Morning folks
Today I plan to do nothing but relax, I go back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off.
I've done all the housework, the garden is tidy and weed free, I've no desire to go to shopping, it's very overcast and looks like it's going to rain anytime now so I plan to do some cross stitch and watch DVDs today.
I can't even do any cooking/baking as freezer is full...that said I've had a chicken in the slowcooker overnight so got up this morning to a delicious cooked chicken smellI'm going to strip the carcass and put the bones back in the slowcooker to make some stock.
Oh and I may treat myself to a HM fruit crumble later, but that's a 5 minute job so not really a hardship on my last day off!
Hope you all have a lovely day whatever your plans and the weather is better than it appears to be here!0 -
Forgot to mention, I've decided that as tomorrow is the 1st September it's an ideal opportunity to get back into the NBI mind set 100%.
I personally have let it slip of late and little things (and big things if you consider I bought a bike!) have been tempting me to spend money. This also includes the junk food that's been appearing in my shopping basket.
It all adds up to an empty purse and bigger waist line :rotfl:
I know it's coming up to 'C' time and people will feel it necessary to spend over the next few months but I'm lucky in that I have one person to buy for and we have a limit of £50 maximum so my purse can stay shut for a while yet.
How do you all intend to deal with NBI and 'C' this year??
(If you're wondering why I keep referring to C...I refuse to use the full word until December it's far too early otherwise!)0 -

Not sure if this would work for all families, but my DDs suggested a couple of years ago that we do a secret santa for adults in the family - everyone's names are put in a bowl and we each draw one out, and buy a present (from everyone) for that person (obviously if you draw yourself you have to put it back and redraw). I felt a bit odd about this initially, as it seemed wrong not to buy presents for all my children. However, everyone has really gone for it, and it does mean that we each get one nice present instead of lots of little ones (less clutter). All the kids get presents from everyone as usual, and OH and I decided last year to send a donation to the local food bank instead of buying each other presents
And I can buy nice, thoughtful birthday presents, which are spread throughout the year instead of it happening all at once in a panic!0 -
pm2326 I'm with you honeyI went shopping yesterday and spent £14.00 in Lidleees and £2.90 in Aldeees and that's it for this week.More than enough fresh fruit and salad bits in store plus my existing stores will be used for the foreseeable future this month.
I collect my £60.00 food budget cash from the bank tomorrow and that will go in my seperate little brown purse and that will only creak open as rarely as I can during September:):)
I have just over £9.00 odd in my Happy Stash Cash purse ,but can't think of anything that is needed.:):):)
My regular screw-topped pots for things in September are filled i.e. window cleaner £6.00 gardener £24.00 History £10.00 (we don't start back until 18th) Quiz nights £10.00 (5 x Tuesdays in September) So I'm all sorted for the month
Our local HSBS is closing on the 1st October, and the nearest one will be over 3 miles away. That should curb any reckless spending as well:):)
As for 'C' I too try not to think about it this early, I am making some knitted stuff towards it (hence the two big bags of wool I bought on the IoW.
My oldest friend is getting married on 14th November and I will be going to that so I want to have a new outfit for the 'do'.
As her and her partner have been together 20 years they both have stipulated a donation to the Ellenor Hospice instead of presents which I am quite happy with. It's taken her partner 20 years to get her to say yes:):) and they are such a lovely couple together.
Right onwards and upwards chums may the good ship NBI sail into calmer waters for us all.
My major big spend this year was my MacAirBook which I love, yet I am still typing this on my old cluncker of a machine:):)
Cheers everyone

Lynplatinum - I have been trying to declutter for the last 2 - 3 years, when I feel up to it. I have found it at times stressful. Am hoping to at least do most of it this year. Will also be using up creams etc this year. Trying hard not to bring anything more into the flat and asking myself if I need it etc. It is amazing how much I have in the flat after 17 years of living in it.
Good Luck with your decluttering.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130 -
Hello:j
All going quite well here- one biggish spend on running shoes but as I do it to reduce my anxiety not for fun that comes under the medicine umbrella.
Busy weekend- worked yesterday as usual and have done some extra work for a client today even though I am technically off:o
Finally defrosted and cleaned out the fridge and freezer when I got in from work. I now have a far clearer idea of what I've got in there and there are several more meals made up from leftovers for my son when he gets in late from his part time job than I'd realised. I've made a list of the contents to help me when I do the weekly menu plan this week.
I've been painting my latest Morris Dancing mask in my spare time. I am artistically challenged at the best of times so haven't found it easy to come up with a design. I'd already bought all the stuff before I started The Compact
The decluttering has turned up a wool jumper which I had great plans for turning into a cardi when I bought it from a jumble sale last year. I even got around to buying some pretty ribbon for the edging but that's as far as it got. Am going to give it a whirl and see if it works. Have also remembered that I'm halfway through taking in a skirt that my friend passed over to me so that needs finishing. What with these and the felted scarf I jazzed up last week that should give me some new to me threads for the Autumn:j

Hi all,
We spent a wet bank holiday clearing the loft out. What an awful job that was. Although we have turned up a few forgotten things that are useful and a very large pile that we can eb@y. We have sent so much to charity and the tip, when you look at it it makes me feel so guilty for the waste of money!
We have really decluttered this year, although there is still room for improvement! The house seams much lighter and airy, and is much easier to clean.
So we now have more incentive "not to buy" unnecessarily.
HxWe WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j0 -
And we spent a wet bank holiday having a initial clear out of the garage. Been here 30 years and OH is a bit of a hoarder so it was well overdue. You wouldn't believe the number of half empty dried up paint tins and other bits of rubbish we have earmarked for the tip. Who needs six aerosol cans of ant killer ?:rotfl: We still have to find time to go to the next level but at least we can now find everything and will use up gardening and other products we have in stock rather than going out and buying new stuff simply because it was all hidden away and we didn't know we still had some !
Being decluttered really does mean you can live more efficiently !0 -
Evening
Well I went back at work today  feels like I've never been off I have so much work to do
2nd day in a row that purse has stayed shut, hoping it'll stay that way until at least the weekend with any luck, can't think of anything I need to buy at the minute, fridge/freezer and cupboards well stocked
Have had a lovely bowl of HM chicken soup for tea using some of the bone broth from slowcooker chicken I made on Sunday, added some scraps of chicken, cauliflower and potato that needed using up. still have some left over for tomorrow if I fancy it. If I don't use it I'll freeze the broth for another day.
Think an early night is on the cards for me so take care x0
