Thanks everyone. Looking forward to a no spend weekend, hopefully in the garden with my onions if the rain ever stops.
  • Checking in and still not spending.

This will certainly be a challenge over next couple of weeks, but I am determined to avoid anything that costs and stick to what we have in the cupboards for meals.

I am also having an epic clean/declutter.

    SNAP!!!

Seeing as I couldn't finish cutting the grass yesterday I spent an hour or so clearing out the shed...cleared 2 bags of rubbish out of it.

Today I have my new lawnmower :D but it's rained since I got up :( so I've spent the afternoon cleaning kitchen cupboards and moving stuff around. Emptied bags of oats, flour and sugars into lock & lock boxes etc

The end result is that I'm overwhelmed with the amount of food I have and how much £ is sitting on the shelves waiting to be eaten...it's ridiculous and embarrassing as there's only me and the cat...other women collect shoes and bags, I collect food :o

    BEEN OUT SPENDING TODAY!!!!

Needed to buy some laurel bushes for some screening along with my 2 immediate next door neighbours. Laurels were £20 each and as we needed 21 in total I haggled and got them down to £13 each!!:) Large bale compost were £15.00 haggled them down to £10 as need 3 of those for planting the Laurels.

We also wanted some fruit trees, 4 cooking apples, 1 eating apple. All small dwarf root stock!! Were £20 each got them for £12 each. Haggled them down too!!

As I was doing well with my haggling I decided to go for gold as my husband kept looking at some beautiful mini patio peach and nectarine trees which were £39.00 each. We looked at each other and both said "lets go for it" so got those for £22 each!! :j These were all from an independent garden nursery!!

Next on to Whhyvale!! We wanted to get some of there long black trays, the ones where you can leave the plants in when they are potted up and almost ready to be planted out. We bought some last year when they were on offer and found them so useful!! They had 6 @£7.99 each . They were outside and rather grubby, ok to use but grubby. I asked if they had anymore as they did not look new as they were so grubby. The employee went and looked and came back and said they did not have anymore. So guess what??? I haggled with him for a discount on them and got them for £6 each so 20% off!!

My hubbie and I have spent a fair bit of money this weekend but did well on the haggling so are well happy. We never spend on ourselves and neither the garden really so are chuffed with our purchases today!!!:D

Going back down below deck for a snooze as worn out!!!

    Have a good Easter everyone!!!

    Evening shipmates

Seem to have spent massively this week. Well actually its not me its the kids. money for this and that. Hope that calms down next week as they are both busy revising for exams. I too have spent but on paints so that will stop me going out and spending in the next two weeks as I have some pictures to complete and a load of clearing out to do. I seamed to have stopped doing that lately but I have a box of kitchen stuff, a bag of clothes and a bag of clothes hangers to go. The area to the side of the house needs sorting out and so does the patio. I also hope to get into the garden and start growing a load of veggies. Today our aged plastic water butt finally cracked. We hope to saw it in half and use the bottom half as a planter.

    Hi emslovesmicky

I have thought about getting my glasses from glasses direct but was unsure if to do so or not. Can I ask please if you have had glasses from them before? Do you have to give them your prescription? I am not sure how it all works if I am honest, so any advice would be great. I have had leaflets for a free eye test before. If I have them tested for free can I ask for the prescription and then order from glasses direct? My last reading glasses which where reactalight were over £200 . surely I can do better than that. That was over 3 years ago now so I know I should have new glasses or lenses by now.

I have had them before actually - there was a deal with groupon or something like that for a £50 voucher for £18 a couple of years ago so I got that and got two pairs. You input your prescription into the site after you've signed up, and yes you can ask the opticians, they cannot refuse to give it to you. It's well worth a look, some places are extortionate!

    Hiya all

Edwink - glad little hen is on the mend - what a devoted owner you are! Also well done on your haggling!
eandjsmum - I know kids at that age always seem to need something! Mine are now older but I remember it well! No matter how carefully you plan - they sabotage it - or their school/college does!
Hoiploy - Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Already??? Not sure whether to be horrified or really impressed :)

Anyway - re my great plans - felt really tire this morning so allowed myself to lol around and have a nice long bath and pootle about.

But this eve I felt better and while dinner was cooking (recipe on the MM&M thread - sorry are we allowed to mention other threads?) i managed to turn out 4/9 kitchen cupboards - throwing some stuff out - some needing a wash for the chazzer - some staying where they are till old cupboards come down and new shelf goes up (cupboards are dying and I cant afford new!)

Need to get more done tomorrow and so off to bed once I ve checked one more thread. Heave ho me hearties!
