  • Sorry to hear about the vandalism, Sophie.

When I have set backs I find it helps just to read along on these boards for a while. There are other benefits to being OS apart from money in the bank (nice though that is). Today, having read Preparing for Winter V I started my own preps. I now have a list for things I'll need to get in (and will use come spring if winter's kind) and a box with the bits I already had in the house. For some reason, this makes me smile :)

  • Cheers for that, Fireside, no I haven't but there is a B&M near me so I'll give em a go!

Busy today and got loads of chores done - including paying bills :-(

    However, small celebration due!!! :-)

I have made a final payment on a 0% card where I stoozed £2000!!! so over 24 months I have got rid of a debt and deprived the flippin banks of interest YEA! Whooohooo!!!!

Very NBI and a great feeling!!

Am selling home via Tep!lo.com - so far they have been really helpful - tey have a chat facility that is really handy to check out things as you go along rather than having to ring up an estate agent and being unable to get through to the right one etc!! But you pay up front - that has gone on the card - and will be stoozed over onto Bcard 0% deal ASAP!!! Hee Hee - I aint let letting them **** have any of my dosh!!

So celebration but reload! But this will be payable off when house is sold! (Am downsizing!)
All aboard the good ship NBI!!

  • Thank you for all of your kind words, it means a lot. We are going on holiday in a few weeks time, and what with Christmas, another nephew on the way and various other events and bills, this was the last thing we needed!

We also have to do a big shop later which I am trying to convince DH to use our loyalty points for as at least we won't be spending 'real' money. There is an Ald! due to open a few minutes away in November so I am hoping we can find some bargains in there to help trim our food bill. Do any of you shop there? What are your best value finds for essentials?

I hope everyone is having a good week!
  • Hi Sophie I shop at Ald! regularly. We buy most things, the only things I don't buy there are things they don't sell plus I find meat cheaper at the market. We have just kept trying things. The first time we went we only spent about £20 but now we spend about £60 once a month. We just kept adding things to our list each time. One of the biggest bargains is there washing powder. I cannot tell the difference between that and Ar*el and Ald! is half the price. Many of there things are as good quality as the top brands some are even better. I would just advice you just try everything you would normally buy a brand. Most things are around 1/3 cheaper than the big supermarkets.

I put my shop through mysupermarket.com and split the list between Mr S (which I like) and ald! Then I buy whatever's cheaper in ald! and then go to Mr S to pick up the bits I couldn't get. Haven't had any problems with quality.

Hi, I know you said hubby can't fix them but what's actually wrong with them...maybe we can come up with something?

The handles are working loose and this just seems such a silly thing to throw perfectly good saucepans away for. Jackie O is not the only tight old woman on here.

Anyway not quite a no spend day here DD is off to uni tomorrow so had to make sure that she had cash on her as student loan is not due to be paid yet. She did qualify for a grant from a local charity, but I don't know if that's been paid yet.:rotfl::rotfl:
  • Most of north Kent must have heard the creaking of my food budget purse opening this week, only the second time this month :):):).
DGS Ben goes back to Uni on Saturday so one less mouth to think about for DD.I was quite industrious today, got a line of washing out this morning, then bake a nice fruit cake for Ben to take back with him, plus a Victoria sponge cake for DGS Jack. Tomorrow I am making a large lasagne for myself and the three boys for Saturday nights dinner as DD and her OH and Ben are taking Ben back to Norwich to Uni and he is moving into his student house with his g/f and four other lads.DD and her OH are staying overnight in Norwich then driving back on Sunday. So the younger boys and I have a 'Grannie's naughty night'.:) I make them their favourite dinner then we all cuddle up on the sofa and watch tv and eat popcorn. I am looking for a good cheap chocolate tray bake recipe in my cook books tonight as I may knock one of those up as well :) NSD this weekend as I have slammed my purse shut with a mighty clang :):) I also made some delicious leek and tattie soup today as well, winter is approaching and I love HM soups

If they're metal handles you could try using a soldering iron to re-attach them..assuming you own one or know someone who does :)
  • My Dad is very resourceful and a big fan of pop rivets. Someone has used this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rolson-44409-Four-Head-Rivet/dp/B001TOI666/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1442525107&sr=8-6&keywords=pop+rivet+tool to fix a sauce pan handle. Might be worth a go :) .
  • Land Ho me Hearties

Well today NBIed because I took my own lunch (a chicken salad wrap - all HM) while on the road. because I was under time pressure and knew I would be passing a C!sta I promised myself a coffee. I used the points on my C!sta card and only had to pay 45p. :D But, good for my waistline and my wallet - I resisted their cakes - took my coffee out and found a beautiful spot to eat my food; drink my coffee; listen to interesting radio 4 prog for a true 1/2 hour break in my day 'on the road' (teaching in different small villages - about an hour apart). Bliss! :)

This is a new routine for me and it would seem that this would be a good way to wind down the stress levels between students (I teach children excluded from school - where the Special Schools cannot cope with them so they are more emotional hard work than most children - they are usually very bright and used to manipulating adults :rotfl: they get no where with me and give me very little hassle but have to keep on high alert!

As the work is sporadic I dont earn what you might think and then there is the petrol; the prep time and the agency to be paid and that before the tax man has a large bite!!! :(

But thanks to folk on here and :money: I am managing to pay back debts incurred through no fault of my own.
    Thanks to you all :A
Jackie O a cuddly evening with your grandchildren - I dont who is luckier - them or you! :) Enjoy
