Jackie O-my lads are very much second handers! Both for clothes and for furniture! They are always rescuing stuff from the bin men! Only DS1's wardrobes are new - I bought them as a moving in present and DS2's washing machine and fridge freezer (again moving in presy from me!!) All other furniture is second hand - tho they have bought new mattresses! Eldest is often asked where he buys his clothes as he is v elegant (used to be a cyber goth) and he always says 'Just this little shop I know!' :-)Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

pm2326 brilliant stuff, you must be so pleased, give yourrself a big pat on th back and a wee treat honey:)
I am so pleased with DGS Ben's choice of young lady, she is delightful and is very good at spotting bargains, and looks after Ben like a little mother hen. They are off to Budapest on the 4th September for a week, her parents 21st birthday treat for her and Ben as well. I have promised to take them to Stanstead so they won't have to pay for the parking and I think her Mum will pick them up hen they come home.
Weather has been awful today, but we went to Ryde and DD and I scoured the chazzersI found a nice white lacy jumper for £2.99 very dressy up as well:) Tessa found a lovely black leather handbag for a fiver for work, and a top she can wear to work and a book and spent £6.50.
Never seen so many charity shops in one place before, they all seem to be vieing for customers as well.Where I live there are only about three and they're not that good.
Not too sure what we are doning tomorrow, depends on the weather. I had a slight mishap when I was on the travelator in the Ryde Co-op, although I was holding on to the rail I slipped and went down with a wallop, very undignified heap on the going down ramp.Bashed my elbow and ricked my back a bit so feeling a bit battered tonight.I maybe weeble-shaped and wobbley but I definitely don't 'bounce back up again:)'
They are very slippery in the wet those things.DGS Henry also went over with a bit of a bang as well, bless him,and he got a nasty graze on his elbow.Couple of old crocks the pair of us:):)
Just going to have a read of my book now
Cheers chums,carry on frugalling

It's payday today and I feel like celebrating......I've just made the final payment on the last of my loans so I'm now debt free (unless you count the mortgage) :j
I couldn't have done it without this thread as I've actually overpaid one of them and managed to pay the loan off 7 years early!
Thank you !
A bit late to the party but at the moment I only have time to play catch-up these days

No spends here at Gnat Bottomed Towers. Enough blackberries picked to make two demijohns of Hobbity Booze [as we call our homemade wine] and Mr GBT has been busy spraying a CS frame that we bought months ago black. He bought a good quality camera last year and has taken some lovely seasonal photos. He's now putting the relevant photos in 4 frames for each season and were going to hang them together in the hall.
I had a small thought. My personal weakness is for acquiring books. Not new [she says although one might have arrived on Monday that I erm ordered before I started The Compact:o] and I have a devil's own job not to buy anymore when I'm in the charity shop even though I have a big pile yet to read:o I did wonder if I took a photo of my offending tower of unread fiction on my phone so I had it when I was out whether that might just stop me in my tracks if it pricked my conscience. It wouldn't be rigid but would perhaps curb the mindless I deserve a treat type purchasing!

Echo the feelings of liberation on clearing a mortgage early, eapecially with the amount of interest you save. Wonderful knowing that no bank or building society can ever hold you to ransom again, especially if nasty something happens like losing your job. That kind of peace of mind is worth making a lot of financial economies for.
Of course there will always be those who can't or won't give up their expensive holidays, meals out, deaigner shoes or labels and who say, if they hit hard times. "Oh you're LUCKY. You don't have a mortgage. LUCK doesn't enter into it, but keep sthumm about it when you've paid it of or there could always be one of the "UNLUCKy" ones tapping you for a loan if they hit hard times! Go for it !0 -
JackieO hope you are OK today and none the worse of your mishap. I was in JL recently and a lady slipped and knocked herself out on the escalator she must have bumped her head as I never seen so much blood. My shoes seem to catch on the last bit as I step off so I try to use a lift instead.0

JackieO I hope you are not in too much pain after your fall, nor is your DGS!
Frugalish entertainment day ahead for DH and me, meerkat cinema outing, to a Picturehouse cinema, so 2 for 1, on top of that the screening is a senior one so there will be free tea. And the Picturehouse has an offer of free whisky and ginger ale for every ticket until 7th September. Cinema cost around £4.50 for the two of us.
All this followed by dinner at a restaurant using a £20 voucher converted from £5 of club card points. I hope DH won't go mad on the side dishes and beer but even if he does I can't imagine it will be more than an extra £20 if he really pushes the boat out (and I will try to gently steer it not too far!).
So a max of £25 spend for 2, movie, drinks and meal out. Can't complain! Will update later on how we do on the restaurant front. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi all,
not a very good nights sleep, but feel better now.Dreadful weather on IoW at the moment, had almost 3 days of heavy rain, slight respite for an hour or two this afternoon. We bought some devine thai dipping sauce at a place called The House of Chillies, and it was also a craft centre and by accident after wandering through the antique section I found a great little wool shop with fabulous wools of various shades. I lashed out and had a treat and spent just under £18.00, but for that I got enough wool to make DGS Henry's Liverpool football club blankey (part of his Christmas pressie),also four big balls to make a throw for my chair in my bedroom in the matching colours that I have been searching for.
Plus a very pretty pale blue to use for my charity blankets that I knit, so although I had a bit of a spend up it came from my 'Happy Stash Cash'
Enough wool tokeep me happy for a month or two.My local knitting shop in Kent doesn't do a great range of colours at all. This place also does online so I have registered and the lady who runs it was so nice and helpful. If anyone is in need of a better range its https://www.tajcrafts.co.uk I'm so pleased to have discovered this hidden gem of a place on a farm in the middle of the countryside:):) Hoping for a wee bit of sun tomorrow,we had our picnic lunch today sitting in the car watching the waves crash on the beach in the rain at Shanklin:), but as is said, tomorrow is another day
Onwards and upwards,
cheers chums
