 days though at uni and has applied for a part time job through the uni.

Apart from that we are decorating I have two bookshelves of books to go through and decide what to do with them. I don't want to part with one of the bookshelves as my Dad made it. Many years ago Mum used to work for a DIY chain dad walked in and asked if they had any scrap wood, they did my bookshelf was made from that for free. dad used to be a carpenter.

I also have my credit card bill its high as I put loads of DDs uni bills on it.
