  • Hiya

Thanks for your words of encouragement re decluttering Kerry Woman and all of you! Am getting there - paperwork is my next 'get rid of it' zone - so today I got a half bin bag of old study books and paperwork chucked today - I darent put any more in the bag or it will burst. There will be a treat for the bin men come Thursday!

Today cleared a lot of paperwork that needed doing e.g. bills and filing. Also got a 10 page form to fill in for the bank charges reclaim that I am doing!! Blimey - how many times do I sneeze in a day and itch would be a higher level of documentation!!! Took a while! Am determined to get some cash out of them as I was definitely mis sold! So am feeling v virtuous. More a case of sorting out previous NBIs rather than NBI today!!

Jackie O once again an inspirational post - all sorted and ready for the challenge of September. Having been to L1dils today and spent £22 (replacing things like plastic coffee and kitchen rolls and loo rolls!) - I don t think I will need to buy much more next week - apart from fruit and a bit of protein. I was gonna revise my targets back up to £10 for food and cleaning products and £10 for entertainment. But as this IS the start of a new month I am gonna go for £10 for entertainment and £5 for food and cleaning to start this month and see how I go.

So thank you Jackie O for more inspiration!!! :A

I did get on with stuff by the way - little tiddling jobs that usually hang around so decks are clear for painting bathroom on Friday (it wont take me but a day !) While doing ti will start planning for C word - I am not allowed to do that until September!!!)

    So frugalling on folks!

  • Had a visit from my brother who lives overseas. He had left a connector cable behind, which he needed for the rest of his trip and which I couldn't help out with. In true frugal style he bought a replacement in a local Cash Converters for £1.50! And my bit of NBI having seen him off, was asking the Edinburgh Airport tram staff where I could catch the bus back into town. Loving my free bus pass! Tram fare would have been £5 for what I needed.

I've a lovely pair of dark teal summer trousers which must have gone through the wash with a tissue, they were covered in white fibres. I don't know anyone with a tumble dryer, which would have helped get the last of the fibres off. Didn't want to pay to use a dryer at a laundrette. So I experimented by washing them on their own in the machine with several dark green pan scourers. Result! Trousers resurrected and a few more pennies saved.

The padlock on my wallet did get removed to buy some euros as I'm off to France for a short holiday soon.

So agree re the decluttering. It's amazing what you discover that you'd forgotten about!
  • Good morning fellow matelots, still not cracked open my purse yet this month :)I have enough fresh stuff to get me through the coming week-end as well.before I went on holiday I stocked up on UHT milk and crackers (I don't eat bread) and last Sundays haul of fresh fruit and veg is still going strong.

Freezer roulette again tonight I shall have a rummage shortly and see what I can find for tonights dinner I'm thinking something chicken based as I know I have a few bits of clucker in there that were y/s before my hols and frozen.

I have my best friend coming for the day next Monday which I am looking forward to as she is getting married in November to her lovely OH after 20 odd years together.

So we will have, as usual, lots to chinwag about while we knit and crochet.
Bless her she swore she would never repeat her first experience of marriage as her first was pretty rotten for her ,but her partner is such a great guy and he has been spending the past 20 years proving to her that not all chaps are like her first OH.

At 71 she has finally agreed to it and I'm looking forward to the big day.I have known her for over 45 years and we have never had a cross word as we get on like a house on fire as we have similar tastes and outlooks on life.

I can remember when the lights started to go out in the 1970s in the winter of discontent taking casseroles down to her house down the road where we both lived to be finished off in her gas oven as I had electric only in my house :)

She was my childrens child minder when I went back to work in 1973 when times were hard and mortgage rates shot up to 15%.

We have seen lots of good and bad times and always been the best of friends, and I couldn't be more pleased for her:):)She is a lovely lady who deserves nothing but the best.

So new outfits will be discussed no doubt for her big day :) We are also great exponants of spending wisely, she is a great one for finding bargains as well :):):)
Right time for a cuppa and something for breakfast .Probably some cereal with the last banana chopped up over the top
    onwards and upwards chums

Hey Jackie O - how lovely for your friend - it must be something in the air - 2 of my dearest friends have recently found partners - they both so deserve to be happy and I am wishing them and their new partners all the best. your mate's partner must be a wonderful person to wait that long Ahhhhh - just Ahhhh :j

Its also great to have long term friends isn't it! I went to one of the above mentioned friend's places last nite and she is sooooo excited that her new guy is moving in in a couple of weeks (long story - but they were once together and have known each other for years!)

Me- I have been very good - NSD today despite feeling very peckish on the way home I pass (in order) a cake shop; a village store; a cafe by a lake; another village shop; a costa; a deli which does cream teas; another cafe; Te!co; a local shop; a Co-op; a garage; I then park by my local shop;just across from the garage. I also pass 4 really great pubs!! Phew! But I still got home and had a slice of home made and a cuppa!!:j

ERGO an NSD for me! Yea! New financial week for me tomorrow - I have spent nowt for 4 days!!
Wish me well for my £10 entertainment and £5 for foods/cleans for next week! :A Frugaling on!

Finally went to the recycling centre yesterday. I did have an issue about letting something go, but did have the courage to get rid of it. The flat is looking slightly better with things decluttered. Am going to try to keep on top of sorting the flat out.

Updated the list of creams etc that needs to be used up. A few extra creams have been added to the list, but they were free. Am aiming to use up as many of the items this year. This is an area that I need to be strong and not get any more, even if they are free.

Also wrote in a notebook as to what diy work that needs to be done, so that they can be ticked of as and when completed. Still awaiting a quote for the double glazing. Phoned the guy and asked for something extra to be added on. When my Mum and I are happy with the quote we will go ahead with it. It is not a big company.

Mr A opened a superstore in my local town centre yesterday. It opened at 10am and had a very long que. Waited 35 minutes to get into the store. They had a special deal on a television and was informed that they were all sold out within the first half hour of opening. I did not buy one. Just wanted to look around to see where certain food items were. Did manage to get 2 free samples of a spray to clean your glasses and 2 glasses cloths. Gave one to my Mum and they will be used. Also got some free small cakes they were giving out.

    Afternoon everyone

I'm having a dilemma that I'm hoping you can all help with!

In the next few weeks I'll need to replace my work shoes, I'm currently wearing some that cost £15 and while the soles are still in reasonable condition the actual shoes themselves are on the way out.

As part of my move from money waster to careful purchaser I'm trying to replace the cheap with quality whenever something needs replaced.

On this note I've been trying to find a decent pair of leather shoes but too be honest I don't know who's shoes are good these days and who's shoes don't all look like your granny would wear them ...no offence intended to anyone on this board :o

Can you lovely people give me some recommendations please? I appreciate quality is likely to mean cost but I'm prepared for that if the shoes are comfortable and last me more than one season!
  • I suppose it depends what sort of work you do.Is it indoors or out I am a Granny :) and I normally wear Sketchers. In fact I have just replaced my last pair which lasted me nearly 6 years of running around after my grandchildren.
My new ones have cost me just under £47.00 but if these last me another 6 years it will work out at just around £8.00 per year, plus they have 'memory foam inside which means they are like walking on air :):):)

I work in an office but walk around quite a bit and I've never been one for heels either :).

We have to wear 'office attire' at all times so whilst I'd love to wear sketchers, it would get me sacked :rotfl:

 Eeek! My office is a lot more laid-back. Footwear rules are limited to No FlipFlops or Bare Feet - I am NOT making that up.:D

I wear H0tter or Ecc0 black flats because I'm boring and because my foot doctor said no heels above 1 inch and must be lace-ups on account of the orthotics.

Do you have a Brantan0 anywhere near you? They have lots of different brands and may be a place to go try on some stuff and see what suits?

  • I'd recommend Hush Puppies or Clarks (I'm 28!) Hush Puppies especially do some really comfy flats. I used to work in an office and they were great. Really comfortable and smart enough for office wear.
