NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Oh I know that my lot is obscene. But I see a pretty book and I can't resist.
The most annoying thing is, I also search bbc good food and delicious magazines websites for idea
There are a few books that are utterly fantastic and I wouldn't be without. And others that I haven't touched since buying
I'm going to organise a carboot sale shortly. Sadly, I know I won't get more than £1 if I'm lucky per book
Maybe you should try and make at least 1 recipe from each book before selling it on, at least that way you can say you used it, and maybe not feel so bad about it?0 -
. Need to look into yoghurt making I used to have a Lakeland one but it wasn't working so got chucked and I haven't brought a new one.
You could buy/acquire a wide necked vacuum flask.Warm flask .warm milk, stir in starter yogurt put in flask, put lid on .Leave overnight.check consistency, pour into container and chill in fridge.
Cheaper still, make in sturdy bowl ,cover and put in airing cupboard-DO NOT FORGET IT!
Off down south for a week but will come aboard when I get back,if I may please.
I am retiring this year and as I have paid off my mortgage, I have been saving some of my salary and stocking up on craft bits(well lots).Hope to get some rooms decorated as well.
This thread is fascinating and has taken me days to read, especially when I missed the post about the clothes hanger challenge and had to go back-a long way! Will certainly do this and the Konmari principals.
DH sadly died last year so there has been an awful lot of change, and still a few things to be sorted and let go of.He was very tolerant and often amused by all my tat,I now know who is the untidy one(we were married for 42 years,so a lot of amusement)
See you next week

Hiya All
Yep - I am terrible for this - elastic bands/wire ties for bags/too many glasses (for wine and beer!)/clothes one size too small for me!
Have conquered the excess mugs problem (car boot + donations to sons in newish homes) - am now onto the glasses. Last year did some of my clothes on the basis of a) did they need ironing b) did they need hand washing c) they were 2 sizes too small for me (size 14). Unless they were totally favourites out they went! Am now going to go through again and looking for repeat items (more than 7 of each type and I have to make a decision and throw one out!) and those that dont suit me and that I have bought because I thought I ought to look like that!! (yep - I was that sucker!! I wont be pushed around like that anymore!) :j
Talking of being pushed around - last night I looked at some of the debt free wana bees diaries. Wow!!! How the other half live! Blimey - that I should have that kind of income - how did they get into that kinda debt! Phew! Just goes to show that Newton was right and Einstein - everything is relative!! Some are proud of spending 'only' £250 per week on food!! Some folk here are surviving and being very creative with £10 per week!! I dont think they (the pushed around 'must have this /lifestyle aspirations/persuaded by advertising folks) are necessarily any happier tho! But its their choice - I hope they find happiness in it all - its just me that doesnt value possessions! tho some I am quite sentimental about!

Lol I have 19 and think that's too many...I'm trying really hard to use them but I always end up cooking something I find on the Internet :rotfl:
I made the raisin bread (adapted from an online recipe) and although most ingredients were OOD it still rose, however just had a slice toasted for supper and it's not spicy enough for me. It dawned on me I only put in 1.5 tsp mixed spice when should have had 3 tsp in...I'd used a half measuring spoon to fit in the spice jar and forgot I would need 6 of those not 3
Will still get eaten though, put some aside for tomorrow and rest is in freezer.
Books are my weakness too - somehow it's much nicer leafing through books than clicking on links; I wonder if it's just easier on the eyes not staring at a backlight and letting your eyes roam where they want rathe than staring at a screen.
Re: the raisin bread - you could mash a little cinnamon or mixed spice with butter and spread that on a warmed sliceAiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

I have been recommended this thread by a few readers of my DFW diary and from the title it appears to be just what I need. Seems I've got quite a bit of catching up to do so I'm off to start at the beginning but I could be gone a while :rotfl:SPC9 #5070

Happy Easter everyone.
I did a main shop before the weekend so should not have to go near any shops for a week. I've been busy cleaning, polishing and scouring for most of the break so far, tackling things that don't get done often ie: the tops of cupboards whilst balancing on a rickety chair! The amount of dust up there was shocking so now that its done I'm going to keep on top of it instead of just cleaning eye level surfaces (and chose a better chair next time). Also binned/recycled a lot of tat and made some new cat beds out of a large cardboard box. Love hearing updates on Langley the hen Edwink. My cousin keeps silkies and they are such characters ie: if one of them finds something in the grass the rest of them will chase her round and round the garden.
Anyway, no rest for the wicked, need to return to the blitzing of the house (not easy when OH is a bit of a hoarder) and then onto making dinner and maybe some picnic slices.0 -
Hi guys
Have been in the garden all morning as its really sunny and warm :j
I got to play with my new lawnmower and have to say it was worth spending the £45...it's made such a difference to the grass already!
Feeling rather pleased as this is my 3rd day of not spending money and eating from cupboards & freezer. Hoping this will continue for a while although may have to spend £5 on the cat if I can find his catnip treats (they seem to have vanished from supermarkets).
I also managed to strip the bed yesterday and put my warm weather bedding back on, changed from a 13.5 tog to a 4.5 tog and slept much better last night. have managed to get all the winter bedding washed and line dried over last 2 days.
Heating is also off until November now!0 -

Hello Daisychain1
Nice to have you on board with us. We are a very frugal bunch on here so you have certainly come to the right place for advice, cheap supper recipes, a laugh and a telling off if you spend on TAT. Or you might have to walk the plank if you go of the rails with your spending!! :rotfl:Just a little tip for you, only mindful spending allowed or you will have Captain Slowdown to answer to!!
So Daisychain would you like to tell us what your weakness is?. Mine is buying jeans as I love them so much. Some on here have way too many books and some go food shopping even though their cupboards are heaving already.
See you in a month or so if you have decided to start from the very beginning!! :rotfl:
