pm2326 - when u are busy I think its much harder to be frugal - almost impossible when you've got kids of that age! it s only a temporary blip - you will get back board - and if you had not been being frugal you would have been in a right old mess by now!
what do others think about being busy but frugal? can it be done?
    cheers
    Lyn

This afternoon was brilliant as it was our U3A monthly meeting and the speaker was the amazing Bob Newhart, the American comedian. He was brilliant and considering he was born in 1929 still word-perfect in his routines. Amongst others he he did 'The Driving Instructor and the Walter Raleigh routines.Very funny man, and we all thought he was great.

Wow, bob Newhart! What a treat...
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Whoops - sorry pm2326 (blushing) proves I should not get on here quite so late in the day (v embarrased) hope you can forgive me?!

but my point still holds - I find it impossible to be as frugal as I would like when I m busy how about others? Or do you all have great strategies for such times that you could share?

I think it's harder to be busy and frugal. We pay for convenience and for someone else's time to do the things that we'd normally do for ourselves. Probably strong OS habits formed in the quiet times and organisation would help with this. And here I hang my head in shame ;)

I agree its harder when you're busy. I work full time and I just know if I had more time I could shop around more and cook from scratch more. Love it when I get the chance to do it. A friend who has retired reckons she spends about half of what she did while working! Really makes you think...

  • Ahoy there fellow sailors on the sea of NBI!

Today, for various reasons I found me self @ MK City Centre (It is designed like an American Mall). I pootled round nostagically thinking about all the times I'd been there with my kids; coffees I'd had there with friends and did what I used to when on Income Support - 'the freebees round' i.e.go and nibble at all the tasters - Hotel Choccy; Caroluccinyos;strange 'bubble' thingy; spray of perfume etc. I did not want anything there - nearly tempted by a new espresso machine - then saw the queue and thought better of it! I found myself observing all he tricks of the trade they used to make folk buy stuff! Came away not having spent a penny piece - Halo please! :A :rotfl:

Tomorrow one of my four 'goals' for the day is to make grub that will last me for most of the week - I estimate an hour and half should yield enough for 4 days. Will let you kow how I get on and if it frugals out well (i.e. is worth the time and effort for the amount of savings made!)
Going to bed now as have four goals to achieve tomorrow! Nite :)

  • Morning shipmates

Yesterday was a NSD I made full use of heritage Open days and visited two local attractions for free.

Today is the grand uni pack DD still has a list of stuff she needs to buy. I have suggested she give me the list and we will have a grand treasure hunt. I suspect that we already have most of this anyway. She also tells me that she needs a flannel bag she has seen one for £7, my reply was that I'd already brought one for a scout camp that must be somewhere in her room she could look for that. So today seems to be a battle of I need new stuff from her and my retort of you already have something that is perfectly serviceable.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. I'm off to do the last min washing.

Oh how I remember DD going off to Uni back in 2003 seems like yesterday, she was going for 6 years and it felt like it would be forever. We managed to fine most of her items from various family members cupboard etc. we just got her a few new items, pink towels, new bedding and fairy lights and she took large plastic boxes to store stuff in. Good luck to your DD.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • regarding busy and frugal.... can I add in OH's etc & frugal too!

OH just made cheese on toast for 2 - he used nearly an entire 350g pack of cheese!!! It wasn't as nice because it was soggier due to too much cheese :( and now there's not enough cheese for the week for sandwiches....grrrr.....he just doesn't GET IT.....

    Rant over, thanks for listening......
